Cobbleheads in Brownsville, Texas is a medium-sized restaurant serving Mexian, American, and some Italian food. You’d never know from the name or by the menu that they serve Mexican food. I stayed in the Holiday Inn Express in Brownsville which overlooks a small lake from the back of the hotel. Across the small lake you see pretty lights and happy patrons sitting outside enjoying the fresh air and the nice view.
From my hotel it only took me about 5 minutes to walk around the lake, through another hotel’s parking lot and into the establishment. The inside was full of patrons around 5:30 pm. It is lively and hosts both families, couples, and single patrons alike. There is a bar inside and outside. I chose to sit outside as the weather was beautiful.
The kind server/host lead me to my choice of seats outside. I decided to sit in one of the high-top tables right next to the water. There is a stage with bands that play Wednesday through Saturday. This Wednesday night there was a small band who played cover songs and did so, well. It was pleasant and fun and provided a gorgeous atmosphere. The deck is well decorated with streamers and attractive lights. It's perfect for a romantic evening, a night out with friends, a family get together, or a birthday. I saw all four on this particular night.
I ordered a plate of carne asada tacos (4 in the plate) with refried beans. The tacos were attractive, filling, and delicious. They were not greasy but had just enough oil to know that you’re getting authentic carne asada tacos. The beans were also delicious stand alone.
My server Eddie was not only very attentive, he was also friendly and informative. He is an experienced server as evidenced by his speed and professionalism in spite of the busy night.
Overall, I absolutely LOVED Cobbleheads. From the food to the atmosphere to the location, you can’t go wrong dining here. I had forgotten that I was there dining by myself because I had such a great time just sitting back having some tacos over a beautiful view. I would give them 6...
Read moreWell, this place is ok. Yes, good musicians at times. Nice lake patio depend on weather it's hot or cold they have a roof. As far as the food is good, what my mom ordered was I think the Rick it is a beef spinach wrap, with a garden salad. I just ordered a small tortilla soup, which was alright. As far as service was aweful I literally had to get up for my stuff as far as utensils, refills because the waiter or waiters kept bypassing us and would not ask if anything was needed yet we sat with everyone who were being served and I was invisible to them I asked for straws twice it never made it to the table that being said I asked for napkins they never got here the waiter would say sure I'll get you it with anything I'd ask well those 2 items and never got there I waited, waited and waited and yet everyone and their mother was being served and they would constantly pass by me knowing what I needed and they were acting as if they were clueless and not bring it. I got irritated and went inside to get it myself by that time my soda was watered down and the beer was done never came to check on us so I didn't order anything else for that reason it was never to get there. They said short in staff well there were only 4 tables outside including us party of 2 and still 😳 seriously..so finished whatever he came with our food and yes he sees table is wet and still places plates on table on top of the water 😳 then I had to get up for utensils as well. We finished, and I paid and left. Will I come back? I don't know for that kind of service. If that is the point, then I'd get everything myself rather than to be waited on. On my photos, you can see why I needed napkins. The tables were wet. And yet the order came out, and no napkins nor utensils. That...

This was one of the worst meals for my husband and me. One star because it's required, but also because the hostess was lovely. The waiter was a bit rude but maybe just tired. We ordered the fried jalapenos and two sizzler plates. The chiles tasted like nothing but oil. There was no flavor from the breading falling off and refusing to stick, no flavor from the oily, disgusting Colby cheese it was stuffed with, and the jalapenos had zero chile taste. I didn't know it could cook the flavor out of chiles. They would be better off buying frozen poppers and claiming it's theirs. At least with those, you can taste some cheese and chile. The charro beans had a thick layer of bacon grease slick over the top. It was horrendous. I have had lots of charro beans in my time, and I never tasted some as awful as these. It tasted like they tried to flavor them with pace taco seasoning packets. The rice was so overcooked the grains had exploded and were just a mushy mess. The guacamole was fine. The salsa, while not spicy, was ok. Those were the best two items from our meal, which is pathetic. Now, the sizzler. The meat was flavorless, chewy, and tasted old. The plate was NOT hot. At all. We completely lost our appetite when some bell peppers were discovered rotten and still cooked on our plate.
We got maybe halfway into our food and started feeling sick and getting stomach cramps. I don't know who is saying this place cooks decent food, but they're lying or don't know what good food is. We were looking forward to this place. Now we won't ever consider going back, exceedingly how awful and sick we feel from...
