Great people, but poorly executed during a rush....
Saturday morning, around 9:30. When we arrived, there were eight or nine people ahead of us, either waiting for their orders or waiting to order.
The woman at the counter was very nice. We (three of us) placed our order, then waited...and waited... and waited....
My wife and daughter each ordered one of the pastries, while I ordered a toasted bagel. For drinks, we ordered one of their specialty coffees and two cups of tea.
The restaurant needs to add order numbers and/or customer names to their tickets. With lots of customers and a limited menu, it's easy for orders to get mixed up. In our case, my wife ended up taking someone else's order, resulting in a ten-minute difference between her getting "her" food and my daughter getting hers. Even then, her food was cold coming out of the kitchen. Worse, it took another five minutes for my toasted bagel to be ready, meaning we each ate our food separately from the others.
My daughter's specialty coffee was excellent. My wife and I both ordered tea, but the cups of "hot" water were tepid, at best. We tried three different times to get actual hot, steaming water (the kind needed for steeping tea), but it was never really hot.
The food was okay, at best. I believe the pastries were pre-packaged and simply heated up for serving. Neither my wife or my daughter were particularly happy with their selections. As for my toasted bagel with cream cheese, well... what can you say? It was toasted and had a small packet of cream cheese delivered with it...five minutes after the other items...
It was only the second weekend they've been open, so I hope their kitchen develops a "groove" for crowds, but today, it was very slow and, overall, underwhelming. We'll try again in a...
Read moreI traveled to Brunswick, Ohio to visit a coffee shop that was recommended to me, The Grounded Bean. I arrived a little after it opened, there was already a line in the drive-thru. As I entered there was a line at the counter as well. So to say this place is popular is an understatement. The line moved quickly and I placed my coffee & meal order. They had a specialty coffee call “the Reese Egg” , and I was all about that. I then ordered the “build your own Bagel”. The seating options were table, counter or a couch, I always go for a table. It took a little while for my coffee & bagel to come out. When my waitress brought them out she thank me for my patience & explained they were short today. There were only two of them working, but they were doing a great job. Making sure the counter was taken care of as well as the drive-thru. The coffee was simply delicious, the taste absolutely resembling a “Reese Egg”. My bagel sandwich was perfect, toasted to perfection with quality meat & vegetables. I hand a very enjoyable experience here. I got to really enjoy my coffee & bagel sandwich. I absolutely recommend this place if you want a good...
Read moreUpdated - Unfortunately, I have to reduce my rating from 4 to 2 stars. The service has become increasingly inconsistent.
1 - within the last ten visits, received a 16 oz when I ordered a 20 oz. When I brought up that it was a 16 oz cup, the young lady working the window looked at the bottom of the cup and said, "no, it's 20 oz." BTW, there's nothing on the bottom of the cup. Went home and measured it... It was 16 oz of coffee. This then happened to my wife.
So, we started ordering 16 oz only.
2 - within the last 10 visits, ordered a 16 oz only to receive less than 16 oz of coffee. This latest visit only had 10 oz in the cup. Measured it myself.
3 - service has been slow. Which would actually be fine if the orders were consistent.
Coffee still tastes great.
Will come here again.
Decent coffee at a good price. Better than the chains around here.
Baristas were pleasant and friendly. Also, looks great inside.
I was hoping for more beans options (e.g., single origin), but maybe there's not a market around here for the...
