I didn’t want to leave this review because i have had so many great experiences here. But today took the cake. After supporting this place for so long and the fluctuation in their prices from visit to visit we still came and i brought friends and family here. Today after a debate with my husband about coming and convincing him to come again even with the prices increasing we finally came. I ordered the exact same thing that i order every time. Buffalo jollof rice with tilapia and it comes with a little salad. Today it seemed like it was reheated and not fresh at all. The rice was very sticky texture and the fish tasted old. I asked the owner i assume the man that’s always there if they could fix another one for me or just charge me for the rice and salad. Even though the rice was not got i would pick on it and try to eat it. He stated he couldn’t and i had to take it how it was and pay for it or buy a whole new meal but i would have to pay for them both. He insisted that it was fresh but sat in a warmer to stay heated . It was visibly not fresh or not even attempted to make it fresh. The red sauce that’s on it was soaked into the fish which is normally not like that. He went back and forth with me saying i could get a different fish but i had to pay for everything and he wasn’t going to compensate me. The amount of times i have come into this place to give my money and support them this is what they do. I am very disappointed and felt the need to let it be known. This place has went up on their prices numerous of times and they charge differently each time we still stuck it out but this was definitely the final straw. Yes it’s a small business but satisfying the customer is what small businesses need to try to work on more to stay in business. This is not a chain and with that type of mindset you will not prosper. I posted photos but wish i could post the video i took to show the consistency of the food. I will find a way to post the video on...
Read moreIf you're looking for good West African food (Ghana and Nigeria, for example), this is a great place. For many of the dishes, you're choosing your starches (fried rice, beans & rice, fried plantains or yams, fufu) and then a protein (fish, chicken, beef, or beans). Everything we had was great, and the servings were huge! I had heard that it might take a while to get our food, but ours came out to the table in a very reasonable amount of time.
Everything was well seasoned and well cooked. The fried plantains that I had were perfect; just a bit crisp on the outside, but creamy inside. Nothing that anyone in our party had was super spicy (granted, we're all Buffalonians), but some of the sauces were a bit warm, and all were flavorful.
They do have alcoholic drinks, but we just had soft drinks. These were in a refrigerated display, and you can just take what you want, and they'll charge you when you pay. I was really happy to find two kinds of ginger beer and Goya Malto!
Given what I had heard, the staff will help you with learning how to eat the soup and fufu without cutlery, but we didn't run into that situation when we went (I couldn't resist getting the suya kabab). But if you want the authentic experience, I think you can...
Read moreMe and my friends wanted to try something new so we figured based on the reviews yalleys would be perfect! To start we really loved the inside as it had a few tables and a pool table. Our issue came when we went to order and when it came to the food. We informed the staff that we had never eaten African food and that we would need help choosing our dishes. Instead of helping us the staff walked away until he came back to get our order. We were then informed that half the menu wasn’t available. My friend tried to order one of the dishes and was denied it. later that night another couple came in and ordered the same exact thing and was able to receive their food. On top of that I ordered a small dish and was charged for a large, my friend ordered beef with his dish, he got chicken instead of beef and then we were still charged for beef which was an extra 2$. Overall the food was ok, a little disappointing that we couldn’t order what we wanted, didn’t get the expected food, and you only get 2 little pieces of chicken in a 20$ meal. My other friend got the fufu and couldn’t eat the chicken because it was mostly cartilage and bone. I had high hopes for this place as the reviews were good but I’m sad to say I will not...
