This is a unique type of restaurant. They serve chicken... and lots of it. Each person pays a single price (different pricing for children) and you get your choice of the type of chicken you want -- country fried chicken, BBQ-style smoked chicken, fried chicken, etc. (chicken fingers and other choices are available to the kids, who might not appreciate smoked chicken or the other selections). Once you've made your drink selection and choice of chicken, just sit back and wait for the food. The drinks and salad come out pretty quick... and it's all you can eat and drink. A single big bowl of salad is there to share -- family style (not unlike how they do it at The Olive Garden). Finish off the bowl and want more? Not a problem. After that, the chicken and sides show up. The sides are all standards, and they're all you can eat. Green beans (with bacon), mashed potatoes, biscuits, corn, etc. When the chicken comes out, it is a LOT. There were four adults at our table. The ladies ordered the smoked chicken, I ordered the fried chicken, and my friend ordered the chicken fried steak. Obviously, the chicken fried steak comes on its own plate. You can share it if you like, but you'd need to cut it up and dish it out yourself. All the other chicken came on large plates -- and it was enough pieces of chicken to feed us all twice. I'm not sure how they determine the portions... but it's a LOT. Obviously, you can't have to-go boxes for the sides (as those are all you can eat) but you can get to-go boxes for your main chicken meal if you don't finish it (you probably will not, unless you're crazy-hungry). Because all the sides are the same for all orders, and the main course chicken selection is limited to a few selections for everyone, the kitchen will have the food out pretty quick. NONE of our meal seemed to be "made in advance", even though they easily could have just batch-cooked everything cafeteria style. EVERYTHING tasted as if it just came off the stove or out of the oven -- very hot, very fresh, and very tasty. The down-side to this approach is that you can't get picky about the food. For example, if you don't like bacon (and yes -- there are people in this world who do not like bacon) you can't get your green beans or gravy "sans bacon". But since there are plenty of other sides and chicken choices, I don't see that as being a problem.
The chicken we had was SPECTACULAR! I honestly can't remember having had better chicken elsewhere. If I had a Babe's Chicken Dinner House in my area, it would be a frequent spot for us. It was a great meal.
Good atmosphere, clean tables, and friendly staff. Good, quick service, and TOP QUALITY food. Everything was excellent... which explains why there is a line running out the front door of people waiting to get in (we lucked out, in that we arrived just early enough that we didn't have a long wait for a table).
As an added bonus, the music they played was very good. I heard several songs that were familiar, but I didn't recognize the singer. I just assumed the songs were a "cover" version performed by some upcoming star, or one of those American Idol contestants, or something. It wasn't until I heard other customers clap at the end of a song with the singer saying, "Thank you very much" that I realized it was one of the staff members... with a wireless microphone walking around and singing karaoke-style. Wow -- she was good. At no time did I think that I was listening to an amateur singing. Obviously, this little treat is location-specific (and employee-specific)... so don't expect this same thing at the other locations... but it was a nice surprise for us.
Loved this restaurant, and I will plan to visit it again if I'm ever in an area that has a Babe's Chicken...
Read moremust be under new ownership or something, because this used to be my favorite place to eat! and on a budget! the portions used to be huge, but now the place has been drowned with greed.. used to be able to come here and order a meal and a vegetable plate for like $13-$15 and be out the door for $20 with tip included..they also used to pile the plate high with chicken and serve generous portions. this place has gone downhill, BAD.. you can tell they are cutting corners on quality, its steadily gotten worse (its still not bad at all i genuinely enjoy the taste of the food) but you can tell some of the ingredients have gotten cheaper and on the sides its not that noticeable but the meat is noticeably poorer quality.. the quality of food is not my complaint though, its the PRICE.. we ordered a tender plate & a vegetable plate with NO DRINKS.. what should have been a $13 plate & a $7.50 plate.. (what the online menu showed) still more than we used to pay but reasonable with inflation.. we get our receipt and its THIRTY ONE FREAKIN DOLLARS!!! for ONE PLATE & "free" sides.. and thats not even the kicker... they brought us 5 (yes FIVE) tiny little excuses of chicken tenders, that were so small they were mostly batter which was HARD AS A ROCK.. (i have a family of 4) we couldnt even eat half of our single tender each because they were hard as a rock.. so.. i mean its babes right, you go for the sides! they brought us literally 2 spoonfuls in each bowl.. like we could only put 1 spoons worth on 2 plates before asking for more sides then 2 more for the other 2 plates.. and obviously we needed more.. also they used to bring your sides first and you would be through like 3 rounds of sides before your food would even come.. nope not today, they brought us our salad bowls say them down and said "we'll be right back with your food" and came back with our 5 tender stones & our 2 tablespoons of each side.. SECONDS later.. which.. i guess i cant complain about fast service but it is clearly a tactic to keep you from asking for more sides, they want to fill you up and get you out the door.. after asking for more sides 3-4 times and after the first 2 rounds of 2 spoonfuls they turned into single spoonfuls (what on earth is wrong with you people!?!?!?) we left STILL HUNGRY & very upset..
i paid $20 for 5 chicken stones.. and another $11 for an extra plate..
the owners must have died and let their greedy evil children take over, either that or the place was sold to some biggot.. man i remember when the place was good.. this genuinely brings tears to my eyes.:( and my gums are STILL bleeding from the rocks they served as chicken.
this place USED to be great ZERO OUT OF ZERO dont go there!!
also i dont appriciate all the employees standing up front staring at us like we were going to try and flee the scene without paying (i hadnt even complained or anything) that made me not only uncomfortable but also very upset.. im guessing since they raised the prices people have been leaving without paying. (i should have) but i am above that, however i do regret not asking...
Read moreI literally order to go from this Babe’s at least twice a week because I love the smoked chicken. Today my family decided to dine in. As I was in line to check out, there was a couple in front of me and a family behind me waiting to check out. The manager Jen grabs the family from behind me and told them come to the front to check them out. I asked the worker next to me why she would skip me and a couple in front of us to check the family out behind us. The employee ask a manager and she said she thought we were all together, but yet she still skipped us. She said it wasn’t intentional and I would’ve been OK with a simple apology. But instead a nonchalant I’m sorry and she threw her head back like she could not believe that it bothered us that she would take the family in the back and skip me and the family in front of me. I’m a business owner so I understand how things can happen, but I also understand “perception” and that you can NOT have a attitude and act annoyed that two African American families took offense that you had a Caucasian family walk around us in line to check them out. Even if you assumed we were all together, the couple in front of me was waiting too, so why not check them out? The couple in front of me spoke as soon as I spoke because they were looking around wondering what happened. Again… we could have all left not so disappointed… but the way she looked and threw her head back like she couldn’t believe we actually were questioning her actions… I’m disappointed that Babe’s in Burleson allows this kind of nonchalant personality to manage their business. I can take the behavior many ways… but I’m hoping it’s nonchalant and not racial! It’s disappointing because I eat there so much and one bad employee makes me not to want to patronize… they did hire her so…. I sincerely hope she does better! I will not be ordering or eating here...
