Food was great but we went with a large group that was broken down into 2 long tables and two five seater tables. The meal was served "family style". Our meals were ordered far in advance but weren't ready when we arrived. So we waited about 20 minutes for the salad, just to realize there wasn't nearly enough for the whole table, so some guests at the long tables had to wait another 15 mins for the salad. The waiter suggested we "barter" with the other tables for our salads instead of bringing two salads for the long tables. Luckily, I had asked the waitress for more salad prior to his refusal and she had put in an order for us. It turns out they were serving every table enough for 8 people and expected the guest to get up and hope to get their portion from the smaller tables. It made no sense and I guess they saved their chefs from having to portion for two 5 person tables and two 12 person tables but it made it extremely uncomfortable to have to survey other tables to see if there was food left and then serve the four people at the long tables. It was such a disaster I would never go back, even though the food was great. They could have, and did, seat us however they liked, there is no exercise for leaving eight guests scouring for their portions that they should be served. Their poor planning and execution along with failing to understand how ridiculous it is to expect guests to share food across tables, especially since the ones not served were crammed together on a huge table, ruined a decent meal. They never made any announcement that some tables were served extra portions and expected to share with the other tables that had been underserved. They waited until we ran out of food and requested more to explain. The service was horrid. And, don't forget, we waited about 45 mins to get our food even though everything was booked months in advance. What is the point of booking in advance? They shouldn't accept parties that they can't serve properly and they should be prepared if they do. First and hopefully only time a third of my table is left to steal food off of another table simply to get the meals they ordered months in advance. Just no excuse for how poorly they prepared. Each table should receive the food...
Read moreI'm a huge fan of American Flatbread. I've been multiple times with my fiancée and taken countless friends to eat here. First off, they have a strong selection of specialty pizzas which are all delectable (I cannot speak for their buffalo because that is not pizza in my opinion and I never tried it). It is not a broad selection, but it is evident by how good each is that a great deal of thought was put into each one. Second, if you don't like any of those, they have rotating specials which change often, so the possibility of trying something new is still there. Third, if you don't want those there is still the option to make your own which is great. American Flatbread sources many if not all ingredients from local farms across Vermont and even went so far as to have a big map in the restaurant where they marked the farms and what they source from each which shows how much they care about sourcing locally. Probably the coolest thing is their clay pizza oven which they keep in the restaurant for all their customers to see. Cooking their pies in that oven leaves a delicious smokey flavor and charcoal under side which makes the pizza's even better. They are flatbreads so don't expect one to satisfy multiple people; in my experience 1 large is sufficient for 1 hungry individual, 2 for 2 people, 3 for 3-4 people and so on. Finally, American Flatbread has an extensive beer selection and suggestions for different beer and pizza pairings. They also brew their own beer which is interesting; a quick stop by the restrooms lets you look into their brewing facility, but don't worry, there is a glass window in the way. For those of you who enjoy trying multiple beers, they do have have pours as well. Sandwiched in the heart of Burlington, Vermont, American Flatbread is a must see destination for any...
Read moreMy wife and I celebrated Mardi Gras at American Flatbread Burlington for a date night, and it was a fantastic first-time experience. The moment we stepped in, we were welcomed by a cozy and rustic ambiance, with warm lighting and the inviting aroma of wood-fired flatbreads filling the space. The lively energy of the night was enhanced by the live music, which added a festive touch without being too overpowering for conversation.
Our server, Maelle R., was attentive and friendly, ensuring we had a great experience from start to finish. For our appetizer, we shared a salad featuring Roasted Pitchfork Farm beets, Maplebrook Farm Feta, roasted pepitas, chipotle crème fraiche, and red wine vinaigrette ... a perfect balance of earthy, creamy, and tangy flavors.
For the main course, we chose a special from the Mardi Gras night menu, the large "Veggie Special." This flatbread was topped with sliced potatoes, pickled red onions, baby spinach, roasted garlic, and Grafton 1-Year Cheddar. The combination of flavors was both unique and satisfying, with the sharpness of the cheddar complementing the sweetness of the onions and the heartiness of the potatoes.
To pair with our meal, my wife enjoyed a glass of Velvet Underground, while I had a Pinot Noir. Both drinks elevated the dining experience, complementing the flavors of our food beautifully.
To end the night on a sweet note, we shared a warm Apple Crisp with vanilla ice cream. The crispness of the apples, combined with the buttery crumble and creamy ice cream, made for the perfect comforting dessert.
Overall, our first visit to American Flatbread Burlington was a memorable one, thanks to the welcoming ambiance, great service, delicious food, and lively Mardi Gras atmosphere. We’ll...
