Fabulous meal overall. Delighted by the food, service and ambiance! Had dinner with my bride here mid October. Covid still going strong, we have been hesitant to eat inside. Felt comfortable here. A little too cold to eat outside (although some did) (why aren't there more gas heaters in use up here? ). Really appreciate how they have set the tables up in the bar... spaced pretty far apart and running them parallel to the bar (no stools at bar, just takes for two turned sideways). Provides a different vibe having the bar on one side of you but we liked it. Bride had the filet- cooked perfectly. Came to table hot, as it should. She loved everything but especially appreciated the demiglas (sp?). l had the diver scallops with risotto... oh wow! Scallops cooked perfectly as well. Food came out piping hot. The risotto was the star of this dish though... if I could lick the plate I would have. I will remember that meal for a long time! We also had bread with a great butter (had salt sprinkled on it... nice). I ordered an Allagash White - one of my faves. $7 seemed a little high for it. Bill came to $80, tipped $20. Prices are not cheap here, but I am happy to pay for such a great meal. Service was great as well. Man and woman behind the bar gave us the right amount of attention, filled our water glasses, etc. Good conversation with them. About the only negative for us was the seats or stools we sat in. They were not the most comfortable. If we were to return to the area this would be a must stop to revisit. Highly recommend! 5 🌟!!!

We chose E.B. Strong’s to celebrate my wife’s birthday, and it was the perfect spot for a special occasion dinner. Nestled right on Church Street, the restaurant offers an upscale, relaxed atmosphere that feels like an escape from the rougher edges of downtown just a few blocks away. To start, we enjoyed a beautifully balanced maple old fashioned—a nod to Vermont’s local flavor and a great way to ease into the evening. For appetizers, the tartare was outstanding: tenderloin finely chopped and elevated by truffle salt, quail egg, and crispy fried wonton. The PEI mussels were another standout, served in a decadent chorizo cream sauce with sweet corn and leeks—perfect for soaking up with the grilled baguette. For mains, we tried the Chef’s Surf & Turf, which combined a perfectly cooked petit filet with a succulent lobster tail, buttery mashed potatoes, and creamed spinach—all tied together with a rich Béarnaise sauce. The coffee-spiced, pan-seared venison (a nightly special) was both creative and expertly prepared, with deep, complex flavors that made it truly memorable. We wrapped up with a cheesecake in a jar, topped with blueberries—simple, creamy, and satisfying. While the service was a bit slow, it was still professional and courteous. Overall, this is one of the few places in the region that truly delivers a fine dining experience. Yes, it’s pricey—but for a meaningful night out, E.B. Strong’s is absolutely worth it.

The service was super friendly, and she completely spoiled my husband. He had ordered a Manhattan with a 'big cube' but was totally fine with the ice, but she INSISTED on swapping it out. We also appreciated how knowledgeable she was not only about the menu, but also to 'talk steak' and Kansas City with my husband. The wine recommendation was spot. on. and I appreciated the back story to it!! The food, gosh, where to begin? The calamari was light and not greasy at all, the tomato tapenade was the perfect dip for it, so yummy. My 'oscar filet' absolutely stole the show....not only did the chef deftly cook it to a medium without overdoing it, the MOUND of crab and lobster on top was a perfect compliment. The freshly mashed potatoes were perfectly nuanced with garlic and the hollandaise perfectly complimented the broccolini without overwhelming it. My husband ordered the creamed spinach, so good. the spinach was wilted but not slimy..it supported the perfect touch of cream sauce well. We barely had room for dessert, but that did not stop us from splitting the mud pie. the mix of caramel and fudge was a delight and the ice cream 'filled in all the cracks' nicely! Thank you for providing three hours of escape and celebration!

I took my hubby out for his birthday dinner here on his request. We love to eat out, and found we had never heard of this restaurant and decided to give it a go. The experience was lovely. We arrived and found the staff very welcoming. Clearly the owners put high emphisis on presentation , which was awesome. Our private , perfectly lit little corner table on a sparkling snowy night was very nice. After being offered a couple of wine samplings I found the perfect one and we proceeded to be served in the most professional way 😊 Again i was smiling at the perfect trained staff, from the young man with warm bread and ample butter (seldom do you get enough butter to suit me in a restaurant) sprinkled with salt , to the freshly cracked pepper offered throughout the meal. I found it odd that there was no salt on the tables, as a few times throughout the meal I would have liked it. We had the Escargot . It was fine. It really needed some salt we found. Somewhat bland, but onward.... For our meal I had the scallops and mushroom risotto.... wonderfully prepared, here is where I could have used the salt again. I asked for lemon, and that did the trick. My hubby had the filet with the lobster tail and bernaise..he loved it! The sweet spot was the waitress bringing my hubby a nice big slice of chocolate kaluah cake and ice cream without being asked. Very Sweet touch. Ended the night perfectly. Overall a great time and worth the money spent. Thank You for a special dining...

We were visiting Vermont last week to check out some colleges for my 17 year old son and decided to treat ourselves to a nice dinner out. This was a Wednesday evening, and although it is a touristy type of town, it was not a busy Friday or Saturday night and we did make reservations for 7:00 p.m. We were seated promptly.

The service was so-so, meaning that the servers were all very friendly, but my son waited on a refill for over half an hour. It took about 2 hours for our food to come out, which we didn't terribly mind because we were having nice conversation and enjoying the atmosphere, but that's still waaaay too long to wait for food.

I should say that the salads came out on time, but it was the main entrees that took an exorbitant amount of time. When main course did arrive, we were sad to find that all of the dishes had different temperatures.

The creamed corn was piping hot, but the mashed potatoes and even our steaks were less than warm. They were actually cooked to our liking, and they tasted fine. We weren't about to send anything back and wait longer for food at that point! We did opt not to get dessert.

We ordered a Coke, a Sprite, two vodka cranberries, two caprese salads, 14oz. Ribeye, a New York Strip, a Filet, fingerling potatoes (a bit too crispy), creamed corn, mashed potatoes. The bill was just under $300 & I would not recommend going to this place based on the wait time and inconsistent food temperatures. My real rating would be 2 and...
