Antonelli's Deli — Restaurant in California

Just as a disclaimer, I'm from LA, which has an Italian deli that is pretty hard to beat (cavarettas).

So, with that as a baseline, here is my review:

First, my only gripe: they should offer the spicier variants of their cold cuts, and some dry coppa/sopressata would be a welcome addition.

Also, be forewarned that these sandwiches are very "wide". So 4" should be enough for anyone. 8" can feed two easily. The bread is indeed very fresh and light, as well as filling. High marks for that.

My fault is not ordering mine with mustard. I'm glad mayo is not on by default, but some mustard would have been a vast improvement. Again though, that one is on me.

The restaurant itself is very clean, and very well run. The crew is very quick, especially considering the volume they go through. We hit a lunch rush, which slowed them up a bit, but they still had us out the door inside 20 minutes.

The Canolis are top grade. Would recommend as a must if you go here. The chocolate covered ones. Very well made. Don't know if it is home-made or just assembled, but I don't care either way. Very very good.

Update 3/8/24:

Decided to try their BLT again after over a year since my last visit. They should call it a lettuce sandwich. I ordered extra bacon — which cost $4 — and look at the photo of what I got. I guess the joke’s on me for wanting to give them another try. And the staff STILL look like they don’t want to work here. Don’t waste your money here. Freaking rip off.

I've only tried the double-decker BLT and it's decent, but they're really stingy with the bacon. There was more lettuce than bacon. When I ordered today I even asked for DOUBLE bacon, and there was still hardly any bacon. This is ridiculous to me, especially since I was charged for double bacon. The girl who took my order over the phone and helped me when I picked up my order wasn't very friendly at all and did not look like she wanted to be there. At least what bacon there was, wasn't overly crispy and tasted good. The potato salad is good, and so is the squaw bread. I placed an order for 2 breakfast sandwiches online and paid for extra meat and avocado on both. My husband picked them up and they didn't have either of the extras we paid for. I called them to let them know and they refused to give me my money back even though I assured the manager that they DID NOT have the extra meat on them. He said he asked the employee who prepared them and that she assured she did add the extra meat, but forgot to add avocado. I offered to send him a picture of the sandwich and he refused, he instead said that they could not refund me the money for the extra meat since it's very expensive and the lady said she did add it to the sandwiches. We've been going there to puchase sandwiches for years and usually my husband orders them with extra meat, so we know well how they're supposed to look when they are prepared correctly. What a shame that they did not honor that and refused to give us our money back, and basically call us liars. Food is very good, but service was very poor. Make sure to check your orders well before you leave, because they will not believe you even if you have proof that...
