We were visiting home (California) because we live in Colorado now. I know a lot of great Mexican restaurants in the Bay, but we were staying with my family in EDH. Previously, I didnāt know of any really good Mexican places north of Sacramento. Just some background, I grew up and am from the mission district of San Francisco, California. I have also worked in many Mexican/ Latin kitchens. So I know good Mexican food when I taste it. Anyway, the Mr. asked me to bring back some tacos. I hade no idea EDH had a hidden gem! All I did was a quick google search for āThe Best Tacos in El Dorado Hillsā. This place is definitely it! I gave 5 stars for atmosphere because the place felt welcoming. If that makes any sense. Like I walked in the door and despite me actually looking for tacos, this was bright, airy and had a welcoming feel. Like had the Mr. been with me, we would have totally eaten there. The place was clean. No flies. The Salsa station was a little disorganized, but thatās to be expected. The guy behind the counter who took my order was friendly and I found that heās from the city as well. I mentioned if I still lived in California I probably would have applied to work in their kitchen. š š¤·š»āāļøā„ļø š®. Service was great and the food was fresh and delicious!! I should have taken more of the pickled carrots and jalapeƱos. No matter, I make it at home for the Mr. I wish I had taken photos but we were so hungry, it was gobbled up almost as fast as I walked in the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis was by far the worst mexican food I've ever had.
Let me explain. I arrive and walk up to the counter to place my order which went smooth, went to get salsa from the salsa bar and it was disgusting, the avocado salsa was oxidizing and turning brown, there was cross contamination and it was dirty. My order was called, burrito (the jumbo) which, is just a super but with the addition of lettuce and tomatoes. The wrapping was cool despite what was inside. I ordered carne asada as the protein, what I got was whatever left over beef was on the bottom of the pan after they cooked the main strips of beef. It was terrible. Small lentil sized peices of severly overcooked beef, some to the point where it was just a chunk of carbon which was fun to bite Into. The lettuce was old and wilted, not from heat but from sitting. It had a terrible taste. I got about half way through thinking maybe it gets better? It didn't, I threw the rest of my burrito away and after about an hour I went to the bathroom and threw the rest of it up against my will. I'm assuming the food practices here are lacking which explains the violent food poisoning. I will be reaching out to have an inspection done on this place. This was my first and Last time there....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy order was wrong, I paid for crispy shell tacos, but received those little tacos with the double soft corn shells, the staff would not correct the issue. 20$ is a lot to pay for 2 tacos, beans, and rice, so I expected a good meal. That is not what I recieved. Though I do like guacamole and sour cream, they were the majority of what was on the plate, most likely to hide the fact that the carnitas were so salty they were inedible, I do not understand how anyone could serve something so bad, like the top must have fallen off of the salt shaker while seasoning the meat, and the "cook" just stirred it in. The lady at register was cold and rude, though another waitress did seem friendly to another customer doing pickup. I should have known to go elsewhere when I was the only person dining in. I seriously considered dumping my plate on the floor and walking out, but decided to write a review warning others to avoid this dump at all costs instead. I strongly recommend avoiding this place, REALLY! DON'T GO THERE! Anything from the Taco Bell next door would be a huge step up from the meal I received. Unfortunately I had put in a tip at the register when paying as I ordered my meal, that will be the last of my hard earned dollars this place...
