Great Breakfast, Great Service and I LOVED the Holstein theme.
Just passing through town on our way home from an appointment in Sonora and decided to stop in for a late breakfast around 11am. We were greeted before the door closed behind us and offered to take a seat anywhere we liked. We were followed to our seats of choice, given menus, offered coffee / water and asked if we had any questions regarding the Day’s Blue Plate specials. The coffee was brought fresh, hot and it must be said that the mug was never under ½ full thanks to the staff who buzzed by often. The delicious mango tea was served in a huge glass which I was able to get down to ½ full before a waitress came, ran off with my glass and brought it back full. Our waitress was so patient with us, made plenty of recommendations but the entire menu is favorite comfort foods so it was very hard to choose. I ordered the 2 eggs with chicken fried steak with the Ranch potatoes and a biscuit and hubby ordered #3 eggs and Ham with a side biscuit and gravy.
Due to the scratch made methodology of the awesome comfort foods offered, it did take a little bit to get our meals but it was worth the wait and then some. My biggest issue with small eateries is the clutter – well more to the dust and grime that collects on said clutter. I could find NOTHING – NOTHING AT ALL. The ceiling fan blades were CLEAN, the air intake in the dining room was CLEAN, the faux flowers were clean, the signs, the clutter, everywhere I looked was spotless. I have never seen such a CLEAN place. The table was clean as in no sticky grime residue like a lot of places, the silverware had no water spots, and the floor was spotless. We watched as the table next to us, a 6top, left, the greeter ran over, cleared the table, washed the table top down, dried it and then came back with the electric carpet sweeper and he apologized for the noise. I was really looking, it is my pet peeve about restaurant clutter that collects grime and cobwebs, to the point of OCD levels. I watch too much Robert Irvine and Gordon Ramsey restaurant shows I think. The atmosphere is laid back and the clutter was not overdone. My favorite item was the Holstein Cow print Sword Fish. Very unique.
Thin, crispy breaded Chicken Fried Steak, that cracked when I cut into it with my fork, was tender and just melted in my mouth. My eggs to order were perfectly scrambled, not some lackluster omelette that was cut up, but truly scrambled eggs that were light and fluffy. The Ranch Potatoes were seasoned very well, tender and cooked perfectly. The gravy – the GRAVY of the old way – real country fried gravy that comes from cast iron skillets and bacon drippings – the GRAVY that you know is bad for you but OH SOOOOOOOOOO GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD! – Yea, that GRAVY is lovingly ladled onto the plate and the star of the meal, Chicken Fried Steak is gently nestled on top and never hidden. No charge for a side of gravy or a biscuit instead of toast or a stack of cakes. Yes, this Chicken fried Steak meal had a choice of cakes or toast. Perfect portions. The Scrambled eggs with Ham were delicious too. Light and Fluffy scrambled eggs with chunks of fresh Ham off the bone (not luncheon sandwich meat like lots of places) served with a biscuit and gravy. Another great offering made with loving hands of comfort food experts. Nothing microwaved, no canned gravy, no...
Read moreOh no where to begin it was Labor Day and we had spent all day in the Stanislaus national forest and we were really Jones in for a milkshake and I’m in a coming out of the forest there’s not any place except to be looked up where can we get the best milkshake and will can we get the best breakfast and this café came up as a option with some good reviews it also mentioned cows and waitresses which I found intriguing but really let’s talk about the food I am the best The biscuits and gravy were really really good I think honestly the best biscuits and gravy I’ve ever had and I had them with the sausage rice which is good and the country fries which are also very good home and then the chocolate shake now this chocolate shake was hand shook him and we met the guy who made the chocolate shake and he asked us how it was and we said good because it was very good him but keep in mind if you’re ordering one shake you’re really going to get two shakes because it comes with a lot of extra shake so you’ll be well shook we saw the price of the shake by 50 for one shake and thought that’s a premium shake but it was worth every penny for the shake because he got one and a half out our second criteria for diners is the deck right now let’s talk about the decor am I was intrigued because as I said they Google reviews mentioned cows and I thought home they can’t fit a cow in here but then we got in there and there were indeed a lot of cows I like a lot of cows news if you don’t like ours then you probably want the decor yeah but if you have a spot phobia don’t come in here because there’s a lot of spotted cows now let’s talk about the clientele plan to mostly families good clientele and get the clientele five out of five stars there was one patron though who wore an eyepatch yeah and that brought the quality of the clientele down a little bit there’s still five stars and lastly. And lastly let’s talk about the service and it was very busy because again it was Labor Day and I am Jamestown which is a really cute town and seem to not have any places open so you might need to wait a bit but there’s some good quality entertainment while you wait like reading the local newspaper a lot of good facts for factual news I appreciate him service was great and I’ll be refilled or coffee a lot and give us a :-) on our check yeah I get the service five out of five stars good good people and good good to know is that they don’t take credit cards only cash or check so make sure you bring your...
Read moreI'd say 4.5 stars but not an option so I did 5 stars because this place was very unique. Not hard to say that this place was a very quirky cow themed restaurant. I wish I had taken pictures but didn't. We went on a Monday morning and the place was packed. The menu had some unique options. I had a cream cheese stuffed sour dough french toast and I think it was with nuts and apple (maybe strawberry.. Can't recall). I was stuck between a savory and sweet breakfast so this hit the spot, with the sour dough it made it not very sweet. Now for my critique, I know this place was busy but we did feel guilty or a feeling of being very inconvenient for the waitresses(not that they were necessarily rude per say) for asking for things as you would expect to be able to do if you are spending the money to dine in. It kinda felt like a get in/get out kinda vibe but undertsandable I guess with how busy they were. The second thing is that their tap water was horrid. I know that's something thats free anyways but we were thirsty for water and couldn't stand the taste of it. We had to just leave it on the table. I don't know if maybe they have old pipes or just the local water is bad but it was disgusting. And at last I know most people don't care but with the times we live in now, I would love to see more vegetarian and vegan options on the menu. There are many vegheads out there going out to eat with their familys ans would love to have an alternative to eat with the rest of their family and enjoy their diet that is very common now, and I believe...
