Pay attention to the bad reviews if you are going there, and note no Manager or anyone ever apologizes to these customers.. In short, I was EXTREMELY underwhelmed especially for about $120/person. My taste buds were screaming for some kind of flavor, any flavor. The absolute only thing that exhibited flavor was the very very eensy bit of smoked bit of Bleu cheese placed on the meat! I ordered the blackberry glazed filet and was LITERALLY presented with 3 half pieces of blackberries as a garnish. I couldn't taste a molecule of blackberry in the sauce. I'm paying $52 and I get 1 1/2 blackberries? I had been intrigued by the roasted grapes mentioned in the menu and was given a bunch of grapes still attached to the stem/branch. I asked the waiter about it and he was more than happy to lie to me by stating that they only roast them for a second or two. The grapes were refrigerator cold, I've had warmer grapes from a salad bar and at least they took the grapes off the stems! I also ordered the cheese bread appetizer, I swear the menu had the wrong price. I would never agree to spend $20 for bread. If you do order this be warned it's drizzled with copious amounts of balsamic drizzle and it was disgusting. Every item presented had zero seasoning. If you don't season a steak before cooking, you will never properly flavor it. An ACTUAL chef can tell the doneness of a steak by pressing on it, not this "chef", he or she instead just cuts a gigantic gouge into it. It made for an ugly presentation. As for dessert, I was given a plate that came from the freezer. I think the cake was too. It was not good at all. They were extremely stingy with the fruit coulis too. These type of chain restaurants will cut corners anywhere they can to ensure profit over quality.. As for the coffee, I used to order illy brand at a restaurant all the time and it was so good. At Willard Hicks however, this brand of coffee was obviously over extracted and produced the worst cup of espresso/milk drink I have ever had, it left a sour and burnt taste in my mouth I could not even rinse out and lasted a very long time. I was so desperate to eat something that tasted good, I went down to Ice splash for some excellent frozen yogurt and fresh fruit, thank goodness for them, finally something with...
Read moreMy wife and I had an appointment in Campbell, and we were looking for a place to have a late lunch. We chanced upon the establishment beside Willard Hicks, but they had just closed for the afternoon. Fortunately Willard Hicks remains open throughout the day, so we decided to go in; we were already hungry. Upon entering, you get this old world vibe, the interior was cozy, the tall windows made it bright yet the atmosphere was relaxed; perfect for that late lunch or early dinner. To make a long story short, the service was good, and the food was great. My wife ordered the Ahi Poke Bowl, and I got the Now This Is A Steak Burger (yup, that’s the name on the menu). It’s a one pound beef patty with arugula, crispy onions, and bacon; but what sets it apart from other restaurant burgers is the addition of lightly roasted bell peppers instead of the usual slices of tomatoes. The massive burger comes with huge house cut fries, and small servings of ketchup and aioli on the side; perfect complement to the meal. I didn’t attempt to eat the burger by hand because I knew I would make a mess. I know, some of you burger purists may be rolling your eyes, but it was just as well. After all, it was “steak burger.” With knife and fork in hand, I dug in and it was burger bliss. I’m always on the lookout for great burgers, and I may have just found a new list topper! The poke bowl was scrumptious, that well-balanced umami freshness perks you up with each nibble. Although we didn’t order drinks, I think a nice, cold dark beer would go well with the burger; and for the poke bowl a nice riesling or a gewurztraminer perhaps. I look forward to our next visit. The menu items are varied and the preparations look quite inviting. Parking is easy during early afternoon hours. There’s both street parking and a free parking building nearby. This should be the case for all commercial areas, make it easy for customers to come and park free! Pretty sure this makes any area attractive to people. Lots of shops along Campbell Ave., nice to take a short walk after a great meal. I will likely update this to five stars when we come back and try the...
Read moreI took wifey here for our anniversary. When I made our reservations the person asked if it was for a special occasion? I said yes for our anniversary and I would like a booth please. When we arrived we were sat at a booth right away. And greeted by our waiter. Our waiter was friendly, had a positive attitude and made some great recommendations. He also was in no way pushing and allowed us to have an enjoyable evening. I ordered the filet mignon, now normally I order Med rare, I told the waiter exactly how I like it and he said that’s actually medium. I told him that I would get it medium as he suggested but if it’s not warm pink in the middle then I would send it back. “When the steak arrived I cut into it and low and behold IT WAS PERFECT!! I was also torn between getting the mashed potatoes and the stuffed baked potato he looked at me and said trust me get stuffed baked potato so I’d did. Let me tell you that was the best backed potato I have ever had! We also got a seared Ahi appetizer that was just out of this world good!! Wifey ordered the some kind of braised short rib in pasta. I tried the pasta and it was also amazing. For dessert wifey ordered the Key lime pie which was lacking in flavor, was very underwhelming, I ordered the warm chocolate chip cookies with ice cream. The ice cream was good but the cookies were warmed up old stale cookies that were hard as a rock!! I told the waiter about my cookies, he asked me why I didn’t tell him about them instead of having the busboy pick them up? I told him because he was nowhere to be found. He did offer me another dessert but I refused. Overall it was a very pleasant experience however I do believe that the waiter should have not changed me for that terrible desert and at the very least comped us one of our 2 desserts we ordered as it was our anniversary and they knew this., why else would you ask. Bottom I will be back and I will update my review if things are better next time. IMO Willard Hicks should get another chance as for the most part it was a...
