Hog Fathers in Canonsburg is good but not quite great; if you are looking for a decent place to grab some barbecue in the local area though, it will definitely satisfy. Their brisket is sliced very thinly, but it has a nice fat content and succulence (albeit being just a bit tough). Both their sausage and ribs are quite good, and the smoky sauce compliments their heavy char well (though be warned, if you don't like a lot of char on your barbecue then you should probably avoid them both; I loved them specifically for this). The fried chicken, on the other hand, was not bad but there was nothing to write home about, lacking in both seasoning and moisture, so I would stick to the actual barbecue here instead. As for sides, all of the available breads (both normal and corn) are soft and flavorful, and their baked beans are particularly scrumptious with bits of pork mixed in throughout. It's just a shame that the size of their sides leaves a lot to be desired, as calling the amounts provided in to-go containers tiny is generous at best. A few tips if you are going to eat here: I have only gotten to-go orders, so your dine-in experience may differ, but call ahead of time to order since the wait times can get pretty high during meal hours. Also, do NOT set your bag on your car seat; each time I have gotten food here, barbecue sauce has been slathered all over the outside of the bag, and you will be scrubbing it off of your seat for days. Whoever is handling these bags in the kitchen really needs to think before grabbing them with their sauced kitchen gloves and smearing it all over the bags and containers (I have actively watched...
Read moreFor those who don’t want to read the following block of text: One of the best places I’ve ever eaten at. Will be back any time I am in the area. 100% recommend.
BBQ places, for me, need to hit a few key areas. Hog Fathers did to say the least.
Pros:
-Delicious sides. Mac n cheese, sweet potato fries, garlic mashed potatoes, and cole slaw were all top notch. I don’t even like sweet potatoes and would’ve eaten two orders of those fries, so I can only imagine how good their regular fries are.
-Good meats. Baby back ribs were fall off the bone, sauce was slightly tangy and delicious. Good ratio too. Chicken had a light breading and was soooo juicy! Brisket was smokey, meaty, and fell apart. Was great on a sandwich with slaw and as a separate entree.
-Sweet tea was amazing as promised. Filled up by our server immediately after finishing time and time again.
-Service was fantastic. Greeted like family the second we approached the doors, servers and kitchen staff were all friendly and asking if everything was good.
-Vibe was appropriate. Interior and music matched that of a classic BBQ joint. Very enjoyable.
-Bathrooms were clean and tidy. Two family bathrooms was a neat setup, two people could go anytime regardless of gender.
Cons:
-Seats were uncomfortable and tight. Would be awesome to see them upgraded but it wouldn’t ever stop me from coming back for the well-priced and...
Read moreBEWARE !!! We have enjoyed hog fathers in canonsburg for many years. Tonight they over charged us and also forgot to put our cake in with the order that we paid for. After driving 18 min there 18 min home then 18 min back I explained that we were over charged our cake was not in the bag and we also left a 20% tip on a $83 dollar order. I kindly asked for a extra piece of cake. I was told the cake is 9 dollars after I just spent $98 total drove 4 ways at 18 min each way . On the way there on the way home back to pick up my cake and now home again totaling 1 hour and 12 min.. the best answer I got was and I quote " people make mistakes " I want to be clear THEY DO NOT TAKE CARE OF RETURING CUSTOMERS! myself being self employed I've learned the biggest clientele I have are returning customers. Which should always be taken care of. Especially in this tough time through the pandemic when we made sure to tip 20% to ensure the waitresses are shown respect for their hard work I feel like 1 piece of cake should have been ( NO PROBLEM ) . I was polite and accepted her answer but I'm not going to return and spend my hard earned money to waste over and hour of driving time , over charged on my bill and to tip generously to be treated like a extra piece of cake is the world to the manager of...
