We are staying in Cape Coral on vacation via an AirBNB. Our host stated this was the local hot spot for Mexican food. We had to try it. There were 6 of us.
A couple things I’d like to make clear about this visit. First, we’re still in the midst of a Covid pandemic and thusly many businesses have experienced difficulties and it’s totally understandable. We also opted to sit outside.
The outdoor seating area wasn’t comfortably clean. It’s was ok, but not to where you felt great about it. The silverware was wrapped in napkins and at least two of us had food inside the napkins. Not sure if that came from unclean utensils or something else.
The White Queso appetizer was delicious. The chips were fresh and warm. The salsa platter was decent, but not much to it in terms of quantity. Not bad though. The menu is large and has many delicious sounding items on it. It was hard to choose an item but eventually we all did. I also asked for a hotter salsa, some pickled jalapeños and onions, they gladly obliged. Those were all good.
Our food arrived in a normal amount of time and presented well. Immediately we were kind of disappointed with the corn tortillas as they were all under heated and rubbery, to a point that it really had a poor effect on the food across the board. Good tortillas are the foundation of a good meal at a Mexican Restaurant, at least if you ask me. The rest of the food was hit or miss. The beans were good, the rice was sweeter than any of us were used to at other places. The cheese wasn’t an authentic style, it was your basic three cheese white/yellow that you see at most American type Mexican Restaurants. Not a very authentic feel with these things in mind.
We ate and took the leftovers home. We all felt everything was average and definitely not worth the hype. It’s very possible that we could have caught them on a bad day. We aren’t mad, just disappointed. Especially since it cost $175 for 6 people (including one kids mean) with tip. Higher prices are understandable at this time with rising costs and pandemic issues etc. therefore I didn’t complain, I gladly paid my bill and left.
I’d also like to make it clear that out server was very good. She was kind, prompt and definitely did a great job. The lack of anything was not her fault and we didn’t make it her fault like some people do.
Take this review for what it’s worth. I would recommend either way going or not going. I’d say it’s worth your own opinion but I don’t think we would go back.
Hope this review helps both the restaurant and any would be customers. I also hope it’s not taken in a negative light. It’s not my intention to cause any harm, just provide...
Read moreHello everyone for all the good hearted individuals this was my experience with iguana Mia. I have dined in at iguana Mia a few times. I love the chips and salsa, the guacamole is really good. I was looking for work a little closer to home and decided to try them out for a job. I was so excited. I got hired. Orientation was great there were great perks working for the business. It seemed like a loving family owned generational passed down business. At least that’s what I thought. My first day all the excitement wore down a little. I was training on the line in the kitchen. The general manager was training me so I’m thinking great I’m going to learn a lot. NOT. Micheal told me maybe what 5 entrees were. At the end of my first day I was very disappointed I did not see that coming. I trained for three days and on the fourth day Gina a manager calls, and says, I don’t have to come in they are no longer continuing training with me. She was so emotionless and gave no care. I got fired!!! In Florida they have a 90 day period to just fire you for no reason. Honestly there was no reason. I felt the need to go to the main office and let Todd Harrison the vice president of the company and Dirk Atherton the president of the company know what happen. I explain the lack of training. Crying and emotional because it’s hurtful but mostly messed up on so many levels. They were both cold as ice. “It’s nothing personal” they say. Insinuate that I’m making my story up. Well Micheal has trained many people before you. “What did he just single you out” dirk atherton says. I’m mind boggled. The worst experience and lack of professionalism I have ever encountered. Just because your well off now doesn’t mean you can treat people anyway you want but it seems to them that’s the case. I could see if I did something. There was no reason to treat me in that manner what’s so ever. I felt like a peace of trash. Gum they scraped off their shoe. I wouldn’t give these people a dime. That’s how they...
Read moreMy opinion has changed! I dined here a few times. Although the food was good it took to long to be greated at the door every time I came and the service wasnt overly impressive after that. I came on a beautiful day a few months back sky was clear and beautifully blue. I asked if my mother and I could sit out side and the lady said they were not seating anyone outside cause it may rain later. I said well if its starts we will gladly move inside. She proceeded to tell us outside was not going to be an option. The patio is huge and covered but I said okay and left... This was crazy because we live in Florida and you could literally say this about every single day of the year... I had spanish food out side at a different location while never being inturrupted by a drop of rain... But at least we had something to laugh about over out margaritas...
Fast forward to Saturday. My husband and I are dying for some chimis... We decide to give it another try hoping for new staff and better service. He didn't want to sit outside so I new we at least wouldn't run into that problem again. It still took a while to get greeted at the door. My husband is always hot and Im always freezing but we were both comfortable with the temperature which is a big deal for us. Our server was Abbey. She was the sweetest thing. Great service and very knowledgeable of the menu. She made me a fan of this place again. Food was so good I almost went back the next day. We both had chimis topped with queso and they have the best pinto beans! Margaritas were made to perfection. I will definitely be back but I will be calling ahead first to make sure Abbey...
