Oh boy, let me tell you; if I was wearing socks. They would have been blown off!
My girlfriend and I were in town visiting her parents for a week from the East Coast of Canada. Our final night we decided to go out for a nice dinner and a few drinks. Her dad spent a dogs year pool side roasting to perfection and scouting places to eat. I woke up from an alcohol induced nap to three excited slightly sun burnt faces ready to go to town at Nevermind.
Not wanting to keep everyone waiting I jumped in the shower wanting to look my best for all the expected 70 somethings I was going to see at dinner. To my disappointment when ironing my favourite shirt it had paint on it from a previous trip. Luckily for the group I'm pretty resilient. I went back to the closet and found my 3rd ish favourite shirt as I was feeling particularly handsome and figured I didn't want the ol blue hairs chasing me around making the old lady jealous.
We called an uber who I think got lost but eventually found us. At this point excitement is at an all time high. My knees are weak and palms are sweaty.
I'm going to Nevermind.
The Uber driver was about the median age of most the folks in that town, ~70; and did about 10 mph under the speed limit so the 6 minute drive felt like an eternity.
When we arrived I was slightly confused. I can only compare the visuals to the Knights Inn we stayed at in St Petes that had knife holes in the walls.
Then it happened. We decided to go in.
I was greeted with the sounds of a few of my favourite bands of all time. First Nirvana then some Alice in Chains. Then more of it and sprinkle in some Rage. My girlfriends father is pretty musically in tuned and was digging the music as well. At this point "Nevermind" finally clicked in my brain and I figured things out. What a cool theme.
Our server was casually dressed and flying solo. There were a couple other tables in the main dining area (indoors). Still slightly confused the the decor, we all sat down. Immediately when I picked up the menu I knew this place was going to be great.
Both couples found some things we were ESC going to share. The girlfriend and I ended up going with the pulled pork grilled cheese and mac and cheese. The parents went with Brussel sprouts, volcano spring rolls and wings.
Everything was pretty timely. And was absolutely amazing, worth EVERY SINGLE penny. My second beer took a little bit of time to get as we had to flag down the server but later we realized he was flat out having tables inside and out. With context, he did an awesome job. We forget his name but he was serving Monday April 10th. I don't think he could have done much better and still properly attend all the tables he had. Awesome work. We have been in the industry before and really appreciate courteous professional service. A+.
I would send all the customers I can your way but it might be a tad difficult from our side of the world. All I ask, anyone reading this, is you give these guys a shot. We found the locally owned theme to be few and far between in our American travels with all the chains but these guys make awesome food and deserve...
Read moreThis establishment is cozy and reminds me of some Irish pubs downtown Boston. Their menu is above average for a bar and way below average for a restaurant, and price wise there is A LOT of room for improvement.
The reason for my 3 stars review is because they charge a questionable "service fee" if you're paying by credit card. Something start-ups used to do back when Square card readers came out. Im disappointed at that because the benefit of accepting credit cards in your establishment only makes your business stay consistent with the other businesses around. when you charge your customers for a "service fee" because they're paying by credit card it does not make you look like a professional business. We are already contributing to your wealth by going there. Not Even the newest bars in town are doing that FYI. for this I give it a 4 out of 10 rating
Now for aesthetics: Like i mentioned above, nice and cozy, low light vibe, worn out concrete floors, hard rock music, looks like some repeat customers walked in during our visit. Friendly staff, pretty knowledgeable of the menu. we sat a the dining room side. it felt like I was at a Contemplated Garage Restaurant if you know what i mean. Plenty of parking behind the building. Definitely a 7 out of 10 rating.
Presentation: Nice presentation to our dish which was the $18 combo of 6 wings and 1 Burger. and we also got an appetizer which was kind of a spring roll with crab meat and cream cheese inside (very tasty) and the presentation was well done! 8 out of 10 rating
Overall, this is a 3 star restaurant but a 3.5 star Bar.
We look at many aspects before averaging out the rating. this is not a Unsatisfied customer rating. we tried to be as constructive and educating...
Read moreI came here on a monday night on my break between semesters at college to get a couple drinks with my friends. The food seemed overpriced to me so my girlfriend and I just got drinks (our friends tried the wings, which they said were decent but not worth the price). From there we paid our tab and on the way out our girlfriends decided they wanted another drink so we went over to the bar. The bartender collected all of our IDs and took them to the back for probably about 5 minutes, came back, and told us he would only serve us water. At this point we were pretty upset because we didnt understand why we were being cut off so we left. On the way out a police cruzer drove by the bar. As of this morning it would appear that they cut us off because they thought we were using fake IDs and then subsequently called the police on us. I understand that as a college student I am fairly young for the bar scene around here but from the point we walked into the bar the waitstaff seemed alienating, additionally I really do not appreciate having the police called on me, regardless of the fact that we hadn't done anything wrong, because who wants to deal with the police when they're enjoying a night out with...
