I saw a review where I had posted a five-star rating for good food and good service seven years ago. Unfortunately, the two experiences I've had over the last week and a half have made me want to come back and revise my feelings toward this restaurant.
My oldest sister came to town after years of being away and ordered all of her favorites, including raw oysters on the half shell. All of the crackers were extremely stale. The étouffée had very little flavor. The oysters, once huge and flavorful, were not the same. I realize this could be due to the season; however, the stale crackers that were served with them left a lot to be desired.
After we paid, the manager came over to our table and asked how things were, and we let him know that the crackers were stale.
My friend and her husband, who came from California to visit, wanted to eat there because it had been her old workplace. I was disappointed, after having a few crackers that seemed fresh, to learn that the remaining crackers were all as stale--or worse--than they were during my previous visit with my sister over a week ago. Her seafood gumbo had one shrimp. Her husband's jambalaya tasted like tomato paste with no other flavor.
Additionally, we ordered a bottle of Riesling. Noticing that the neck of the bottle was extremely warm, we asked for additional ice. Sadly, it was not even remotely cold by the time we had finished our meal and paid our tab. I asked if I could just pay for a glass, however, due to the fact that we opened it they could not accept the bottle, but only charged me for a glass; thank you for that.
Our amazing server, Samantha, is the only positive thing I can say about my recent visits to this restaurant. Thank you for your attentiveness, Samantha.
Broussard's has been a Cape Girardeau staple for decades. I am now unsure about bringing visitors back to this restaurant based on the two experiences I've had in under two weeks. I hope things improve. I realize that this business is under new ownership recently, and I hope they take this review seriously and realize they are cutting the...
Read moreThe service was awful. First , they tried to seat us in a cramped table where we couldn’t even pull out the second chair because it was jammed next to another table. Then they cleaned a small booth for us to sit at. The server that waited on us didn’t bring our drinks. After 15 minutes, we found him and asked if we could get our drinks. Then he brought them out and asked my husband what he ordered for his salad. Then he brought out the salad. After 35 minutes we ask another waiter if she could check on our meal. She proceeded to tell us that the meals usually took 30 minutes but that it was busy and could take longer. We asked her to check how much longer it might be. At this time there had been three tables cleared and they were not allowing people to sit upstairs. After another 10 minutes, which is now45 minutes since we ordered, my husband asked the girl how much longer it would be. She answered in a very haughty voice, “I told you it would be longer. The cooks said they would let me know and they haven’t”. I decided that was enough. We asked for the manager and said we would pay for our teas and the salad he ate. She said she wouldn’t charge for the salad but charged 6.50 for our two teas. The manager replied that our server was new and the other waitress was stressed. They clearly need a manager that can do a better job of helping the employees or maybe it’s time to close...
Read moreThis was my 1st visit to Broussard's, I travel to the area but I'm not a fan of spicy (hot) food so I wasn't sure I would find something I liked. I decided to give it a try and so glad I did. My server was GRANT and he was amazing. He helped me pick out something after asking what I liked and spice levels. Once I decided on the Half and Half , he offered me a sample of the etouffee so I could make sure it wasn't too spicy. Grant was very attentive and the Gator was awesome. The Half and Half was so big, I could not even eat half the etouffee, but I sure ate all the Gator bites. I taste tested the gator etouffee, but ordered the crawfish etouffee since i wanted gator bites - I did like the gator in it better. I saved room for dessert after seeing the pic of the Mississippi Mud Cake (I usually won't even look at dessert), it was the most delicious yummy chocolatey rich goodness I have had in a long time (maybe ever... lol). I think I ate half of it, but the other half will be lucky to make it til breakfast. The atmosphere was different, I went for an early dinner so it wasn't very busy. I did enjoy checking out the decor and it reminded me of New Orleans. I would definitely recommend Broussard's and I hope you get Grant as your server and...
