I wanted to really enjoy this place. I am a Cape Native and have seen this place forever. Recently had a chance to go get pizza and beer with the family after a funeral and this place was suggested so we all went. Atmosphere is amazing and the place smelled heavenly, plus the staff was pleasant and on the ball so positives all the way around so far. Ordered a large draft beer which came served in a margarita fish bowl glass. Kinda weird I guess but the glass was iced/ frosted which is another major plus for me. Nothing like a ice cold beer in a frosted mug. Pizza is really one of the things that benefits from great beer and the iced glass is a BIG bonus for me when i see it. Ordered what was on draft and asked for a lime for my beer and was told they didn't have beer that used a lime and they didn't have any. That's weird!! Never heard of lime in a beer? Corona has used lime in beer since it was new on the market then there is bud light lime, then Michelob lime, then Shiner lime, etc etc. I deducted a star from the food rating on this review because of the lack of lime and the look I got when I asked for lime. Comeon folks you had orange garnish for the blue moon, carry lime too for those of us who like lime with our cervezas.
Next deduction of a 1/2 star is when I asked for a thin crust Brooklyn style pepperoni pizza and they didn't know what that meant. I thought everyone knew what Brooklyn style pepperoni pie was. It's thin crust pepperoni pie that you fold in half and it's extra olive oily and grease drips from it and the crust is crispy and thin. Asked if the pepperoni was supposed to be on top or under the cheese. It turned out GOOD though and I enjoyed the pizza, even if they didn't know what "Brooklyn style" meant. Half star for this. It was still delicious so only a half. This is a restaurant that specializes in making pizza. You should know what Brooklyn style, Detroit style, Chicago deep crust, and Chicago thin crust / Aurelios pizza is, even if you don't serve it. Brooklyn pepperoni should be a staple at ANY pizza restaurant in my opinion. Millions of people love it!
Last half star came from trying a slice of the Hawaiin pie my aunt ordered. This is a funny thing to pizza people, either people who order it are weird or it's truly amazing pizza. I'm one of the weirdos who love real Canadian bacon and sweet pineapple on a pizza. The pineapple was not sweet on this pizza. Not sure why it wasn't sweet but it wasn't quite "right" so this took off the second half of a star. If I paid the full price for a Hawaiin and I was underwhelmed because the pineapple wasn't right I would have been sad. Luckily I had the pepperoni and it was great. I have my aunt a piece of mine and she said she wished she got the pepperoni.
My other aunt enjoyed her meat lovers and my uncle enjoyed whatever he ordered.
I give this review as a guide to get better only, and to not damage the reputation of the restaurant. In that regard I also want to list the stuff you guys got right.
Location. This has been around FOREVER. I am traditional and love the history of a place. I used to eat at Nick the Greeks pizza joint by the SEMO football stadium when i was little. I STILL miss that place!! It holds many positive memories for me as a kid. I appreciate the history and the fact that you are still around in business says ALOT about your business. I will support you and eat at your business even with the reduced stars cause the pepperoni pizza i ordered was good and even if you don't take the criticism as constructive I'll find what I like that you do great at and just eat that.
Your staff was friendly and on the ball!! It was late at closing time when we came in and you guys still hustled to make us dinner and make it great. No hint that you didn't appreciate our business no matter what time!
3 ice cold beer served in an iced glass. This earned you a star back from the overall rating.
I'll be back to try more!! Keep doing what you do GREAT!! I'll bring my own lime...
Read moreWe got there, and it was pretty busy. Was told it was a 15-20 minute wait. After 30 minutes, we got our seats in a smaller crowded area. We have a family of 5, so it's not huge. Waitress was very un attentive. We were trying to ask questions, but she was too busy yelling at other tables that she'd be there in a minute to answer our questions. My wife ordered 2 appetizers, and we only received one at first and after arguing with the waitress cause she kept insisting that we ordered one, we got the second. After 10 minutes after ordering, she came back to inform my son that she was out of the spaghetti pie. 5 minutes later, she returned to inform my daughter that they were out of her order as well. We waited just over 45 minutes for our food. 4 other groups that came in after us ate and left before us. Groups of 8, 4 (2), and 2. My wife was a little upset, and the waitress argued after seeing her upset and then proceeded to walk around the corner where I could still see her and was talking about my wife with the other workers. We finally received our food, which was small portioned and subpar. The lasagna was meh, and the pizza wasn't any better than any other place in town. This was the second worst dining experience I've had since I've moved to this state and would not suggest...
Read moreI don't care How good your food is but if the service staffs is bad I wouldn't set feet there again. The staffs looked at me from head to toe as I opened the door and walked into the restaurant. Look with contemptuous eyes as I have money to eat at This restaurant? I called to order and I would curbside pickup but I changed my mind and walked into the restaurant myself to pickup I don't want the staff to suffer It's cold outside and they been busy I wasn't prepared to eat so I wasn't wearing a Gucci dress to eat I don't put on full makeup. This is just a small town in Missouri, not Paris France or Rome Italy. You don't have to look at me with such disdainful eyes. When my meal was finished, they pointed at the pizza box and said, 'This is your meal.' They didn't say a word of Thank you to me. They turned their faces away and facial expression in different directions. If compared to restaurants that sell the same type of food as you, for example: Mingle wood, Dog wood , Rosati , Bella Italian and Olive garden The service of your staff can't compete with them. I'm not very impressed....
