My family and I have patronized Erik’s since the 1970’s. Times have changed. In the last 3-5 years, we’ve found staff to be apathetic, unfriendly and sometimes rude. Additionally, the soups and chili are not made there; they are made by some restaurant supply chain. So what is the big back kitchen for? All the salad and sandwich ingredients are up front. Their chili used to be thick and rich, but now it’s been probably at least 25% diluted with extra sauce in place of beans and meat. Staff often forgets to supply crackers or toppings (cheese and onions for chili) all of which are supposed to come with soups and chili. The chicken pesto sandwich has been disappointing. Not hot, and some of the chicken had straw-like texture. Weird. Like it wasn’t chicken at all. I presume the staff is unhappy, perhaps under paid. That’s how it seems, anyway. I know Covid was difficult for restaurants, so we do try to take that into...
Read moreLove Eriks deli. Always good quality sandwiches and friendly staff! Great soup too. I mostly go to the capitola location since it is next door to my office, but I frequently visit Scott's valley, downtown, and Santa Cruz locations as well, and they are all consistent. The salads are made fresh with many ingredients to choose from, I always give very specific instructions when I have mine made, and they do a great job. Made to order sandwiches are always good, again with fresh and natural ingredients. I wish they had sliced pickles because i love pickles but they do have pickle spears. If you order to est in they will give you your drink in a Mason jar but order to go comes in a paper cup.
The Scott's valley location is really cool with all of the 1800s wild west decorations, and all the other locations have cool decoration too but not as much.
Good place to go and support...
Read moreI stumbled onto this spot while on a work trip. It was lunch time and I was in the mood for a nice sandwich. So I decided to give this place a try. Right when I walked in I noticed how clean the place was, which I appreciate greatly. They had just opened so I was the only customer. I placed my ordered at the counter. Their menu has so many great sounding sandwiches. But I decided to go the REO Speedwagon and a side house salad. Along with an iced tea. I sat down at a booth and my food arrived shortly after. The sandwich had a nice helping of quality meats, fresh produce and the sour dough bread was perfection. The salad was also very good and the perfect size. Overall everything tasted great and at a reasonable price. The staff were all friendly and provided prompt service. I will definitely come here again when I’m...
