So ive figured out this place supplies the "fresh" 떡 (tteok) to the hmarts in the area, as well as im pretty sure they have something to do with the new escapé toppoki (떡볶이) place. Cant speak for the new restaurant. BUT i can speak for the in store stuff at the hmarts. Let me start off with positives. Last yr (2023) i bought 송편 (songpyeon) early sunday morning in march at plano hmart along with 영양찰떡 (yeongyang-chaltteok) and 약식 (yakshik). They were delicious, Ive even been to Korea since then, and had 꿀떡 (honey tteok/songpyeon) and 약식. It was a similar taste. This was the only way ive ever gotten to try their 떡 due to the negative reviews saying how terrible the owners/shop keepers treat people. I didn't understand the reviews on quality and taste but now i do.... Today in the afternoon on Sunday i went to hmart plano to get some korean home sick comfort items and got 약식. When we got home and went to sample it, it tasted strange... i thought oh its just a fluke from sitting all day. Then a stringy curly "hair like" thing came out of the rice. We then discovered its more like a small wire type thing with blue on it... so needless to so say, im not sure anymore about escapé. I would rather use the new york bakery in the korea...
Read moreMy mom bought 3 different rice cakes from here and we tried one and it was rotten. It tasted spoiled. The other two were fine. She called the store to let them know that one of the purchases was spoiled and the lady was nice and said that they will give us credit, so the next time we come in they will provide us a free rice cake to make up for the rotten one. Maybe 5 minutes later the lady calls back and states that she tried the other rice cakes at work and that it was fine, asked us to come back to the store to see the problem. We live 40 mins away, we weren’t going to drive back and forth… and the lady kept on insisting that the rice cakes were fine. If she said from the beginning that she can’t refund or do anything about it then we wouldn’t be too upset, it is what it is. But she offered a free rice cake and then calls back to take that offer back. She shouldn’t have offered that in the first place then. Horrible service. They claim that the rice cakes are fresh but there are many instances where the rice...
Read moreI went to buy rice balls, boba, and juice drink at Escape Boba inside H-mart. My friend curiously took some photos of a few rice cake items on display counter. The items have no labels and pricing. There was not a single "No Photographs" sign anywhere at this store. The store manager (maybe owner) saw, and yelled rudely asking her to delete the photos. My friend deleted the photos immediately. The manager insisted and then rudely grabbed her phone to inspect the photos on her phone. Was that a violation of my friend’s privacy? I guessed she didn’t want people to see their disgraceful looking products, and/or they were ashamed of their products.
The drinks we bought were nothing special. The tasteless rice cake was like chewing gum with a little bit of unsweetened and unrefined red bean paste. We should have walked a few steps across the hallway to buy from a different shop instead. I want to share our terrible experience...
