We decided to come for a late dinner, around 11pm.
I wanted to start by saying it was pretty hectic to check in. There was a line almost out the door. We had to ask a couple of other customers about checking in or what to even do. There was no sense of direction or anyone to come up to greet us. No sign in sheet. Some of the customers didn’t know either that came in right after us. We ended up walking to the counter and asking. One of the waitresses ended up writing a number on a sticky note and let us know it would be 30 minutes. We were seated sooner around 10 minutes afterwards at least. I would improve on the checking in system, especially for it being a busy establishment. A lot of people were standing there looking around, unsure of what was going on.
The service wasn’t that great. No one was rude persay. But if you’re wanting traditional waitressing, you’re not going to get it here. I understand they are pretty busy, and they were kind of just running around. You had to flag them down, and hope they see your arm raised. I think implementing a light system that turns on when you need something would help a lot in this type of situation. When we were helped, the lady was nice and polite. But we didn’t get a refill of water in the pitcher.
The food was a mix. I loved the flavor of the broccoli skewer. It had a nice blend of cumin and other spices, it was probably my favorite thing. It was also brought to me fresh and hot. However, my beef skewer tasted pretty good, I just wish it was less fatty and had less cartilage. But the flavor was there, just not the texture. My husband had a lamb skewer and he said a piece on there tasted sort of rancid, which threw him off. However, the chicken heart skewer tasted pretty good to him.
I also got the stir fried beef noodles. I enjoyed the in house made noodles. They have a slight doughy texture that I personally like. The seasonings were perfect, however I had the same problem with the beef. A lot of tendon and Cartilage, not enough leaner pieces of meat in my noodle dish.
My husband got the Soy Bean Paste Noodle dish. It looks a lot like Dan Dan noodles, but without the spice. He questioned if he was given the correct dish or not, because it did not look like what was advertised but on our receipt it does indeed say Soy Bean Paste Noodle. It also did not have much of a soy bean flavor, but the taste wasn’t bad. He didn’t like how some of his noodles weren’t evenly cooked. A lot of it was to do with how they were cut and prepared, a lot of the thinner parts cooking more evenly than the thicker parts of the noodle. Some pieces were slightly undercooked in his opinion.
Overall, it wasn’t terrible. We would like to give Fat Ni another shot before having a final opinion. I would change some things to make the service flow better, so people aren’t left standing around and maybe implement the light or something similar as I mentioned above and a better check in system. I think the food would be a little better with slightly better cuts of meat and noodles cooked a little more. But like I said, the spices are perfect...
Read moreUpdate: Haven't gone here in over a year, I go to ones in Plano only now after the last experience I had there and my food was inedible, I couldn't eat it.
Went there after work on a weekday (like 8PM?) because I was craving some of their food after a long tiring day....It was very slow, not many customers at all, like 1-2 tables....The guys there cleaned basically that WHOLE kitchen down HOURS before close....WHY? There were more customers coming after us, too!
I couldn't even eat my food, I'm serious. It all tasted like soap and chemicals. The noodles made me want to gag. And the skewers of meat as well were straight up chemical tasting. They even told my husband in Chinese that it would take some extra time to make the noodles.... Waited a long time and they were inedible and didn't even have the sauce on it, the noodles were SO BARE.
Really disappointing because every late night weekend we went there for our little date nights and the auntie who was there, PHENOMENAL SERVICE! She was so nice and always made sure we were happy with our food.
I would say avoid slow weekdays.....and when the auntie isn't there. The guys were slacking when she wasn't there and were trying to basically close down hours before closing time.
IF YOU WANT SKEWERS, I CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE ENOUGH!!!
Will be a repeat late night date spot for my husband and I!
We're new to Dallas, moved from Houston.
My husband just got back from a work-related trip and everything else nearby he was interested in eating was closed by the time his flight got in (10 PM). We searched for something open until at least 2 AM, so we didn't have to rush to eat at a place closing at midnight.
We found this place, and it's open until 2 AM.
We used to go to a place in Houston occasionally but were disappointed in the quality of the food, the meat was always so dry at the other place.
We came into this place with similar expectations: we were blown away by how different it was in comparison. Literally, we stared at each other with wide eyes and said "WOW, THE MEAT IS JUICY, NOT DRY!"
Not only was the meat NOT dry, the portion size per skewer was bigger/more meat than the place back in Houston gave!
Aside from the delicious food, the service was EXCELLENT.
We ordered a lot of food, we wanted leftovers to take home to have to eat today for lunch/dinner. They were SO kind to even give us a coupon for our next visit, since we...
Read moreI’m from Los Angeles and the last time I visited this store was 1 year ago with my girlfriend but at their Plano location… their food wasn’t great then but the lady that was working was really nice and we always believe in supporting small businesses… we saw that they opened a 2nd store and was excited to visit… we ordered a 36 beef noodle soup, 46 egg wheat starch noodle, lamb and chicken bone meat skewer…
Food 36 beef noodle soup: the noodles were ok over all… but the beef had literally 0 flavor… have to add chili oil for flavor
46 egg wheat starch noodle: boy this was the worst dish over all… it was so soggy, and I can literally see the noodles drowning in oil at the bottom of the plate like their oil was free or something.
Skewers: the skewers were fine… but their “chili powder” was not spicy at all…
Now service: now this is a good one… for the table next to us (5 people), the server would still know how to go greet them with a smile and ask if everything was good. We literally had 0 check ups, which i wish they did so i could let them know how much oil and soggy their starch noodle was. I used to work In restaurant industry as well so basic manners and “thank you” is just very normal for me… but surprisingly not from them and if i remembered correctly, one of the servers was the exact server i saw at Plato last year. I asked the other lady for the check, but she was the one that collected our check, and handed it back to us after swiping the card. Both picking up or handing it back to us there was no eye contact, she was busy looking at somewhere else and without a thank you… while me as a customer was saying thank you back to them…
Tipping: i love how all these restaurants give you an option now to choose your tip to make it “easier” for the customers… but the minimum they’ll make it easier is 18%. They’ll want customers to tip more, but they’ll give them under minimum service… that’s not how i was brought up, we had to work for our tips back in the days. In the end i only gave them 10% which IMO was very generous… the service was seriously way below standards SMH… we’re most likely not gonna visit this chain again as they probably feel like they have enough regulars and making enough already… so good...
