I read the reviews and still tried them out. The saying of where there’s smoke, there’s fire comes to mind as I should’ve heeded the advice of others and avoided Los Lupes.
I would offer that many folks judge a Tex-Mex restaurant by the “big three” of margaritas, chips & salsa, and fajita’s, and we tried all three.
The margaritas. Well, they are cheap during happy hour. The taste is also cheap. My bar is very low for a $2.75 ‘rita, and I think it was right there just above the line in terms of taste & value. I would be very underwhelmed paying more for that during a non-happy hour price. It tastes similar to some Lasko bulk powder margarita pre-made mix. Think Chili’s unremarkable basic ‘rita’s.
Chips & salsa This was the high point. They were customary and un remarkable. Not as good as El Fenix, Chili’s or Los Jalapeno’s. They didn’t try to have a new slant or trendy take such as Mexican Sugar, 7 Salsa’s, or Gloria’s. Forgettable and acceptable sum it up nicely.
Fajitas With good cuts of beef, marbling is to be expected. When a restaurant takes the cheaper inner cut of the flank, some fat can be expected. It seems to me they buy the very cheapest cuts from their wholesaler and an inordinate amount of beef laced fat was my wife’s meal. She got combo beef/chicken fajitas and the chicken was more edible. It was a bit dry, but compared to fatty beef that bounces your jaw & mouth back open, she was able to get a mostly complete meal out of it.
Enchiladas I got some fajita beef enchiladas and had a similar experience with the bouncing back knuckle meat. The beans were cold and the spanish rice reminded me of the “delivered via giant squeeze tube rice” that Chili’s switched to post-pandemic. I tried my kid’s taco and cheese enchilada, and it was consistent with the rest of the low price, lower quality meal. Minimally exceptional. If you expect a similar quality as what Taco Cabana offers, you’ll be disappointed here.
Non-food thoughts. We have a toddler and one of those high chairs that attaches to the table because..have you ever seen how dirty & sticky restaurant high chairs are?! My concern was how uneven and lopsided the table was ignoring the uneven wobble. The height difference for a ~5 foot long table was over 4” across the length. That’s a structurally unsafe table that our server seemed to have heard before based on the unsurprised tone of her “I will let my manager know” response.
Our go-to mom & pop Tex-Mex is about a mile north on Josey, and we will not stray away from...
Read moreI’ve given this place multiple chances before leaving this review so here we go
I first ordered some food it was suppose to come with hash browns, when they brought my food out there was no hash browns and when I asked for them the server seemed to have an attitude about it. When they finally brought them to me it was small potatoes wedges and they weren’t seasoned or anything just bland.
Second time I went I order some breakfast tacos (which was delicious) however I also ordered biscuits and gravy and did not get that all. They gave me a breakfast sandwich (sausage, egg, shredded cheese on a biscuit) and don’t get me wrong it was good but it wasn’t what I ordered. I’m assuming The server had a hard time understanding me but I do feel as if he could have asked for help.
I came yesterday and order 2 breakfast biscuit sandwiches. I waited in my car for a good 7-10 mins only for them to come out and tell me they didn’t have any sausage. Didn’t ask if I wanted my money back just told me they will put bacon on it without asking if that was ok.
Now today I went and I ordered the sandwich and they still didn’t have sausage. There was no one else in the restaurant other than me and I still had to wait a good 15-20 min. On top of that the waiter was walking around biting his finger nails, sucking on his pinky finger bringing up ice and not once did he wash his hands. I looked back in the kitchen and from what I could see the cook just picked up my biscuit with his bare hands no gloves no nothing. Now in today’s climate I’m not sure why either the cook nor server thought that was ok. Lastly my food today came out around 4.60-4.70 I gave him a five and he walked off and never acknowledged he owed me change. Now 40/30 cent is not a lot but it’s the principal of the matter. I said nothing just threw my food out and won’t spend it...
Read moreMy family has been going to this restaurant since 2006 but after my last visit I can say that I will never go again. My father who has dementia wanted to go to this restaurant for his birthday because it's one of the places that he actually remembered going to with my mom who passed away in August. So in September me and my boyfriend decided to take him for dinner. We were sat in the corner booth immediately to the left when you walk in. Given menus. After 10-15 minutes we flagged down the server to order drinks and then it took another 15 to get our drinks. They dropped off chips and salsa. Another family was brought in, sat ( in the booth next to us) and then giving their order while we were still waiting for our server to come back and take our order. I kept seeing our server walk past and felt at that point like she was intentionally looking the other way when passing because I was trying to get her attention so that we could order our food.(We had literally been there for at least 30 minutes at that point)Finally we had to flagg down a different staff member who said that he was going to get our server. After he walked off to find our server the food was brought out to the family next to us. Me and my boyfriend looked at each other at that point and said Chili's? So we got up told them nevermind, went to register to pay for our drinks and chips and just left. I don't know if the fact that my boyfriend is black and in a wheel chair had anything to do with our experience but I have never been treated that way before. However the entire experience and vibe of that night was so off putting and I was so disappointed with our experience that I won't ever go back. And FYI there is a Chili's right across the frwy , We went over there and were treated wonderfully and had a fabulous night! We will be going to Chili's from now on when...
