The restaurant itself is beautiful, spotless, modern, with high end touches like Japanese bidets, quality chopsticks, and elegant decor. It really sets the stage for what should be a great dining experience.
Where things fell apart was the sushi. We asked for two hand rolls (two people dining, simple enough), but instead were served two cut rolls. When I clarified, it was clear we were up against a language barrier. The staff were translating back and forth with the chef, and the miscommunication never got resolved.
But the biggest issue was the rice. Sushi should hold together easily - sadly the rice was falling apart faster than my New Year’s resolutions.
We had a sake, four rolls, and two salads. The bill came to $85. Honestly, if the rice had been made properly, the rest of the mix-ups wouldn’t have bothered me. But with the basics off, the whole meal just didn’t land.
One extra detail: on the way out, a car pulled up with a few men in suits unloading groceries into the restaurant. They called out to me and asked how the meal was, which was actually really kind. I didn’t tell them the full truth in that moment, and I’m okay with that.
Turns out the restaurant is owned by local attorneys, which explains the car full of suits. So here’s a pro tip for future reviewers: always leave five stars. That way, when you tear into the details, it can’t count as defamation of character… you literally praised them. It’s like a legal loophole for sushi...
Read moreI have loved this place. But recently I recommended it to my friends who are visiting from France. The wife speaks great English and the server handed them the menus then leaned over and marked off several things in the paper and said ‘you can’t have these with the all you can eat.’ So they didn’t look at the main menu, they just marked a couple of rolls and took some Sashimi since they were familiar with it. Turns out sashimi isn’t in the all you can eat, but she hasn’t marked it off and they didn’t realize so they had two 12 piece plates, and they were charged $100. They didn’t eat that much, so they were charged for the all you can eat and the sashimi. When the waitress realized she hadn’t explained it and they hadn’t looked at the menus to see that it wasn’t included she just apologized and charged them. They ate so little that they had a full dinner later. I explain all of this to show how even though they could have shown understanding and realized they hadn’t eaten enough sushi to cover the cost of one all you can eat, they were still charged. I called later to talk with a manager and was promised she would call me back. She never did. Then that the owner would call me. He didn’t. So for this reason I can’t recommend to go here, even if the food tastes great, they were not reasonable with my friends. This was the only bad experience they had in...
Read moreDisappointed After a Great Track Record:
We ordered takeout today and were honestly shocked at how bad the experience was. We got a salmon poke bowl, a rainbow poke bowl, the Pretty Lady roll, and the Alaskan roll. The poke bowls were a mess — just fish, seaweed, and crab thrown over what seemed like bad Spanish. There was no sushi rice and barely any sauce. The fish wasn't even properly cut — all the pieces were stuck together. The sushi rolls weren’t much better. They looked sloppy, and the Alaskan roll had shrimp in it instead of salmon. I've had better sushi from the deli counter at Smith's in Dayton. What really pushed this from a mistake to a total disappointment was the lack of customer service. When I called to address the issue, there was little care or effort from the staff. I was basically told to call back later and maybe someone would help — as if my time didn’t matter. What’s especially frustrating is that we've had amazing experiences here before and considered this the best sushi in town. But after this, we’ll probably be looking for a new spot.
Edit: they appear to continue to not value my time by using an AI draft template to respond to my review. I called several times to have the situation rectified and was always dismissed. I spent almost $100 on dinner and was treated, and am continued to be...
