The hotel is close to the city center--just a few blocks from a walkable area of downtown with restaurants, shops, and a park. It's also 1/4 mile from the Nevada Railway Museum. The location is the best feature. Downtown hotel options are very limited in Carson City. Most are out in the exurban hellscape along the highway. Staff here is very friendly and helpful. For that they get high marks.
It's a good thing there is remodeling going on because the hotel is looking tired. Room carpeting is worn. Rooms are not set up with enough outlets in convenient locations. There is a curtain to block light, but no second curtain to allow light in but provide privacy. I'm sure these issues will be resolved with the remodeling, so I will cut them a break.
What I hate the most is that they allow smoking in the casino, which takes up the whole first floor, so the whole first floor and the elevators reek of stale cigarette smoke. There is really no excuse for allowing indoor smoking anywhere these days, casino or not. I guarantee they do this because they want to keep as many guests at the gambling machines as long as possible. After all, if a smoking guest has to go outside for a smoke, they might decide to leave earlier than they otherwise would, thus turning over less of their gambling dollars to the hotel. The hotel manager's response to Angela Adams' comment below mine on this point is unacceptable: "We do our best to mediate any residual smoke that may enter the elevators. For the most part we are successful". That last sentence is false. They are not successful at all. Please don't B.S. us. There is no way to mediate the health effects of second-hand smoke. It's the 21st century after all. Compromising the health of your employees especially, as well as that of non-smoking guests over greed for gambling dollars is no way to run a business. This alone will keep me from ever staying here again (I didn't even eat in the hotel restaurant because of this). I'll try the hotel across the...

Bullet points this place is not; Clean Service animal friendly Military Friendly Friendly in general I’ll explain why; This was a stop to rest for the night as we were on my way up to WA. Upon our arrival, the Front desk lady (Marti) was extremely rude, and disrespectful, out of courtesy I informed her we had a service animal with us. She then assumed and said herself as well as the establishment does not support emotional support animals, I informed her ours was not an emotional support service animal. She then repeatedly asked what my wife’s disability was to have a service animal and wanted to see documentation for proof. She made a scene in front of other customers when I told her it was medical and personal I also informed her that by state law that was illegal. She then rolled her eyes and said “okay so?” (I wish I had left then, we were so tired from the trip we just wanted to rest up for the night) Then we got to the room (409) and it was dirty ! Look at the pics I provided, we immediately requested for another room in which the lady rolled her eyes at us. (417) The second room was okay, there was still stains on the floor. When I woke up the next morning we found out the toilet didn’t flush and I had a $250 charge for a “pet fee” without my knowledge. I went to the front desk and they tried to denying that they charging me. I wanted to speak to the manager (Chris trayler) he conveniently had left for the day and wouldn’t be back until 11pm and told the front desk lady (Kimberly) that it was a non...
Read moreThe beds were decently comfortable and the place was clean. That's the minimum standard I look for in a hotel. Unfortunately that was the only good thing about this place.
From minor problems to major:
the whole place is outdated. Take a step back 15 years to the early 2000s with lamp switches that hurt your fingers and are near impossible to find in the dark. Not important to me but the decor was ugly as hell too.
the balcony does not lock. If you ever stay here take all belongings with you and don't leave any in your room just in case. The latch doesn't close and the bolt they have installed doesn't reach.
Everything is loud. The floor creaks with every other step, the hinges of all the doors are beyond squeaky, and the sliding door sounds like a scream of a terrified person down a tunnel.
If you are a light sleeper or can't handle noise do not stay here. You wont get much sleep and your next day will be ruined. The reason the above statement is bad even if you're alone is that the rooms have almost no sound insulation. Your neighbor gets up to go to the bathroom? You're going to hear it. Someone sneezes next door? You heard that too. Neighbor goes to the balcony for a early morning cigarette? Hope you weren't trying to sleep in. The only good thing is the sound of traffic is so consistent it sort of acts like a white noise.
Edit The showers water pressure was amazing. I would drop this below a star if I could though. I had to clean the shower before I could use it. It was dirty and the previous guests used soap was still...
