UPDATE as of July 23, 2022
The general manager promptly reached out to us to rectify the situation. We truly appreciate his promptness and sincerity. We felt bad about the situation last night, not just the incident itself but the thought of not returning to our favorite Carson restaurant. Fortunately, we no longer have to contemplate that. We view last night as an aberration, a misunderstanding, and look forward to returning to the restaurant to enjoy meals and service as we always have. My wife and I are long-time patrons of this establishment. It’s been our standby/go-to ever since we moved to Carson City. Not anymore.
Shortly after we walked in the door this evening, a server walked past us to greet a larger party that walked in after us and seated them without greeting us. We weren’t bothered that they were seated ahead of us because they were not a party of two. Still, we thought it was a bit rude not even to be greeted before the other party was seated.
The server returned, grabbed two menus, and started to seat us when the host intervened and said she needed to check on availability. When she returned, she said they didn’t have any tables for two at that moment but that the wait shouldn’t be more than fifteen minutes. We said OK, took two steps back, and waited for perhaps five or ten minutes. During that time, the host greeted two more couples, took their names, and wrote them down on the list.
We realized she had never taken our names, so I approached her and asked if it would be helpful to have our names. She then indicated that she would place our names at the bottom of the list! Why? Because, she said, we simply walked away when she told us the wait would be fifteen minutes or less. Only we hadn’t walked away. We had said “OK” and then stood barely six feet in front of her. When we pointed this out, the host dug in her heels.
We asked to speak to the manager. She walked to the back and conferred with him, and he approached us several minutes later. He apologized for the “miscommunication” and said he would do his best. When we asked if that meant he would put us back in our proper place in the line, he repeated that he would do his best. When it was clear that “his best” did not include accommodating us, we walked out.
Not only was there no “miscommunication,” there was no plausible basis for the manager to believe there was. We never left the restaurant! We stood directly in front of the host! On what planet is that walking away? Even if there had been some miscommunication, the fact that the manager made no attempt to accommodate us is inexcusable. We were snubbed,...

Great Basin has been our go-to restaurant for over a year since moving to Carson. They have great food and good service. My husband I look forward to returning to our favorite establishment.
We have been regular customers at this restaurant for over a year since moving to Carson City. Tonight we experienced the worst customer service. I walked in and had to wait a few minutes for the hostess. By that time a line had formed behind me. A waitress approached. Rather than greet me, she walked right past me and greeted the party behind me with no acknowledgment. It was clear she knew them and they chatted for a bit. Very rude behavior. She then came back to me and I told her party of 2. She grabbed a couple menus and went to confirm availability. She came back with the hostess and said it would be about 15 minutes for a table. We said OK and stepped to the side. Neither of them asked for our name. Then they proceed to take the party behind me first; the people she knew.
Meanwhile, we waited inside the restaurant, a few feet from the podium. We noticed that two additional parties of 2 came in and were told about the 15 minute wait but were asked for their name and phone number. We were concerned because she did not ask for our information so we walked up to clarify that we are waiting and wanted to give her our name and phone number and to make sure she puts us ahead of the other parties that came after us. She refused to do that and told us that she thought we walked away. It was clear we DID NOT walk away because we were just a few feet from her. And we reminded her that we had said OK to waiting and that she had not asked us for our name and phone number. She again refused to do the right thing and was only willing to put us on the bottom of the list. We then asked for the manager. We explained to him what happened, and rather than being understanding and accommodating, he apologized for the “miscommunication” and said “we’ll do our best.” There was ABSOLUTELY no miscommunication and doing your best should have been clear and simple. You put us in our proper order. When we asked him if he’s going to do that, he simply repeated the same thing. At that point it became clear he was not going to do the right thing, so we walked out. What a joke of a manager and a spiteful hostess. Two people that should not be in that...
Read moreFinally stopped in after hearing so many good reviews from friends and we were not dissappointed. The food was fresh, flavorful, and it didn’t seem like they were trying too hard. We had the Bee Pizza which was an interesting mix of sweet and spicy. I loved it but the jalapeños were a little to much for my wife. We also had a pepperoni pizza that had a real good tomato sauce lots of fresh mozzarella and good quality pepperoni. The crusts are thin and wood fired with that little bit of char you get with that. They are the best we’ve had in Carson by a long margin and we’ve eaten at just about all the local places.
The pizzas are an in-between size. Too big for one person not quite enough for two unless your having other food.
We also got the roasted beets appetizer and a cup of the soup-du-jour, a Italian vegetable soup that was rich, flavorful, & comforting. I felt the soup was a real winner, especially because it was vegan and gluten free. It was so good in a cloudy cool day. The beets were good with a flavorful goat cheese sauce. Its not for everyone I’m sure, but if you like beets, they were done well.
Service was good. They accommodated a special seating request even though it was quite busy. The service was quick and efficient, if not overly friendly. That was fine for me because I don’t want to be “chatted up” while I’m eating but I know some people like a more personal touch. Of course, that’s the wait staff we had that night. Other waitstaff may be super friendly and talk your ear off.
The management was extremely involved in the operations and really seemed to be keeping an eye on the place.
Our bill, without alcohol was $53 before tip. We were stuffed and had left-overs. We’ll go back and it’s a place I’d be comfortable bringing friends or out of town guests for...
