I Just ate here with my family today 7/26/2025.
Right off the bat I told the guy taking my order that I read mostly negative reviews within the Carteret groups and verbally from the guys I work out with at RWJ….. but I’m going to try the food out because I’m someone that doesn’t buy in to reviews or opinions from others when it comes to food since it’s so subjective (so I do encourage you to try this place for yourself despite my forthcoming negative review so you can see for yourself).
Right off the bat, the fries were served at room temperature because they were waiting on the burgers to finish. The menu on the wall is incomplete and doesn’t list everything. We had a discussion about bacon not being on the displayed menu despite it being readily available in the kitchen. In addition, with the standard burger comes with some sort of mayo / garlic based dressing but isn’t listed. So be warned those with egg allergies (I am assuming their mayo is egg based like most mayo). I ordered a strawberry milkshake, while it was cheap in price @ about $5 it tasted even cheaper. It’s machine soft serve ice cream with syrup flavored strawberry…. As bad as the McDonald’s strawberry milkshake. Lastly, the actual Burger….. nothing special. It doesn’t come anywhere near the legendary locomotive (this comes off as bias but the truth).
This place isn’t a step down from Burger Express, it’s more like falling from the top of stairs and hitting every step all the way down. Burger express had a versatile menu…. they Served chili and grilled cheese sandwiches….. Brunswick Burger House doesn’t even have onion rings. While we weren’t expecting an exact continuation of Burger Express, they did set a high bar.
Lastly, when you have Burger House in your name, you gotta deliver in that department. Unfortunately they only offer their standard burger and a smashed burger… besides impossible burger and chicken variants of their burgers. Oddly, Their “ temporary” menu offers more sauce flavors than burger styles. That’s not a burger house that’s like a burger cardboard box.
I hope they will use this review to make the improvements needed to be successful.
edit for response:
I initially posted my review on your Facebook page and was "nudged" by Google to provide reviews the other day and I did so today because I found the time to copy and paste it. It is irrelevant that there is a 19 day difference.... I got to it when I found time to do so.
I don't know who Jose the manager from RWJ is nor do I care, I am speaking for other members I work out with. We don't involve RWJ gym management in every conversation. I don't care what marketing agreement you have in place with any other businesses' management. Its' fast food and shouldn't be marketed with a gym any way.
I am not a Carteret resident. I live in Woodbridge. I am not sure why you brought that up. Its' kinda weird.
I am not upset that Burger Express is gone, I ate there twice a year tops. Again, its weird to assume I am upset that Burger Express is gone. Its almost like you're admitting you ain't getting this right.
Instead of addressing the shortcomings which I am highlighting in my review, your response comes off as you attempting to cross examine me. I have absolute zero stake in anything related to the food industry and eat 95% of my meals at home. I honestly don't care about burgers. I took my family there to check it out as it was something new.
Lastly, I never seen any business (let alone a new burger place) accumulate 500 positive reviews in 3 weeks. That is very questionable and should be brought to the attention to Google Review to verify legitimacy.
Next time you respond to negative review try to smile and promise to improve instead of attempting to...
Read moreService: Upon entering, I was warmly greeted by both the store manager and cashier, who took my order. They were very kind, casual, and helped me navigate the menu. My order – a Double Smash Burger, Cheese Fries, and a Vanilla Shake (totaling $23) – arrived promptly in about 3-5 minutes.
Food Review: Cheese Fries: The cheese fries were perfectly crispy and fresh. The cheese sauce was good quality, hot, and flavorful. Overall, excellent cheese fries that I would happily order again
Double Smash Burger: Initially, there was a small mix-up with my burger order. However, when I brought it to an employee's attention, they quickly remade it correctly in about 3 minutes. The burger itself was delicious and satisfying. The meat was fresh, and the diced onions added great flavor. While the potato roll bun was a tad soggy from the grease and slightly smaller than I anticipated, it was overall a fantastic smash burger worthy of their name.
Vanilla Milkshake: The vanilla milkshake was delightfully thick with a satisfyingly heavy consistency – a real hallmark of a great shake. It melted slowly, and its taste was undeniably premium. An amazing milkshake with a flavor that definitely warrants a return visit.
Later, I also tried the Classic Sammy. I was pleasantly surprised by its sheer size – it was massive! The breading was superb, and I opted for the mild version. Overall, it was a hefty and delicious chicken sandwich that truly exceeded my expectations.
In summary, Brunswick Burger House, despite being new, boasts an outstanding staff, exceptional food, and an environment that cultivates genuine hospitality, making you eager to return. While the initial burger mistake was a minor hiccup, the service team's prompt and apologetic correction more than made up for it. Although their menu might seem focused, the quality and generous portion sizes of their offerings are impressive. Brunswick Burger House is a restaurant I highly recommend stopping by, whether you're heading home, looking for a casual meal out, or planning a family dinner. In my opinion, it's a place with massive potential and a dedicated team poised for success. I eagerly look forward to many...
Read moreI just left the grand opening, and honestly, the way things were handled was incredibly disappointing. There were two kids in front of me who had been there since 8 AM, waiting all day just to get their free burgers-for-a-year passes. Nowhere on the promotional poster did it mention that an ID would be required to claim the offer.
We were only told about the ID requirement around 11 PM—after we had already been waiting for over three hours. One of the kids even asked a staff member if a picture of his passport would be okay, and the guy working the truck said that was fine. But when we finally got inside, the person checking people in told them they wouldn’t be getting the passes because they weren’t 16.
Do people under 16 not eat?
I tried to explain how unfair this was, especially considering how long they’d been waiting. The response? “You were informed at 11.” As if finding out at 11 somehow cancels out the fact that they had been in line since 8 in the morning.
I got my passes, and that’s fine—but what happened to those kids was just plain wrong. It should have been clearly stated ahead of time that people under 16 would not be eligible. That way, they wouldn’t have wasted their entire day standing outside for nothing.
And just to be clear—I don’t even know these kids. I just felt bad for them, so I gave them two of my passes so they could at least enjoy something after everything they went through.
Even after getting your 52 passes, you can’t eat anything on-site without using one of them. So if you waited in line for hours hoping to celebrate with a burger, you have to give up one of your weekly rewards on the spot just to eat.
All in all, this was a major letdown. The customer care was nonexistent, and the lack of clear communication left a lot of people frustrated and...
