Not really sure how this place has the raving reviews it does. My best guess is because it's one of the few Japanese places in the area. I also understand everyone has their off days and sometimes things just don't workout. I can also excuse a food's quality if the price is more affordable.
All that said, this easily one of the worst meals I've had from a Japanese place in a while. I was feeling like typical hibachi food so I ordered the Ramen. DON'T GET THE RAMEN. Yes it's better than the $0.65 packets you get in the store, but not by much. Certainly not worth the $14+.
A good ramen is all about the noodles, the broth and the toppings.
The Noodles - These were honestly okay and what made it better than store bought.
The broth - It had the right consistency but lacked any real flavor. It was much more bland than I expected. It has the unctuous mouth feel but tasted more like salty liquid jello than a nice broth.
The toppings - This is where the dish failed. It came with an egg, 2 tiny pieces of "chashu" and some (what I'm guessing) boiled spinach.
The egg was way overcooked. A proper egg for ramen should be well seasoned and have a slightly molten core. Mine was well passed hardboiled to the point the core was almost green and barely dipped in soy sauce after.
The "chashu" was the right kind of meat, but not tender, nor flavorful and the portions were absolutely tiny. This should have a been a bit bigger cuts, probably slow cooked much longer so the meat was practically falling apart.
The spinach..... it was basically bland, boiled spinach. It'd be better if they at least added or replaced it with bok choy, brussel sprouts or bean sprouts.
As for what was missing, adding a little bit of corn, a bit more meat and the option for hot sesame oil would go a long way to...
Read moreI was really excited when I heard about this place opening, and I couldn't wait to try the ramen. I went during lunch the first time, and dinner the second. The lunch menu does not have ramen listed, but it did have a children's menu. The dinner menus have the ramen listed (with out subscription of what is in it), but there is no children's menu. I was also surprised to find that they didn't have a drink menu available. Our server didn't seem very knowledgeable about any of the menu options, or anything really. She even forgot about us at one point and the owner and sushi chef ended up serving our food. The pricing is about average for thus type of restaurant. I ordered the spicy chicken ramen, and it was not even close to spicy. My older son ordered the tonkatsu ramen, and he loved it. Had an issue ordering for my 2 yr old, because as I said they didn't have a children's opt-in on the dinner menu. I asked the server if we could order the kids chicken that came with the soup and rice that was offered during lunch, and they seemed clueless as to what I was asking about. They eventually got what I was asking (after asking the owner). My S.O. order 2 special rolls (shrimp tempura & I can't remember the other), and a California roll. It took so long for the sushi to come out. In fact, by the time it got to our table everyone else was almost finished eating. The sushi was okay, but we've had better at other places in town. We spent close to $70 after tip. Even though we weren't happy with the over all experience, I would like to try the hibachi eventually. We update review once we do. Unfortunately, I only have a picture of the front of...
Read moreFOOD IS MISLABELED AND WILL MAKE YOU SICK. I ordered their "special", the avocado bon bon tonight. It was listed as salmon, avocado and eel sauce. Get it and was surprised that it was smaller than I thought, but that was fine. I went to eat a bit of it and it was so spicy it tasted like someone had put a LOT of concentrated flaming hot cheeto dust all through the salmon. Im not supposed to eat spicy things per medical reasons. I immediately let the server know that it was mislabeled and, as it was extremely spicy, I could not eat it. He laughed. Not once but several times. I told him I'd need something to counteract it immediately so I ordered a roll with cream cheese in it, thinking it would help as it had immediately given me heartburn (not my medical issue btw). They never brought it. Gave us our other food (which I could barely eat bc I was growing nauseated by the minute). Finally got up to find our server who had started ignoring us and told him to forget the roll and bring the check bc I needed to leave due to feeling sick from the food given. It's almost 4 am and I still feel sick. It's REALLY made me wonder if they were trying to cover turning salmon with spicy flavoring to pass it off to customers. Spicy food never makes me ill, it just affects other issues I have. Worst experience I've ever had there. Laughed at, No management attempted to speak to me and I am still sick from ONE BITE. TERRIBLE! What's sad is that I used to like this place. Save yourself from health hazard and go...
