Modern Sports Restaurant — Restaurant in Cartersville

I had been here to Modern Sports once before and had outstanding service, good meaty wings with delicious flavors and a fair price. I've been trying to find some other wing places around to see how they compared to that experience and haven't found any. So I came back to see if they still were what I remembered...I really wanted those good flavorful meaty wings that I had previously. I ordered the wing lunch combo that has 6 wings and fries. They have several sauces and a few dry rubs to choose from. I decided to go with the Darn hot (the hottest they have and they use a different word than darn) and go with the server's suggestion of Mango Habanero. My server Kirsten was awesome! If all restaurants had a server like her....there would be zero complaints on servers. She was a grown up version of a Chick-fil-A worker. Before my tea was empty, she had me a refill sitting on the table. It took a bit to get my order since it was being made fresh. The wings apparently have lost their meatiness unfortunately and have shrunk down to what everyone else has (not as small as Zaxby's though). Although disappointed in the size, I soldiered on and tried the flavors. I was going to dig into the Mango Habanero first. The wings were hot, but the sauce was cold...not a good combo. The cold cooled the wings fast. It would definitely improved the experience if the sauce had been warmed prior to being put on the wings. They were decently covered in the sauce. Flavor...definitely good. Not much of the spicy/habanero flavor though...mostly mango. Would have been better if it had had a bit of spice. So next up was the darn hot wings. The sauce on these...warm the way it should be. Well....the bit that was there. The wings weren't covered too well with it. There was a bit of a puddle of it so I would rub the wings in it first. Definitely not darn hot. The flavor I did get was good flavor, just no spice. It was at very best medium. The fries were cooked well and had the expected flavor. I've heard that the pizza and burgers are really good and I'd like to try them. Would I return? For sure! The outstanding service that Kirsten delivers and all makes up for it. Recently my family and I stopped by for dinner while we were visiting. My family lives in downtown Cartersville and had been to Modern Sports a couple weeks prior to our evening and said they enjoyed it. This particular evening was totally different than their prior experience. Jamie was our server and to say she gave us the worst service would even be an understatement. We sat for at least ten minutes before she even took our drink order, but that’s not the bad part. While we were eating our appetizers we ran out of drinks. Four out of 7 people didn’t have anything to drink at all. Our food came and she still did not give us refills. I took our cups up to the bar as she was filling cups and asked to have a refill and she yelled at me that she had other customers to take care of. I explained we had been sitting there for 45 minutes with no refill, our food was halfway eaten (which my daughter was eating hot wings with no drink), and she continued to yell at me. She kept on even as she was taking food orders from another table. As a former server myself, she neglected us and was way out of line. I will never step foot back into this place and I will warn everyone I know. Worst...

Five of us dined, had some beers & socialized on a Saturday night. While the menu is not nearly as vast as the beer list, the food we had was very good. Two if us had the linguine with alfredo sauce; one had chicken, the other shrimp, the others a hamburger, salad & chicken wings. All but the wings were excellent but the wings. After we finished dining, our lovely , informative & polite waitress Vanna, received the update on the wings. While minor, it did discourage one in our group. Based on history with eating here, we know all issues ate quickly remedied! The dining was very casual h had no shortage of sports on the many televisions in the place. It was quiet enough for our group to hear one another as well as music , which was a great selection of tunes! And the beer menu! If you have not been here, you must go!
