The food here is absolutely the most flavorful! My husband got the goat curry, and I had the lamb chow chow soup. Plus, we ordered two different kinds of naan. Even the Robert Mondavi wine (Pinot Grigio) was very good. And the servers are so nice, and ours was great about helping us make our choices. Only suggestion I have, and this is just me, is that I could do with a little less salt in our meals.
I know very little about Nepali cuisine, but I know someone who does, and she rates this restaurant as top notch. All I can tell you is that the flavors are unbelievably wonderful, and the people are oh so nice.
Update: during the pandemic, we now get takeout from the Himalayan Range. Every time, the food is 100% perfection. We have tried other restaurants that offer similar cuisine, that are more convenient to us. None measure up! Wish we could get delivery to our southwest Raleigh address. Or maybe not--as it would be tempting to order from here almost every day!
Our favorites: veg, chicken, and lamb (we like all three equally) Chow-Chow, goat curry, and Himalayan chicken. We've started getting mild spicy at this restaurant, and we're not afraid of heat (medium spicy here is like a level 10 at some restaurants). The flavors are just too wonderful to miss out on with too much heat. And our absolute favorite treat--the vegetable pakoras! Last time we got four orders just for the two of us, as they freeze well, as long as you reheat them fairly soon. Hubs really enjoys the Peshwari naan, that works well as a dessert, or a tasty breakfast item the next morning--if you have any...
Read moreOut of the ashes of the post-pandemic gastronomic ennui rises Himalayan Nepali Range, a tucked away and altogether unassuming Nepalese restaurant which humbly presents itself to passersby with a small but striking Nepalese flag and old school school strip mall signage. Inside, one is reminded of a low budget Wes Anderson set sparsely decorated with hanging pendant lights and scattered images of … Himalayan ranges, and the attentive service of the staff here could land each employee, from cook to host to server, at the Grand Budapest. As inviting and simple as the atmosphere here is, one would expect an equally simple menu. But just as the intimidating slopes of Everest open unto the Nepalese valleys below, ones palate opens to the idea of an extravagant and diverse menu. There are options for those new to Nepali cuisine - chicken fried rice, butter chicken (YES), samosas, naan. But also, those more willing to explore new slopes of deglutition will be happy to see some more idiosyncratic faces on the menu - bhindi masala which is especially good after a hard day of work, creamy and filling korma, divine Goat Thali, and my personal favorite - the Thai Coconut Chicken Curry.
Isn’t it funny how, if you squint from far away, that small Nepalese flag in the window looks kind of like a...
Read moreI phone ordered a chicken tikka masala and chicken biriyani. You can look me up on your order Friday night 10/8 (Martin) to verify the authenticity of the review. What I received was butter chicken. Owner comments below says this is in fact chicken tikka masala. I have eaten both dishes several times to know enough to differentiate butter chicken from chicken tikka masala. But I am willing to forego this butter chicken vs chicken tikka debate.
But what brought me to write this review is the quality of food. The amount of food color that is added to the chicken dish is outrageous. The photo attached doesn't do a good job at describing the color. The actual color was pink. Why would you add tons of food color to a dish which is naturally colored with turmeric and chilli peppers. ? The photograph is taken with flash hence the true PINK color of the dish is lost. Pls do not use food coloring in your dishes. I am sure your customers would appreciate a dish which may look less appealing color wise but safer to eat.
Food color is also added to Chicken Biriyani basmati rice. Not too worried about it since its used sparingly.
I know this restaurant have great reviews and that's what brought me to order from here. But I am done, will...
