This used to be my favorite of Midwestern sushi. Quality of the fish is still very good. However, the flavors on this visit were nothing like they used to be. We came here mostly for the unagi sauce on the caterpillar rolls, the Alaska roll, and the beef yakitori. Firstly, the rice had a very subtle hint that it was left over from lunch. I could taste a bit of grocery store sushi in the rice. The unagi sauce had half the flavor it normally does and the yakitori was far worse. The flavor of both the meat and the typically flavorful peanut sauce was minimal to nonexistent. The meat was so tough that it was very difficult to get off the stick or chew and the marinade that's usually dripping off it was barely noticeable. The Alaska roll, which typically has very thin, refreshing slices of lemon, now had much thicker slices that made the roll very sour. It was still good but for the price and the expectation we have come to have for this restaurant, incredibly disappointing. We were told by the waitress that there are new owners, perhaps that is the issue. The waitstaff as well were good enough, but we suspect they are judging a lot of books by their cover. Since we had house cleaning clothes on, we did not look our best, but we noticed that as soon as we pulled out the wad of cash from which we were paying, we suddenly got offered water 4 more times and desert twice. Overall, great quality fish paired with disappointing rice and sauces, yakitori that was barely edible, and a waitstaff who only care if you flash them a wad of cash.
I can't be mad, just sad and disappointed. The only up side of this visit, is that now I won't have to debate which sushi restaurant I go to in Casper; the cheaper one has the same flavors and better rice, so I'll be 100% loyal to them from now on. House of Sushi just lost two...
Read moreJust went in at 12:30 pm on 2/8/2019. Ordered a Sushi Roll and two orders of Teriyaki Shrimp. The Restaurant was so cold even the sushi chef was wearing a jacket. We told them it was cold(So Cold I have a $400 North Face Jacket and a Scarf and I was Cold), and our server shrugged it off like "Who Cares". Then when we got our food the Shrimp was so fishy, it was obviously spoiled, So we told the server, who already made us feel awkward about the temp of the restaurant. Another guy walked up and the just looked at my wife and I for a minute without speaking, reluctantly took our plates, then looked offended! Yes you heard that right, they looked offended and we are the ones who got bad food. They said they could give us a credit! LMFAO a credit? I wanted to just leave, my appetite was ruined. They finally said they'd comp our meals, but we got up and left our food. Threw them 5 bucks for the drinks, and we left apologizing because they acted like we were trying to rip them off or something. We each had one bite of shrimp, one bite of sushi, a half glass of Dr. Pepper. And they made us feel like we were in the wrong. You guys have lost these customers for life. If you plan on staying open, I'd recommend making sure that you have fresh ingredients that aren't spoiled and treating your customers...
Read moreFirst off, this is Wyoming. So if you're expecting high quality (or even moderate quality) sushi you're in for a disappointment. I was traveling through Casper and had a sushi craving so I Google'd sushi places and this one had the best reviews so I decided to try it. I ordered the sushi deluxe platter which was some nigiri, a tuna roll, and a spicy salmon roll (I upgraded for it). Overall, the fish didn't taste fresh at all and it was only marginally eatable. Probably my biggest complaint was that it had a slight freezer burn flavor to it. This of course is somewhat expected given that they have to source their fish from Colorado which sources it from other places so by the time it gets to Casper it's probably 5-6+ days old and frozen. But that still doesn't take away the bad taste.
So overall the quality of the raw sushi is low. If you like cooked entrees that might be the better call here. The one positive about this place is that it has a nice ambiance inside. While I wouldn't recommend it for the sushi, if you're desperate and needing a fix you can try it. Just don't go in with high...
