I had not eaten food from here in quite sometime. As a result I had forgotten how good it is. A fair value too although some restaurants give you both an egg roll and small soup with their dinner combo. At Wah Yoan you will simply get the egg roll but it's a darn good one! Many places try to slip you a spring roll or an emaciated egg roll but not here.
On my recent visit I simply did General Tso's. Huge serving in a lighter colored sauce than some places but just right and with the token addition of a few pieces of nicely steamed broccoli. I go for steamed rice rather than fried so I'll get back to you on the latter next time. I also had some wonton soup and fried dumplings. Both tasty but not extraordinary. The soup broth is slightly on the lighter side flavor wise. My only minimal complaint is that the egg roll could have been drained more thoroughly after its dip in the fryer! I like when take out Chinese restaurants even put a paper towel in the egg roll bag to absorb extra grease but that is not the case at Wah Yoan.
Overall, really good for New York style Chinese takeout. One question though, why does no one seem to make fresh fried/dried noodles anymore? The airy type that are more soft and more like the outside of a good egg roll. Everywhere you go these days they are stale, hard, and like those you find in a can in the...
Read moreTo protect themselves from COVID-19 they made a vinyl tunnel from the front door to the counter which is sealed on top and on the sides and in front where it meets the counter.. No air circulation -potentially very infectious. They give you your order through a double plastic slide through. The "tunnel is as wide as the entrance door , and is about 7ft high. I told an employee that this is very unsafe for his customers. He blew me off. I know enough about infection control to know this is a place where the virus could linger in the air. There are other Chinese restaurants close by that are clean and safe.
I drove by a week after I wrote the above review. I now notice an improvement. The distance from the door to the food -money exchange counter has been moved forward, so that the length of the tunnel is shorter which is of course safer for the customer in that there is more air circulation when the entrance door is opened. Still not as safe as an open lobby with air circulation. One week later: BIG IMPROVEMENT!! Inside walkway has been shortened considerably and the entrance door is kept open during business hours. I think I will...
Read moreFinding authentic Chinese food in Florida has been a challenge ever since I moved here from New York three years ago. For the longest time, it felt almost impossible, until my friends and I stumbled upon this place. What a revelation.
This spot delivers the kind of flavor and authenticity that instantly transported me back to the chinos in New York City. Every bite had that unmistakable taste I’ve been craving for years. It’s the kind of food that makes you stop mid-bite and smile, because you know you’ve finally found the real thing.
Frankly, this restaurant deserves so much more attention. If one of those viral TikTok food creators ever put the spotlight on it, the line out the door would be endless. One word sums it up: incredible.
If you miss New York Chinese food, this is the closest thing you’ll find to being back home. And if you love it like I did, do them a favor, leave a review and spread the word. This place is...
