This place is usually my go-to when I crave sushi or bbq. I have been here a couple times and every time it's been great. I decided to go eat here after I get off of work. My girlfriend and I get to the restaurant a little after 8 pm and they tell us that there is a wait. We understand since its a Saturday. So we leave our name on the wait list. After about 30 minutes of waiting, we get our table. Our waiter (idk what his name even is) says he is busy so he takes our drink order. It takes him a good while to get a beer and hot sake for us, but we didn't rush him since we understand it's busy. When he brings our drinks, we order everything we were going to eat right away so he doesn't have to make multiple trips. We finished ordering before 9 pm. For the next hour, we have to wait anywhere from 10-20 minutes for parts of our order to come out. Keep in mind, we have to wait for parts of our order while the table next to us (which was sat after we did) got their whole order (sushi, bbq, etc) and they finished their dinner with no problems. We are still sitting there waiting and when it is about 9:45 pm, the waiter finally brings out our oysters and 1 sushi roll. This is while tables all over the restaurant have been getting served and their food brought to their tables even though they came in long after we did. The waiter finally brings out the rest of our order at 10:07 when another table next to us (that just sat down within 20 min) gets all of their food. At this point, my girlfriend and I are wondering why the hell it took so long for our food to come out when we ordered before 9 pm. I ask to talk to a manager and he is as nice as can be, but he says that it was busy and that's why our food came out so late. I bring up that we ordered before 9 pm and he sits there and realizes that we have been sitting there for a whole hour plus before we finally get our food. While I'm talking to the manager, the waiter finally decides to come around and check if we need more water or if we need anything else. The manager wanted to let us know that he just wants us to be happy with our experience, but at this point, we just want to leave. We aren't in any mood to eat anymore. I love this place. The food is always amazing, but the server we were assigned to was the worst. I was literally watching other tables be served with anything and everything while my girlfriend and I just sat there and waited. I will still come back, but I will definitely be choosing who would serve us at least. I know that there is one amazing waiter, but I was unfortunate enough to not get him. I would literally be fine with anybody, but there should be no reason that I should be made to wait over an hour for my food when other tables who came in 30+ minutes after us are getting all of their order when they say that "we are super busy and lots of people's orders are being delayed". So all in all, food was good (the part that we managed to eat before we decided enough was enough) and the manager was nice. The waiting was terrible and the server was...
Read moreThis was my first time coming here, so my opinion might change later on. My husband and I recently moved from California and we have spent the last 5 months trying to find a sushi place that holds up to our (ok my) standards. This will be the 5th place I've tried here and I think I've found a winner. I HATE krab stick and can't have raw fish due to medical reasons. Trying to find a place that uses krab salad in their California roll is really hard. Sushishima uses krab stick for the Cali but uses krab salad for other rolls that don't contain raw ingredients. I ordered the Rock & Roll sushi roll which is Tempure Shrimp, Avocado, Cucumber, and Krab Salad topped with Masago (which I asked for none as it is raw) and eel sauce (which I did have to verify because on the menu it does not say it is the sauce so I assumed it was eel itself). When the waiter brought it out he set it down and then noticed it had sauce and that I had asked for none, Apologized (without me having to say anything, I'd have sacked it up even though I really don't like the sauce) and took it back without prompting. My roll was replaced quickly with a sauce free roll and it was amazing. They put 2 (TWO!) Tempura shrimp in my roll when most places seem to try and skimp with a tiny one. I also ordered the miso soup, which, I have had better but it was still good (filled with tofu and seaweed) and this is mostly about the sushi anyways. Will definitely be bringing my husband here and trying other rolls and dishes they have to offer. So glad I...
Read moreI've been here twice, once with my great aunt, grandma, and sister, and the second time today with my mom, dad brother and sister. This review is long overdue. The first time we were stead in the entrance area in a clean booth. The area is modern, but is beautifully decorated with traditional Japanese art. They even have katanas on the wall! We were seated immediately and attended minutes later. Our waiter was Ernest. He is THE coolest guy ever!!!He is exceptionally sweet, and he was very patient with us since my aunt and grandma knew little English. Whenever we needed something he would always stop by; he is SUPER. The food, is honestly in my opinion the best sushi in San Antonio. It's extremely fresh, and my brother who's picky about tuna, ate his nigiri (the sushi plate that has fish on top of rice) plate in like 30 seconds. Through the two visits we ordered the cucumber eel roll, which was slightly addicting, the King Unagi Roll, which also had eel, (It was AWESOME the eel had a good crunch and sweetness with the sauce), the miso soups, which were very filling, the Rainbow Roll, which was honestly spectacular how they really incorporated two or more types of fish, and the unagi don, which had white rice that was just the right amount of sticky. Anyways, basically the food was a 10, the atmosphere an 11, and the service, well...
On our way out the second time, Ernest gave me a to go bag full of 2 orders of gyoza appetizers because he knew my grandma loved them. For free. So ya.
THANK YOU...
