George's Local is a unique dining experience in Cedar Falls, IA. The outdoor patio with it's fire pits is a one off for Cedar Falls. The food and staff were both amazing! I had the Beast Burger and Kettle Chips. The burger was so juice and flavorful, cooked to perfection Leah had the Truffle Fries, OMG they were AWESOME!!!! The food they were carrying out to the tables around us looked amazing. We will definitely be regulars here. Check George's Local out for yourself, you won't be disappointed. UPDATE: January 7, 2024, well everyone has a bad day once in a while. Today we had the worst experience at George's Local. We went in with high expectations from our last visit. Today was a major let down. The waitress was terrible. Took our order, then vanished. We had our food pretty quick as they were not that busy. I had the biscuits and gravy, and I was not impressed. My food was cold, minimal gravy and biscuits were hard and dry. My spouse had the same thing she had last time, and it was cold as well. The overall food was not even close or comparable to our last visit. We finished and waited, waited and finally flagged down the manager for our check. She got our waitress and she put it on the table, turned around and my spouse said excusse me can we pay you at the table or do we need to go to the register. She acted inconvenienced but took our card and drop it off on the table and disappeared again. We got up and on our way out found our waitress sitting in the window near the door looking at her phone. Probably where she was while our food was getting cold in the kitchen. Probably where she was while our glasses sat empty with nothing to drink. So frustrating when you go out to eat and the help is sitting there looking at their phones on social media. We likely will not go back for a long time if ever. Poor servers and wait-staff will spoil the customer experience and can ruin the business for the owner(s). Hopefully the owner and management address this situation before it ruins their business. My reviews are honest and do not pull punches. Like it our not sometimes the truth hurts. UPDATE 6/6 and 6/7/2025: George's Local redemption achieved the past two evenings. We met friends from. Chicago and Nashville here on both Friday and Saturday night had both excellent food and service both nights!!! We hadn't been back since our experience on January 7, 2025. Like I said in that review everyone/everyplace has a bad day or night. The experience the past two days was total redemption for George's Local. They will be back on our list of local favorite places to eat again!!! From the burgers, to Buffalo Chicken Mac and Cheese, to the Flatbread, to Shrimp Tacos, it was all 5 stars in flavor and presentation. The owners also own Patton's Dinner across the street. Patton's offers a unique experience and food as well. Give them both a try. UPDATE - 6/10/2025: Had a business lunch here today with four others. We sat on the patio and had good service and...
Read moreFirst of all I NEVER leave reviews so obviously this is important to me. I rarely do sit down lunches but I was with my adult son and thought it would be fun. Food was delicious. The cheese curds were the BEST I’ve ever eaten. My Reuben was odd: roast beef instead of corned beef (although the roast beef was melt in your mouth delightful without a speck of fat 🥰), a teeny bit of sauerkraut (unheard of!) and NO thousand island dressing! The waitress was confused when I asked for some dressing in a side container 🙄 If I had wanted a roast beef and cheese sandwich it would’ve been sheer perfection. Now onto things making this review negative: the waitress didn’t know if they had NA beer so she had to run and ask. Ok fine. I ordered a Sam Adam’s IP: it was delivered barely above room temperature—in a can. No glass (gross—never ever drink from a can in a restaurant since you don’t know if they wipe the tops completely clean before serving). I asked for a frosty mug to pour the beer into. NA beer is very bitter if it’s not cold. She comes back—no frosty mugs (what Iowa restaurant/bar doesn’t have frosty mugs?!). So I had to send her BACK to AT LEAST get a glass to drink the beer from 🤦🏼♀️ So right out of the gate bar service was slow. Shortly after the meal was delivered my son ordered an Old Fashioned. It took sooo long that the drink didn’t arrive until our meal was FINISHED. I was ready to leave but he said to give it another 5-10 minutes. He’d been really looking forward to it. So we sat there for some more time 🤷🏼♀️ That makes the bar service unacceptable. There were only 3 tables of occupied inside the restaurant for Pete’s sake. There were numerous workers (who spent plenty of time talking to each other) and it wasn’t even close to being busy. Now onto the most EGREGIOUS thing I’ve ever experienced in any restaurant in all the many years I’ve eaten out. They have patio or indoor dining. It’s Iowa humid summertime so I wanted a cool ac interior, no big deal. And MAYBE they have ac but it was hard to tell. They left the door to the outside COMPLETELY OPEN!! It appeared to be left open for the convenience of the waitstaff ferrying food and drinks to the patio. They didn’t bother to have the overhead fans going inside at all 😳🙄 So while I can live with all that it was the FLIES that wouldn’t leave us alone which ruined the entire experience. We were constantly swatting them away, off our arms and shoulders, they were landing on our legs under the table and at one point I saw one land on a plate (but not the food so maybe that made it okay 🤔). Circling back to the overhead fans not operating—if they’d been spinning I believe it could’ve made a difference. I honestly should have refused to pay the bill but I’m Iowa nice through and through. I’m NOT Iowa nice enough to not leave a scathing...
Read moreWe stopped here for lunch and got the brussel sprouts for an appetizer. I ordered the Cobb salad and my friend ordered the house flatbread. Initially the experience started out very good. The waitress was nice, took our drink order. However, from there, it started to go downhill. The waitress took our appetizer order, then proceeded to ask us how the Brussels were 30 seconds after they came to the table. We then ordered our entrees. Again, she asked how our food was 30 seconds after our food came. I had requested an extra side of ranch for my salad as the one that came with it was very small for a full size salad. It never came and the waitress stopped coming to check on us . After about 15 minutes of waiting, we starting trying to flag down our waitress with very little success. It took us about 7 minutes to finally get her attention. I waited another 10 minutes for the side of ranch. She only asked about drinks once and only refilled out water once, when requested it and only my friends water as she was the one that asked. And just as reference, the waitress only had 6 tables, all with 2 people so it wasn't like she was slammed busy. The brussels were good, with just a bit of heat. The flatbread was mediocre at best. It looked like frozen preformed dough, tiny amount of sauce and looked like cheese slices on the top. The salad was good sized but the crispy chicken was sparse and very dry. It looked like it had been sitting under a heat lamp all day. The cucumber slices were so thin you could literally see through them. The other toppings were sparse as well. Overall, I was not, sm not impressed with this place. The service was poor, the food was mediocre at best, and the drinks overpriced for what you get. I don't mind paying 10 bucks for a margarita but expect more than an 8 or 10 ounce glass full of ice. I will not be frequenting this establishment due to the poor service, high prices of mediocre food and over priced drinks. I would not recommend this place when right across the street is a much better place for food, whiskey river which I do frequent when I'm in the area. Or up the...
