I had my first Hurts Donut on November 22, 2019. I picked the Cookie Monster donut. The visual presentation brought back fond memories from my childhood. This donut was a near perfect replication of my favorite Sesame Street character (other than color). This donut is electric blue, has big eyes, and oreos on the lower half. The smell of this donut is intoxicating. It is a combination of sugar, grease and chemicals. The smell was so sweet, I started to go into a diabetic coma, and I don't even have diabetes... yet. If I keep eating Hurts Donuts, it won't take long. The greasy smell made my chest hurt. My arteries started to clog as soon as I had my first smell. Before I took my first bite, I popped a nitroglycerin pill as a precautionary measure. The first bite of donut was exactly as I thought it would be. I could feel the sugar rushing through my veins. I swear, with the sugar dump, I felt like I could run a marathon if not for the chest pain. The texture of the donut was divine. My body started to shake, my heart started to race, and my mind got foggy. I felt like I was having an out of body experience. I assume this feeling is exactly what Heaven would feel like. I have never felt such euphoria. The donut didn't last long. The delectable concoction of sugar, grease and chemicals tickled my tastebuds. I have never tasted a more delicious confection. I was instantly addicted to Hurts Donuts. But, there's more. Hurts Donuts stays with you for days. You are reminded of it everytime you visit the restroom. For the next 3 days, I turned the toilet water green. There was so much food coloring, it turned the inside of the toilet bowl the color of beautiful Easter eggs. Bleach, Ajax, and Clorox were unable to turn my toilet back to its original white porcelain color. In conclusion, I have never had such a...

Every time my nephew comes to visit we often make a late night trip to Hurts for donut holes. There is one lady in particular who delights in ruining this child’s day. Any other worker is glad to help and provide what we ask for but every time we visit she insists she cannot sell us the donut holes because “if I wouldn’t eat them, I can’t sell them to you! They’re a day old!” Now first of all we often buy our donuts and eat them over a series of days so I’m not worried about one day old donut holes, but she is acting like they weren’t made 12 hours ago. I spoke to the owner or manager after one incident and she explained to me that if the donuts are in the case they are available for sale and that the first thing workers should be doing when they arrive is disposing of inedible food from the case. Every time this lady insists they are not good, this last time I asked her if I could see one, she handed it to me and we both thought it was fine, she still refused to sell them to us. After telling her what the manager had told us she stared me in the eyes pulled the tray out and started throwing it all away. Worst service I’ve ever received and it all started when my fiancé and I started coming in together with my nephew, totally homophobic response and horrible...

Four different Saturday nights I have stopped by and tried to get a shake I have been told they are out of ice cream. Same woman working every time. I made sure to call at 9:57 pm and asked if they still make shakes this late, a younger woman answered and said yes, so I asked do you still have ice cream? She said yes. I drove all the way to the location and when I got there at 10:30 she immediately told me they had no ice cream. I told her I just called and she got an attitude with me and said she had been there 45 minutes and hadn’t gotten a phone call. I showed her I called at 9:57 and was told they did have ice cream. She told me her coworker she took over for had been sitting on the counter and wasn’t doing her job so she didn’t know what she was talking about. Overall super unprofessional and I felt like she lies about having ice cream so she doesn’t have to make shakes. update I called this morning three times from my phone and it wouldn’t go through. I then used my boyfriend’s phone because that worker blocked my number and when someone answered I asked if they had ice cream. Was immediately told yes they have ice cream. She lied about ice cream and was very rude and unprofessional and then blocked my phone number so I couldn’t call and...

First of all, and most important ... the donuts are FRESH. We live in Ankeny, but travel LOTS, and whenever we are in Cedar Falls, we stop at Hurts Donuts at 100 E. 2nd Street. I'm attaching a pic, since there is no way for me to described in words the variety of donuts and pastries they carry. If you want to dine in, there are a few tables inside, and there is also a nice green space owned by the city that is nice to hang out by outside. And, here's a tip. If you're like us and had just finished a huge meal on the Parkade you may not feel like eating the donut just yet. If you're faced with a near 2 hr trip home in the car on an afternoon with high's in the low 90's ... do what we do. Bring along a small cooler when you leave the house in the morning, put just a bit of ice in the bottom (no need to load it up) and when you come out of Hurts Donuts, place the donuts in plastic zip lock baggies atop the ice (preferably in a tray) and drive home. Fresh as ever when you get home, without that mushy/melty issue. Here's a pic of the inside and of my "Homer" donut.

I’ve never been a donut guy. Just sugar and bread dumped in the body. Nothing of substance just filler. Kind of like todays America. I rolled in to Hurts at 3:30 am by chance as I just happened to ride by on a nite bicycle ride. I hadn’t had a donut in at least a decade but was told things have changed in the donut world. Well you name it and it’s probably been on a donut. The donuts are much bigger than I remember with a cost correlation. They had a nice variety to choose from with some nice flavor combinations and I ended up getting more than “a” donut and rode home with a dozen. Stop on down sometime and try or get some donuts the world going to hell in a hand basket anyway. Enjoy!

After hearing that Hurts Donut "was all that", my wife and I decided to give them a try. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by the staff and they were quite polite and helpful. We bought a raspberry bismark, the Cookie Monster, Starry Night, the Brownie, and 2 Peanut Butter Oreo. While they're good, Hy-Vee's donuts are better in quality, taste, and freshness. Sure you may get more "novelty" flavors here, but you're also paying a premium for them, $12 for just a half dozen. If you live downtown, it's a lot more convenient to buy from them instead of wasting the time and gas driving to Hy-Vee. The picture shows The Brownie on the left and Peanut Butter Oreo on the right.
