If you read any of my other reviews you'll see that I don't just write complaints. But I DO give honest assessments of restaurants to help others decide if they want to try a place. That being said, I definitely don't recommend Los Cabos. We went based on a suggestion from someone who lives in the area who said it was their favorite place for Mexican. From the moment the server brought the chips and salsa I was skeptical. The chips were definitely not fresh, just the generic bagged kind and the salsa was thin, had barely any tomato or onion, and was too spicy for my wife. The menu was pretty basic but many of the items that looked like I might want to try were priced higher than I wanted to spend. I chose the sofritos (I think that's how it was spelled) with shredded beef. The beef was basically pot roast without much seasoning. They weren't terrible, but nothing I'd choose to get again. The Mexican rice was bland. And the refried beans tasted straight out of a can and way too salty. My wife had the ground beef tacos and they were just plain ground beef without any seasoning. And her assessment of the rice and beans was the same as mine. I that, when it comes to Mexican food, I'm a bit of a purist. I've studyed and been cooking Mexican for years. Wife and I had the same thing to say about Los Cabos: the food was more focused on the basic American palate. I should have stuck with my old favorite La Placita in Waterloo. That place...
Read moreWe went here today after university graduation, EIGHT of us, on a day where there was also some type of music festival going on in the area. This restaurant is fairly small, but impeccably clean, beautifully decorated, and top-notch service. The place was packed, and they were clearly surprised by how busy they were - only 2 servers on schedule - yet they managed to seat our party of 8 and provide beverages, chips and salsa, very quickly. There may have been a bit of a delay in taking our food orders, but we were enjoying our conversations and reading the extensive menu and didn't really notice. The food came quickly and was DELICIOUS. Everyone had something different and felt impressed with their choices. The salsa had lovely flavor, perfect degree of "heat", each meal was beautifully presented, piping hot plates, and very plentiful. We were pleasantly "stuffed"! Three of our party got Margaritas, and felt that they were yummy, but "could have been stronger". It was our daughter's graduation, so we paid the entire bill. Eight adults, plentiful, delicious food, three margaritas, and the entire bill (before tip) was less than $200. We were extremely impressed by the entire experience. Five out of...
Read moreMy husband and I went there for our Anniversary, for the First & Last time. The atmosphere and decor were very pleasant. That was the Only thing we liked! Our waitress was not helpful with any questions we had. Our Margaritas tasted like colored water on ice. I ordered the Shrimp Chimichanga. It was ok, but I always had them crispy anywhere else, not here, soft and bland. My husband ordered 3 different types of tacos. He found a Full Sized Jalapeno Pepper in one of them. He was obviously not happy. He mentioned it to the waitress and she said yes, it supposed to be in the dish! She never asked if we wanted more drinks and it was Happy Hour. Definitely do not Recommend and we will never go...
