Dicks Uptown Cafe — Restaurant in Cedar Hill

Sadly, this used to be one of my favorite places to go but they have gone down hill over the last 4-5 years. I needed a place to grab a quick bite to eat today but I was not welcome. I came with my 15 month old because I needed a place that sold food soft enough for a baby to chew.

Unfortunately they have a new rule, new to me since I don’t come often anymore, that states no dine in seating after 1:30pm. So they are basically closed at 1:30pm which is not stated on their hours when you do a Google search.

I was not aware of this so I drove all the way out here from Midlothian just to eat. Bad choice on my part because I wasn’t aware of the change. They definitely want to get out right at 2pm which is why I suspect they changed from only being open until 1:30pm. I walked in at 1:35pm and was quickly turned away. How awful of a person must you be to turn a mother with a small child away. They should be ashamed of themselves.

I will never come to this place again. Like I said before, the food is not as good as before. Bread, biscuits are usually very dry like they’ve been sitting under a heat lamp for hours. The potatoes are also usually very dry as well. Big disappointment for a person who used to come here at least once a week or more with my small children. I can’t recommend this place anymore....

Perfect name for this place! Absolute worse place to go to. Visiting from out of town and had our hearts set on a good homecooked breakfast. We waited in line for 15 to place our order, Then waited another hour and still did not receive our food. We brought it to the waitress attention and she said it was the next one up. Waited another 15 min and still no food. Brought it to a different waiters attention and he said they have no order when selecting tickets to cook and he would personally bring our food. Waited another 15 min and waiter came back and said they couldn't even find our ticket! Hour and half later still sitting there. No manager or owner came to apologize, offer a discount or anything. We demanded a refund and they were quick to give it to us and let us be on our way. I have never written a review about any place but this was the worst experience I have ever had. Do not go eat at this place! They say they have been in business 40 years but i dont see how with such horrible service! We ended up going to ihop down the street and got a better deal. Save your time and go...

NOT the same owners, quality of food nor is service the same. Realized something was up 7-8 mos ago when kept sending food back due to wrong food order or not cooked as requested or downright poorly cooked. Now I know why. Terrill, former owner was training new owner- cooks to take over then.

The quality of food/service given over past years WAS wonderful and consistent. Went today and like a different venue - pancakes thin, small and rubbery - in past light, fluffy, huge. Meat tasted like McDonald’s sausage patty - not real meat- awful. Egg cooked ok.

No more higher quality coffee variety. No more ordering at counter - waitress comes to table which is ok but it’s just NOT that homey feel anymore nor good food. What a shame when this place was set up for greatness and good customers. Good luck on your visit! Good-bye to all the friends I met and dined here with over the years. Definitely goodbye to subpar food at much...
