Chicken is a great meat to work with because it's ordinarially bland which is why so many things taste like chicken, but it offers the cook the opportunity to build unique flavors that taste special, like here at Tumble22. Chicken is a southern delicacy that easily takes on the flavors of its seasonings and the character of its cooking. That's why we have so many great chicken places here in Cedar Park. If you make bland chicken you probably flunked cooking school. I think that's what happened to the former Zaxby's. To me, their chicken tasted like "nothing with salt".
I ordered the Tumble22 whole fried chicken and it totally reminded me of grandma's home cooking. And it made my house smell good when I brought it home. These are large pieces cooked dark and well seasoned. Remember when Covid chicken looked like a Cornish hen? Tumble22 is so over that. Some places send out lightly fried yellow tiny bits of chicken that look and taste rushed out of the kitchen. Tumble22 chicken is dark, crunchy, warm, juicy and so tasty, and you can get it seasoned anywhere between mild and extra hot. Pieces are extra large so bring plenty of appetite.
A single order of fries is two helpings and they are seasoned perfectly. You won't need to add anything to these and you might not even use catsup. I ordered some chicken bits and they are large chunks of white meat and very tasty, although not fried as dark as the bone in chicken. Get the ranch sauce with these.
I ordered a buttermilk (custard) pie and pecan pie. Both were large slices that are great for sharing. I wasn't happy with the pecan pie. I was not expecting chocolate chips. Pecan pie is sweet enough to begin with. Chocolate masks the flavor of the pecan which is a shame because it's supposed to be a Pecan Pie, not a chocolate chip cookie. But that's a matter of taste on my part so don't let my opinion scare you off. The buttermilk pie was great! The pie crust is cooked fully on the bottom which is nice attention to detail. A lot of places mess that up.
No shop is perfect. I didn't like the potato salad very much as the potatoes were grainy and over-cooked and the flavor a bit too much on the pickle and onion for me. The macaroni and cheese are probably best for the kids. I really like mac & cheese and some shops do a great job on this, but maybe order that elsewhere if you...
Read moreThe service here is horrid! The food is decent but every single time we’ve come here the service has been absolutely horrible! What’s worse if they have only been horrible when I bring my Hispanic mother (I look Irish, and am bi-racial). Just me and some friends and the service is decent but every single time I have brought my Hispanic mother they’ve been rude, to her specifically! We came with a big group one time and she got the Cobb salad with no dressing and wimpy chicken, she was given it with extra dressing and stupid hot chicken. She asked them to remake it and it took them A WHOLE FREAKING HOUR AND A HALF to remake her SALAD! what’s worse is they wanted to take the salad back and still charge her for two salads cuz she had one bite of the lettuce hoping maybe it’s not as spicy as they say. The waitress was rolling her eyes at my mom as she told them they made it wrong and we had to bring the manager out to sort it out who didn’t give any sort of discount or apology for the screw up or the ridiculous wait time. Note, everyone else’s food was ready except hers so we all gave her a little bit of our food as she waited and everyone had finished by the time she got her salad. Skip to three days ago and I take her to lunch and the waiter won’t make freaking eye contact with HER! He’s was rude the whole time, came to us once to refill water and almost spilled the cup when he put it on the table. Note, he has tables next to us and he’s making polite chitchat and checking on them often. Then when he starts walking up the aisle im between tables to our booth he (im not exaggerating) like, looked at the roof as he passed us and didn’t ask if we needed anything. We had to ask another waiter if he could get our check because we sat there for 45 minutes waiting after we finished eating. Then our waiter comes back and literally says “boxes?” With an eye roll. I am done and I am never coming back here. Id say that both servers we got were racist, and...
Read moreCame in for a quick meal while holiday shopping and was greeted at the wait area by the manager with no issues.
We asked for a booth he cleaned the table and we were seated. we grabbed a booster seat and he recommend a table lower so our baby would be closer to us which was great.
The experience went down from there. We waited around 20 minutes and no one talked to us even though our waiter (and others walked by multiple times) after I went up to the manager our waiter finally came by
(he walked past us earlier three times and did not ask us if we needed anything)
He said oh I thought you were take out and I didn’t see menus what do you need? No real apology and did not seem like he cared or wanted us to be there.
We ordered a couple of drinks and he came back and took the order. Again we sat there for another 40 minutes and no one came in to check on us.
Our waiter was working the bar and did not come back to check in on food or drinks.
At this point we left since it was clear this waiter did not want to help us and did not care about our order or experience which is disappointing since I have praised this place since it was a food truck downtown and have taken family and friends to multiple locations to experience.
While we walked out one of the female waiters who walked past us multiple times gave us a look and then our waiter ran out demanding we get inside to pay for our drinks coming towards our car. I explained I would come in and speak to the manager.
The manager removed the drink charges due to the mistakes and allows us to leave but that doesn’t really fix the issues with the employees.
We came to have a nice meal not sit around being ignored for an hour. This was one of my favorite places to go but seems like it’s all about to go orders and getting as much money out the door as quick...
