Have been to both locations. Few times at the old. Once here. We had a post holiday family friend dinner. Charming atmosphere. Charming staff.
Tried the scampi on a whim. Rather than chicken parm. It wasn’t what I expected. But it was okay. My preference is the tail shell is removed. As I didn’t wanna use my fingers. Or bite properly to remove the inch of shrimp buried within the half dozen pieces.
A comment at the table about the tomato basil soup, it wasn’t as good as the norm. I suggested it might be less thick due to being freshly made as they probably ran out. But can’t say for sure. The Italian style minestrone is delicious.
I had similar experience with the scampi sauce being thin. But, no comparison. As it is the first time trying this.
A garlic butter scampi sauce on linguine or fettuccine with completely peeled shrimp would score five stars potentially. Or, a 1/4 cup more pasta with less crème sauce being thicker and fresh garlic crushed/infused could help the flavor. Not sure if it’s made to order or has a chance to rest in a batch each night waiting for service.
This said, scoping everyone’s plate, looked great. Not ordering scampi again. But, would definitely return for a meal with friends.
The cannoli was okay. For Iowa, exceptional. 10 stars. Growing up on these from NY commend the baker for doing this well here. Shell is al dente. Perfect texture and crunch. The filling is mild and tastes more ricotta than sweet. The creamy consistency is perfect throughout. Just the right about of chips, for me. The flavor is growing on me. Hadn’t stopped thinking of it since having mine. As I’m accustomed to a sweeter taste and texture on the coast. It’s always my go to when visiting. Get a dozen mini every visit. When craving will stop by for a box of cannolis :)
Overall experience is a win.
Wasn’t taking photos this evening. For imagination purposes, have you seen high end restaurants plate service ever? Similar style white plates. Everything looks as though it is placed with intention on the plates. It’s served similarly. With great care.
If you’re looking for a romantic atmosphere, a place to celebrate an occasion, or hang with people you enjoy. This could be your new favorite place. As it for my friends. I’m fortunate enough to join every so often.
Well done over all...
Read moreOur party arrived at lunchtime. We were greeted and waited on by Addie, who arrived with waters, bread & oil, and menus stat.
I asked her for her opinion on what to order and decided on the Chicken Marsala with gluten-free noodles. She was also able to do Chicken Scampi, tho It wasn't on the menu.
We ordered 3 entrées (which come with an option of a cup of minestrone soup, a cup of tomato basil soup, or small mixed greens salad, so we opted for 1 of each)
The bread and oil is the best thing this resturanunt serves. It is worth coming back for. 5/5
The salad arrived with ONLY iceberg lettuce, no mixed greens, a single grape tomato, 2 cucumber slices, and a cup of low-end croutons. 1/5
The tomato basil soup was amazing. 5/5
The minestrone soup was made to go, and we learned when we got home that we never received it. 0/5
The Chicken Marsala arrived in a large bowl of ziti noodles with a good amount of mushrooms and thin chicken and a watery sauce. It had a decent flavor, but I would not order again as the consistency was off, 2/5
The manicotti is not good. It arrived sad and soggy with 2, YES 2 Manacotti noodles with only mozzarella and no ricotta cheese. The marinara was good. But I would not order again. 2/5
The Chicken Scampi, though a decent portion, was definitely not worth $17.95. Chicken was un-seasoned and very bland. The noodles and vegetables were good, but I would not order it again, and probably won't eat my leftovers, and again, it was missing the soup. 2/5
Addie was extremely attentive to our needs and is probably the best server I have had in my life. I would return specifically for her again. 5/5
I would like to note that we arrived before 2:00pm (lunch menu), but our order was placed after 2:00pm (dinner menu) however, they were kind enough to honor lunch pricing.
TLDR: *ASK FOR ADDIE AS YOUR SERVER *ORDER SOUP, NOT SALAD *DON'T...
Read moreThis place is fantastic! We went in for their Valentine's Day meal. The food was incredible. I had a combo ravioli, and my partner had the lobster ravioli; both were absolutely great. We also decided on the stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer, and they were delicious! It all arrived pretty quickly as well even though the restaurant started to get busier. Prices were extremely fair in my opinion because of how good everything was. Our dishes were around $20.00, and our appetizer was $10.00. Overall, a really great holiday meal for two under $100 is very well worth it! Our waitress (Angie) was incredibly nice and answered all of our questions. She was very attentive and came around a few times to ask if we needed water refills and if our food was good. Another person (unsure if host or owner) also came around once to our table to ask how everything was. On our way out, a different waitress asked how our food was. The service and kindness of the staff was incredibly welcoming. I cannot wait to come back here for a nice,...
