I've lived in numerous cities and have been to mexico more times that you can count on your toes and fingers not to mention i frequent reataurants of all sorts, i'm a food connesiur, and love to rate and judge everything from decoration to service. I have learned good mexican food is hard to come by. I am always impressed if i find any sort of great tasting mexican food where the quality is on par and trust worthy, the assortment of choices will satisfy all of your tastebuds and where there isn't something you can find on the menu that you don't like. This place nails it. Chips made by hand, tortillas heated on a grill (fyi to the person who said they microwave...kitchen is open for viewing and it's all fresh and not one microwave in that place-not to mention If they used lard in their beans, they might be a bit tastier as i am a fan of lard, but mazatlan grill takes a different appoach keeping it lard free so those that are vegitarian can enjoy) the staff spoils you and will cater and mold the food, substituting whatever it is you need, so it's made the way you like it. Bonus, the drinks are tasty and strong. Try their margarita, it's made daily and it's their own secret recipe. Addicting to say the least. Every place has it's downfalls or makes mistakes here and there, especially when they are super busy, which thisnplace tends to be suring dinner, but the staff is very attentive and make up for any mess ups The ambiance makes you want to keep coming for more. TexMex here has ruined me when it comes to finding other great mexican food, and i find myself comparing others i try to this one. If anyone wants advice on good Mexican restaurants, authentic and or Tex Mex in the Portland or Seattle area, feel free to reach our to me for recommendations. Mazatlan, When are you opening one in portland or seattle? Wishing i could have some pollo mole and pollo a la crema right now and some good laughs with the staff. Perhaps i am biased for one reason or another ;) but everyone i talk to from different states who have stopped at Mazatlan Grill, family owned restaurant craves and misses it, as they should :) It helps that it is conveniently located right off the exit. Think it may be time for me to pay Central Point, Or. and Mazatlan...
Read moreWe have eaten at Matzatlan many times. The food is good, however, not good enough to put up with a staff with attitude. We walked in the door and no one was at the reception area. She was in the back room on a personal call. We were told she was taking an order, however it was a personal conversation that we overheard. We stood there at least 5 minutes. Marco passed us twice. He did not say someone will be right with you. We waited another 5 minutes and seated ourselves as did an elderly couple with a gentleman that could hardly stand with a Walker. Finally we all seated ourselves and went and got our own menues. We seated ourselves. Marco again walked by us 7 times and did not say someone will be right with you. We waited another 5 mins. Another waiter came out of the back and waited on people who came in after us. We finally ask Marco if we were going to be waited on. He said I'll get your waiter. 5 minutes passed. The waiter finally came out to take our order. We asked him Marcos name, he would not tell us. We called Marco over. We said we thought he had been rude not greeting us or telling us someone would be right with us.he said the front desk girl seats people! We stood there 10 mins. So we seated our selves. So there in lay the reason we were not waited on. Marco was running a number on us because we were forced to seat ourselves. The girl served us chips and water. Marco refused to apologize. We then got up and left. When the cats away the mice will play. They copped attitudes and cost the restaurant business. If my employees acted like that they would be reprimanded. My staff won't be eating there...
Read moreWe have lived in southern Oregon for almost a year now as of Nov. 2018. Coming from San Jose Ca. where good Mexican food is abundant, it’s been a challenge to find anything worth spending my money on. Mazatlan has a couple good dishes that I will eat. But, if you like chips and salsa forget it. When I first moved here we went there first because other franchise Mazatlan restaurants were fine, not great, but plenty good enough. Since then though the chips have been steadily getting worse. I like their unique salsa it’s good. But the chips are hard, over cooked, and I’m assuming there re-using chips from other tables their cleaning because some of my chips in the basket had salsa on them. Just a guess. Back to the chips, they told me they make them themselves so the hardness is likely to them trying to revive them in the oven because their so stale. The first waitress I talked to acted like I was a fool, took my chips, microwaved them and brought the same ones back and told me their chips are fine. I would challenge her to go to any store in America and find any chips even half that hard. Stay away from anything beef, their beef enchalidas are horrible, the beef burritos are made with the same hamburger so their terrible also. The chicken enchiladas are pretty ok. Rice and beans ok also. I make my own chili verde at home so your on your own for pork meals their. Restaurants spend a lot of effort on perfecting their salsas, it’s a shame Mazatlan in Central Point, cannot see the importance of what that salsa goes onto. I will not go back until they improve...
