Comfort food it is! What can i say about the classics!? These island dishes are what memories are made of.
This place is popping! We got lucky with the short line for lunch, but right after ordering, that line stretched around the outside.
As some may know, i always give my honest opinion. I can honestly say that this place is one of the best island food place i have been to.
We ordered 5 different things from the menu and it ran about $65. Not bad for the portion.
We got the Loco Moco, Spicy chicken and waffles, katsu, pulled pork Benedict and the Galbi plate.
All these orders were definitely one of the best tasting dishes i have tried. The one dish that stood out had to be the Spicy chicken and waffles!
Juicy cutlet seasoned perfectly with salt and pepper with a drenching of cheese and bacon sitting on top of a big waffle 🧇. Topped with a mild syrup. YUMMY!
The Katsu was tender and tasty. The Galbi was good.. wifey had it... not my thang... but she says it was delicious.
The Benedict and perfectly poached eggs and savory pulled pork with potatoes.
The Loco Moco... well, still loco! Love this classic dish. Always a hit unless the patty is dry which in this case, it was not.
One thing that was a down side was that we ordered to go and when we got the order everything was stacked on top of each other. Normally, this would be ok, but in this case.... well, the to go containers were flimsy and didn't latch closed. So the packs were squished and looked more like the Leaning Tower of Pisa by the time we got home... so anything with a sauce or gravy (loco moco) looked like it was slapped to the side. The other dishes, since they were on one side looked like there was a portion missing cause one side was empty and the other had all the food.
A minor thing considering the food was excellent but a thing is a thing for those with OCD.... just saying.
Definitely recommended to go...
Read more+2 stars for the ube pancake. The purple sauce that comes with the two pancakes alone was to die for! The ube-embedded syrup was just the right amount of sweetness for me. When paired with the fluffy ube pancake, I went to heaven. Will definitely come back for just this pancake alone!
+1 star for the chicken katsu loco moco. I was craving katsu so naturally I had to try this dish. I wonder if I can ask for more of the delicious gravy...
+1 star for service. The cashier was friendly and welcomed us with a big aloha, especially given it was our first time at this chain restaurant (they have other branches in Irvine, Mission Viejo, Dana Point, and Newport Beach).
+1 star for clean washroom. There are 2 sinks outside of the restroom so you can wash hands, even if you're not using the restroom, before eating, especially during this winter season that is the conglomerate of all respiratory diseases.
Word of advise:
Get there before the brunch runsh. We got there around 11am and there was a 20 minutes wait line out of the door just to order and another 25 to 35 minutes wait before our names were called for our take outs.
Secure seats while waiting to order. If you have a party 1, recommend for your family or friend to scout for tables. We were lucky that someone offered the table next to theirs to us. Outdoor seating was easier for us to procure than indoors, which was better for us since we wanted outdoors.
Don't move the outdoor dining furniture. We wanted to give other diners their space so we moved the table and a server let us know to keep all furniture in a line on the outdoor seating next to the restaurant. We apologized profusely.
Alright, don't make the mistakes we made and have a wonderful...
