This place was going to get one star, but our waitress, Roxie was amazing! So it gets 2.
When my friend and I got to Off the Street Cafe on Sunday for lunch, it was understandable crowded. We were told it would be 45 minutes, but it was about 55 for us to be seated. And at 50 minutes, when we checked with the hostess, she looked annoyed when she told us there 2 people ahead of us.
When we were seated, a guy immediately asked us what we wanted to drink. When I asked for strawberry lemonade he practically scoffed when he told me they didn't have any. So we asked for time to look at the menu.
Roxi ended up helping us instead and she was an absolute doll! Though, when they brought my friend's tea, it was super sweet, so when she mixed it to possibly dilute the sweetness, we noticed a piece of onion floating around in her drink. We told the hostess about it when she walked by since Roxie was helping others and she switched the drink out for us.
By then we had already lost our appetite, but we decided to stay since we were so hungry and waited to long.
My burger was delicious, but the house fries I got with it tasted undercooked and looked like it was literally picked up off the street.
Roxie asked how the food was and I said it was ok, but she insisted on knowing more, so I told her how the fried tasted underdone and she apologized genuinely. She said they're usually really good.
Fortunately, they took my friends drink and my meal off of the receipt so we didn't feel so bad about eating there. As we left, my friend stopped to talk to the hostess about how great Roxie was. Then the hostess asked about our food and my friend told her about the onion in her drink (which she switched out for us). But she stared blankly at my friend as though she didn't understand why that was an issue. She also told her about the House Fries tasting undercooked. The hostess apologized for that and said she hoped we'd come back and give them another try.
We got a free cinnamon roll for checking in with Yelp with no problem, so I took it to go and gave it to my sister when I got home.
Roxie was the best part about that place. I appreciate them removing stuff we had issues with from the receipt... But I will definitely not be going back. I had high hopes for this place after reading the reviews and was very...
Read moreDo not bother if you are planning a leisurely breakfast/lunch or a chance to catch up with a friend. We sat on the patio. It was maybe 30% full. Inside was less than. We both ordered breakfast combos and coffee. Everything came the way it was ordered. Food was good but nothing special. We weren't even half way through our meal and the waitress brought us our bill. She said there was no rush. I asked, like I do any waitress if we want to hang out, did she need the table. She stated we were fine. I told her that if she needed the table to please just let us know. She reassured us we were fine. We ate and visited. I had finished my meal a few minutes after my friend. We were chatting and a young man, deer in the headlights, comes over and said that we needed to leave. He said that they had a 90 minute policy that you can't stay at a table longer than 90 minutes so we had to leave. I had the bill in hand and we were walking in to the restaurant to pay and our waitress walked by so my friend asked her about the policy. She said, "oh yeah, when we are busy and we have an hour wait now." Then she asked if I wanted to pay the bill with her. I was a bit frustrated. I nodded and she handed me her machine to place my card in and sign. Then, because I didn't notice the tip area at the top she actually pointed out my three tip options, starting with 15%. I gave her a tip and we walked out. There were two tables, plus ours available on the patio. As we went through the front of the restaurant there was no one at the check in or in the front of the restaurant. I looked for a sign stating their 90 minute policy, there wasn't one. The waitress didn't mention it when I asked if she needed the table and didn't come over herself after I told her that if she did need it, just let us know. Outside there was one woman sitting on the bench outside and a couple on the bench opposite her. Then along the outside of the patio another bench with two people and a child. I'm not sure how they measure an hour wait. Either way we will not be returning when...
