I am an out-of-towner, but love BBQ. I ordered my food to-go and just ended up eating in the car. The bag I got was kind of small and I was a bit curious if all the food I’d ordered was actually in the bag. I quickly learned all the food was in the bag, but just in portions I think are on the small side when you think BBQ. I’d share photos of the sides, but you can see the small plastic containers in other photos. I mean for $2.00, I’d still think we’d get more - like maybe the size the desserts are served in? The sides I had were the macaroni and cheese and the potato salad. Mac n cheese was greasy, but tasty. The potato salad is mustard-based and seemed to be missing something. The desserts I tried were the peach cobbler and banana pudding. The cobbler seems more like pie filling and gelatin-type. The crust wasn’t great in texture nor taste. The banana pudding was better - it seemed fresh and homemade. The wafers/cookies were soft, but not mushy. The flavor could be a bit better, but it’s good. Now we have sides done, let’s talk meat. I tried the pulled pork sandwich and ribs. Portion size for the sandwich is another point I want to make - it’s more like a slider. The pulled pork was tender and juicy. By itself, the pork average - definitely needed to put sauce on the pork. The ribs were falling apart. I could pull the bone clean out! I’m a dry rub guy, so the flavoring was ok. Again, needed to add sauce to get the tasty part. I’d prefer the meat to have good flavor without sauce. Overall, quality is average, taste is slightly above average, portions are below average, and the price is tolerable but seems to be lower because portions seem smaller. I’d try another place to see how this place compares to other BBQ in the area...
Read moreLiving in Georgia my whole life, I've eaten at a lot of BBQ places. I've had my favorites over the years and one thing always remained constant between all the places I tried, the pork would be great but the stew wouldn't be or vice versa. Rarely did a place get everything right. Old Brick Pit is one of those places that does everything right. The pork is slightly chopped not pulled. I don't care for the sauce that comes on it so I opt to have mine with no sauce and use the sweet sauce on the table. The sweet sauce is incredible. The vinegar sauce has an after taste I don't care for but some people love it. The stew is how Brunswick stew should be made. Not chunky and thick but slightly thin and soupy with a mix of corn, pork, chicken etc.... Simple but effective. Add some of the crystal hot sauce and it's perfection. I know there's a slew of BBQ types and people like different things but for me personally, OBP is my #1 spot. Out of the possibly hundred different places I've tried in my life, OBP is the only one that gets everything right and how I personally like it. When I think of Southern BBQ, this is...
Read moreGood Barbecue is hard to come by especially near the perimeter. This little gem is hidden away, not advertised, you only learn about it by word of mouth. The Barbecue is good enough that I try to eat there on the regular 4 times a month. The staff are great. But lets be honest lets talk the food, the first thing you will notice when you walk in is that delicious smoked aroma, not over powering like some similar restaurants, just enough of that delicious smoked meat smell to wet the appetite. The next thing you will notice is that old time feel, it feels like a real mom and pop store you would find by chance it has a 1985's kinda feel to it with a bit of summer camp. The meat is tender on the ribs and melts in your mouth. The sandwiches are just big enough to eat maybe two and not feel like a pig. Everytime i stop in the food has be consistent...
