Steak 'n Shake — Restaurant in Champaign

We stopped coming to this location for food long ago. Rude service, unclean tables and inconsistent food that comes out cold most times. My last visit was no different. We were given steak n shake gift cards for Christmas so gave it a shot sine this is our closest location. We stood inside the door staring at the please wait to be seated sign for a few minutes whilst watching a couple of wait staff doing their job and a few others talking. Finally a waiter took pity on us and came to seat our family. We sat for a long time before a bumbling waitress came apologizing for our wait and took our drink order. We took the chance to look over the menu and decide what to get never realizing it'd be quite some time before she came back. The only part of my meal to arrive that I ate was a cup of chili it was hot and I had no complaints there. She came and refilled our glasses and assured us our food would be right out. The next time she came around we were again assured our food would arrive soon and my empty cup was taken (I never received another drink). Our food came and 2 out of three plates had to be sent back and fries on another needed replacement. I received my meal for the second time and had to yet again send it back for a different reason than the first yet my child had still not gotten her food replaced. She came around and mistakenly gave my daughter my husbands fries and says did you still not get her food? No sure hadn't.... she finally got her food only to refuse to eat it because once again it was cold. I also got my 3rd meal considering the first 2 were off I didn't expect much but let me tell you it was worse than I thought. They had taken the cold food from my second plate and put it back in the fryer. How do I know? The food was dripping in brown grease from being refried and so was the plate. The manager who did comp our meals wasn't much help but to say, we've had a lot of complaints about her today. She wrote down on receipt paper everything we had messes up and dated it then put her name at the bottom with a promise that the next time we come in they'd take that as payment for those items. Who does that? Receipt paper with scribbled words. That's professional. To top it off we got to listen to some real classy banter between the cook and a waitress. We won't be back to use our receipt...

I was meant with a highly rude, incompetent, and unprofessional “store” manager last night who refused to give me her name upon several requests. I’m currently pregnant and had simply been doing a DoorDash order with my niece in our spare time for extra change in which I was met with poor degrading customer service from the store manager who was working the window and passed out the order I was picking up to another driver without properly following procedures and checking the order number of the previous dasher. The store manager then became very rude and began to fault me for her ability to not remake a bacon cheeseburger meal and a coke for a customer who provided full proof I was there dasher and that they were still in fact waiting on my delivery to arrive to them. After showing the store manager the proof she continued to blow my concerns off and become hostile with me and then demanded for me to move from her drive thru in which she threatened to call the police to have me removed from the drive thru as well as have me band from DoorDashing from that location all because she refused to remake the order because of inventory. Now I have worked in fast food many years back and never recalled it ever being acceptable or a good look for a place to have a store manager and management that is held to such a low standard. I don’t eat at Steak ‘n Shake anyways but I sure can guarantee that I will never spend a dime at this location if I do. I hope you guys really consider in the future who you have as the face of your store. I would rate 0...

We go to visit steak and shake fairly regularly, as there are two locations near our house. We enjoy their food and shakes, and it's a tasty treat that sounds good at times. We also often visit locations along the interstate while traveling. Usually, one of the main reasons that we choose not to visit will be that we don't have time - it usually takes a while to get food and shakes, and even getting your order taken can be quite lengthy. All of this is to get to this point - tonight, at this location at least, they were fast. We were seated right away, and the waitress arrived in about one minute after we were seated. Drink orders were taken, and then brought immediately. We ordered our food and asked for a minute to decide on our shake. I took a drink, chatted for a minute or so, and then started unwrapping my silverware. Placed the shake order, and charged for a minute. Our food walked up before I could finish a very short story for my booth mate. The shame arrived before I took a second bit of burger and fries. By far, the fastest and most accurate experience I've had at any location. Food and shakes were all great.
