I greatly enjoyed my experience at the Purple Bowl, their food was delicious, and I appreciate their sustainability initiative. Their bowl and toast selections are very interesting; all of them are geared towards health and fitness, with options including avocado toast, cacao nibs, an "ugly green bowl" made with kale and kiwi. I did appreciate their attention to antioxidants, plant based protein and immune system boosters in particular. The purple bowl itself was a minimalist, slightly bustling (and yet not distracting) quaint restaurant with plants, Mason jar utentsil holders, weathered wood plates with artisan toast, a visible shelf of bananas and a great window to let the sun in! The atmosphere was perfect, and it served well to fit a trendy, fitness-chic idea, while being a completely relaxed and aesthetically pleasing room. When I went, I got their antioxidant bowl (mostly because it had goji berries!) and a black coffee, because I'm not myself if I'm not trying a restaurant's coffee :). Both were delicious, and I have to say their "purple bowl" base is delicious!! They also had lemon infused water available in the dining room, which I found to be a nice touch. One of the biggest reasons I have for this five star review is the perceived sustainability initiative the owners of the purple bowl must have; when I was reading the ingredients of the bowl and saw "Hemp Milk" I was confused, and a little turned off by the idea, but a) I didn't notice any flavor difference and b) hemp milk is cruelty free and Much more sustainable than nut milks, so I absolutely respect this decision!! Also, the plastic ware in the shop was (if I'm right) exclusively compostable, which is a gold star business move in my eyes, and I admire that commitment. The other thing I appreciated was their use of at least some local foods; I don't know for certain if their fruits are locally sourced, but I know their coffee was sourced out of Durham! All in all, this was a pleasant dining experience with delicious food (love! That purple bowl-- it's a very effective business name) and a commitment to sustainability that I appreciate! (It would be really cool if they were able to find a local source for the hemp milk, since I know they use so much of it and the packaging isn't always compostible! Hope this is a plan in...
Read moreI have had a very inconsistent experience here. The past few times I’ve gone I was charged an extra $2 to substitute hemp milk for oj because of an allergy. Tuesday when I was here it took over 20 minutes for them to make my bowl there was only 1 other person here and then when they brought it out the guy was rude and caused for a very awkward interaction. Today- I got here at like 643 and was told they can’t make my bowl Because they are about to close! I drove from morrisville and there is 17 minutes til closing. The girl told me because I have to have oj instead of hemp milk for an allergy I would have to come at least an hour before closing! It doesn’t take an hour to make! I’m so frustrated because I love the product and drive quite a ways to get it. When I come from home, I come from Clayton- 50 minutes away. But today to be turned away!!!! I don’t think I’ll be back. There are a lot of...
Read moreJust got back from my first visit to California, where Açaí bowl places are ubiquitous. This one is easily the best in the area. It is as good as the best ones in CA (a small chain called Ubatuba if you’re curious). Specifically, the Purple Bowl gets the “classic” açaí base correct and also doesn’t make the bowls too sweet. The fruit is amazingly high quality also. If you’re not sure what to order, I’d start with the build your own bowl: classic base, strawberries and one other fruit, no honey, and chocolate chips and two other toppings. If you get the classic, strawberries, and chocolate, you won’t go wrong. I was going to post a photo of my bowl today but I ate it too quickly, and you don’t want to see a photo of an empty bowl. I’ll be back in a few days to update with a good photo. Great place to hang out or study. The parking lot is...
