Charles Town Family Diner — Restaurant in Charles Town

This is our first visit under the new ownership and name. As with any new business, I will give them the benefit of the doubt.. Let me state upfront nothing was bad. There was good and not so good. The renovations give the place a fresh feel and vibe.

Looking at the menu and the prices, ($17.95 for spaghetti & tomato sauce) we were anticipating dishes prepared in a scratch kitchen.

I ordered the rib plate dinner special- $19.95 great value, a whole rack of ribs, two sides. They tasted like pre-cooked, prepackaged, heat & eat ribs, like you would find at a grocery store…not bad, not great.

My wife ordered the chicken tenders dinner -$19.99. Five chicken tenders,soup or salad & side. The salad was fresh and crisp. The entrees took a bit (20-25 min) getting out of the kitchen, people that arrived after our orders had been place were already eating. When her meal arrived, we expected fresh chicken tenders.. What she got was a dinner platter with five frozen, breaded chicken tenders.. like you would get from Walmart frozen food section, a scoop of potatoes (tasted like instant) in a separate bowl. No presentation.. the five tenders would have looked better on a side plate. She said nothing was bad… just okay is the way she described it. We were both disappointed with value of her meal. Any other place her meal would have been less than half. We ordered dessert (coconut cream & cherry pie) $7.50/slice. Again, both were “okay” the cherry lattice slice looked fresh from the grocery store, a 10” pie cut into eight slices.

So, two entrees, pie & tea the dinner was $65 before tip. Again, nothing was bad.. just okay and a little disappointing considering we paid $65 for two meals that looked and tasted prepackaged and frozen.

Service- the staff was still getting acquainted with the ordering system. They seemed understaffed, our server refilled my tea once and never refilled my wife’s. Again, the servers were stretched covering a big area. More wait staff would have helped the situation and allowed the servers to focus on their customers more.

Overall, not bad experience, a little under whelming considering comments from the FaceBook page. We will be back at a later date and try them again and I will update...

We vacation a couple of times a year to West Virginia and we used to stop at the Old Mountain view Diner until it became too dirty and the service miserable..... SURPRISE!! New Owners Finally!! My Wife and I ate brunch today at first not wanting to come as we saw the new name but wasn't sure if anything had changed.....again SURPRISE!!! The diner was immaculate and super appealing with clean fresh painted walls and window sills, the floors looks like they were sanded and redone, even all the booths and overhead lamps are now very clean!!! We then had a very friendly courteous and fast serving server named Kayla and she took our order in a jiffy. In no time at all we had a fantastic brunch of Pancakes eggs home fries toast bacon and coffee at our table all Super fresh and delicious. Coffee was fantastic!! If you stopped going like we did for the reasons we mentioned earlier you need to come back as this place is top-notch and we can't wait to come back for dinner as all the food is made fresh and the service is excellent!! My family brought me her on Saturday the day before mother's day to celebrate mother's day the restaurant is beautiful inside we were seated in the bar area and greeted by our server her name was Cynthia she promptly greeted us and took our drink order she brought our drinks told us about their specials and took our dinner order my daughter is diabetic so I needed information Google didn't have Cynthia went out of her way to get the info I needed for my daughter she spoke to my daughter so kindly and took her time so my daughter could order her own food she has social anxiety terrible we try to encourage her to order her own food if she can Cynthia was absolutely amazing with her and us when we go back we will be requesting her as her patients and kindness has wowed my family and given me the best mother's day I have had in years thank you for helping my daughter become more confident and thank you for being the kind soul you are Cynthia we love and appreciate you and your hard work to be a difference.
