The food was good but the service was horrible. We went in and got sat quickly. They weren't super busy but finishing up the lunch rush. A hostess came by to check on us because we were sitting there so long with our menus. Our server finally came and we ordered a latte and a house coffee. Then ordered our food. He took 33 minutes to bring us our drinks, and never brought us water or anything. My coffee was cold and old. I flagged down the waiter and explained it was cold and he said it would take him 8 minutes to brew a new pot, that was "the last of the old pot". So what was he doing for 33 minutes? And was he not going to give me any refills?
At that point I told him to take it back and take it off the bill. I didn't want it.
The food was brought out by someone else. That person brought us silverware and hot sauce. Super friendly. Good food.
When we tracked the waiter down and asked for the check, he brought it out with the coffee still charged. We had to flag him down again and ask to have it removed again.
Really sad because the place was cute, had decent food, and most of the staff was awesome, but our waiter made us question our choice and we almost left before the food got...
Read moreIf you are a group of 2, 4, or 6, I highly recommend Toasted Crust's "Crust & Cork" pizza-making class where participants learn to make pizza from scratch. Chef Mike is an excellent and patient teacher (I accidentally put a hole in my first dough and he quickly got me another one). He gave clear instructions and is easy going. You get to pull the dough, dress the pizza, add wood to the fire, and cook and cut the pizza. Other staff members were friendly and made sure everyone in our party felt welcome. Overall, it's a great atmosphere and activity for a night out.
As for the food, we had a good selection of meats, cheeses, and veggies, along with different sauces, for our pizzas. While Chef is directing the group, he makes sure all pizzas come out on time. The wood-fired pizza tasted fantastic! We also had a focaccia bread appetizer, served with sweet overnight tomatoes and fresh pesto that was killer. We didn't get the beignets, but saw several other tables ordered them and they looked great.
Pizza-making class or not, this is a excellent spot for a fun night out. We went with my wife's parents and the other pair in our group was a mom and son. The class would also make...
Read moreThis is an interesting use of space, it’s Toast breakfast restaurant from 7am to 3 pm and converts to a pizza restaurant from 3pm til closing. We went for dinner and split a really amazing truffle buratta salad as our appetizer and then a crispy Margarita pizza. The combination was perfect for two medium hungry people. The salad was very good with a generous twist of prosciutto and tasty heirloom tomatoes and buratto. Dressing was spot on. The pizza was good but not great. The crust was ok but floppy and the overall taste was a little bland. Overall it was good for downtown pizza but not the best. Service was terrific, very attentive without being overbearing, and quick to address any needs. The atmosphere is good, fairly well lit with plenty of seating. Music a little loud but it’s still possible to talk at moderate levels. Prices good for downtown. Overall we give the Republic of Pizza three and one half clams (4 stars on the GenX scale) on the coveted Five Quahog...
