Our 6 year old grandson thoroughly enjoyed this children’s museum. It had many places to explore and learn new things. It was well laid out, organized and very clean. It was appropriate for kids of all ages.
My only negative critique would be that they did NOT have the activities that were scheduled/listed on their website. Be prepared to be very underwhelmed.
We visited twice in one week-May 27th and 29th, Tuesday and Thursday. Their website calendar described they had scheduled robotic activities. Tech Tuesday was suppose to be with a variety of robotics and interactive tech activities.
We drove there to arrive just in time for their 1:00pm tech activity. Their tech activity/presentation was a small basket of calculators with felt numbers. The employee was certainly great, hyping it up to the kids that joined in. Only a few calculators worked, because they were solar, but it was Definitely not robotics. Underwhelming. The employee conceded it wasn’t really robotics, but that was what they had available and prepared for that day.
On Thursday at 3pm, it was to be Full Steam Ahead, ages 5-8, exploring science, technology, engineering, and math. I asked about what they had planned for the, slightly skeptical from our prior visit. The employee was gracious and said they’d go in the back and see what they could find. Ok great! We waited and they brought out pipe cleaners and beads to match patterns. Hmmmm!
When I showed them what they had on their website, they conceded they weren’t the education specialists or program directors, fair point. I did share that we visit children’s museums in every city we visit, and unfortunately for us, we evidently visited them at the wrong...
Read moreMehhhh...we were actually really disappointed. We're locals who haven't been to the Children's Museum in about 4 years. For as much money as this venue brings in, and for being a non-profit, it is extremely disappointing to see how disheveled and dirty the areas are and how outdated all of the equipment is. Also, many of the attractions had "Out of Order" signs on them. Honestly, it looks like there's been very little add-ons or new equipment added since we visited 4 years ago. The "garden" areas outside are basically weeds. Definitely not kept up with. All of the dress up items are tossed about all over the floor and much of it is torn and unwearable. There were hardly any art supplies available in the art room and the paint brushes were COVERED in paint. No one was available in the room to assist. The activities outside are very limited because they don't seem to have enough materials for multiple children to play at once, ie. Kids were arguing and waiting in line for available balls on the ball course (small balls). I didn't see any large balls available for the large ball course (blue foam track). There may have been 2, at max, 3 employees available. I do have to say, though, that the employees were very nice. I really feel like with as much as they charge for entry and as long as they've been opened, there are some major renovations needed. Also, side note...while there were many hand sanitizer stations available throughout the venue, I did not see any signs of employees sanitizing any of the play areas at any point while we were there. It will be the last time we visit. Would honestly rather pay for gas to go to Columbia, SC and visit the children's...
Read moreAwesome place for the kids! This place is a kid's dream come true for an indoor playground. It is a very big place with plenty of things for kids to do.
This place is has a large wooden pirate ship, a castles with multilevels, an entire pretend supermarket, complete with checkout registers, a large room where kids can paint and create other crafts, a water playground where kids can play with with toy ships, and even costumes so kids can really get into their role playing.
There's places for parents to sit and watch their kids play without loosing sight of their children. The inside has a very well planned out topography for allowing you to keep an eye on your kids while they play. I like that.
It really feels more like a large indoor playground than an actual museum, to me. While there are "exhibits" to see, I think they're too closely tied to the playground for kids to really take notice of and really learn anything from it.
I didn't get a chance to see the outdoor portion of this place, but my wife said it was a little run down and that I wasn't missing anything. I'll take her word for it. My only real gripe was the lack of upkeep in the men's bathroom. Someone dropped a bomb in the men's bathroom and it had not been cleaned, the smell was so bad that I had to leave the building to use the rest room.
The entry price for two adults and two smaller kids was about $40, just FYI.
Overall the kids had a lot of fun and did not...
