I went to the Music Farm tonight for Umphreys, First of all the band played great. Nothing on them, they truly killed it and were it not for this venue I would have a had a stellar experience. Here's how my night went. When I first got to the Music Farm (which I've been coming to shows at since the late 90's btw) I was greated by a girl at the will call window who seemed to be stoned or somehow completely out of it. She asked me what I wanted. Great customer service A+++ sike! Next, after telling her my name and that I was her for will call tickets she said she didn't know what I was talking about. My name wasn't on the list! She made me stand there with an antsy crowd trying to get into the show that was about to start pull up my credit card account and EMAIL confirmation on my cell phone and finally realizing that I did indeed buy tickets and making me feel like some scammer in front of a large group of people gave me two "admit one" stubs as if I was at a church fair. I must also mention while I was waiting in line this happened to BOTH the people in front of me as well. Right off the bat - What is going on at this place? I don't fault Umphreys for playing here but seriously? What kind of business is this? So finally we get inside and have a great show despite it being a sauna inside - clearly no AC running before anyone came in - and guys, this was April (felt like 95 degrees inside by the bar), I can't imagine what it would feel like in the summer but I pity anyone who feels the need to come to a show here in that heat. To add to that the sound was total crap. The bass guitar volume would go from being sternum shaking loud to inaudibly quiet from one measure of the solo to the next. I go to the bar mid second set to get a beer and shot and after ordering beers and shots for my crew, the bartender asks me for my card. I've been buying drinks from him all night so I told him the number on the paper card they had given me when they took my credit card. I told him my number and he asked me for the card - fair enough, I understand why it's protective to see the card. I looked though my pockets for the card and couldn't find it. I told the bartender I couldn't find it and gave him my ID and told him the number again. He went to the box where they keep the cards and first came back repeating the number I had told him BACKWARDS and said "that's not your tab" I said man, that's not the number and told him the actual number and he went back again to the box. He came back yet again telling me, that's not your card quickly turned his back and took the drinks away. I even had cash I could have payed with but yet I had to wait 15 more minutes while he deliberately ignored me standing there. Finally he looked at me again and I told him that the number I told him was correct and gave him my ID again AND cash and said if you don't believe me I'll just pay cash and straighten it out later. He took my cash and I gave him a nice tip. (I shouldn't have). Finally after the band was done I went back to the bar and told another bartender my number and that I couldn't find my card with the number. He went to the same box where they keep the credit cards and instantly found mine in the slot for that number and closed me out. Point is this - I spent a lot of money at this business, hell I even promoted the show for them by telling lots of people about it that ended up coming. I walked away over $150 poorer and humiliated when I only came to see a concert and have fun and paid good money to do so. I don't care who is playing at this venue but I will NEVER RETURN. Beware to all, this is a HORRIBLY run business and if you're looking to have a good time seeing live music as I was go elsewhere at all costs. This debacle of a venue really needs to be shut down or at least run properly. It gives live music and the concert...
Read moreThe music farm has made a lot of good changes over the past 6 months. The new management clearly has turned this place around for the better. The air conditioners have been redone, the old front door staff has been fired and replaced with new knowledgable staff, new electronic will call and guest list services have been implemented at the front door also, no long lines or wait times or struggles getting bar service. Fresh experienced bartenders now tend bar and the quality of music is great. Production staff and crew are super efficient and they know what they are doing from multiple years of experience. Music farm productions works hard to book fresh acts and entertainment so that people in Charleston can actually see a good show or a band they love without having to travel a few hours. Without the music farm, you wouldn't see a good show in this part of the low country. I've been going to shows here for years and the changes were much needed but now very obvious and taken care of.
ALOT of people complain about petty things that they aren't happy with when they go see a show but you can't please everyone. most of the time its the persons attitude or mindset that makes them have a negative experience. Go there and see for yourself. Things have changed and its a great venue. If you are one of the people that hate on the music farm then you aren't the type of people they want around anyways so don't go back. Let people that want to have a good time do it without your poor attitude- and if you are unhappy with something I'm sure the management would have no problems resolving the situation with you like a mature person instead of you ranting on the...
Read moreI’ve been going here for many years and I usually have a FANTASTIC TIME. I know a couple of close friends who have worked here and the hall and were nothing but delightful. I’m not sure if there’s been new staff hired but last night I went with a group of around 10 girls, me and another friend of mine had X’s on our hands while the rest of my friends did not. I did not order a drink but my friends of age did then proceeded to be followed around the whole time by one of the bartenders , he was a bald man but didn’t get his name. Now security I would understand to monitor people , but a bartender was very uncomfortable and unprofessional was watching us almost to try and “catch” us for doing something wrong because at one point my friend needed to fix her outfit and ask me to hold her drink. VERY CLEARLY WITH X’s on my hand I was not drinking the drink and made sure to give the drink back. But at that point the bartender accused me of sharing my friends drink and kicked us out with no explanation. It all around just made me extremely uncomfortable as a women, if it was a bouncer or security that would be in their job description but having a bartender leave the bar to follow underage girls was CREEPY and made me very disappointed in this great establishment. Please tell me this was just something that happened to...
