I'v never had a pet in my home growing up with pet allergies, so I have no idea how allergic I am to pets until I stay at hotels that NOW allow pets in rooms.
Last year I stayed at a hotel that I noticed strong cleaner odor, covering pet oder...Eyes nose irritation....At 2am I couldnt take it any more...chest pains...I had to go outside and immediately felt better. I had to sleep in my car. That hotel had a good front desk person that was concerned about the attack I was having and said...There was a dog in my room prior...because the same thing happened to his mother... SO FLASH FORWARD TO TODAY...When we called to make THIS reservation using my husbands frequent gold membership we requested a NO Pet room and also a room with a window or door open to outside AIR...Upon check in they said: We don't have windows that open, but we have a room that hasnt had a pet....I go to the room and immediately notice the DOG SMELL COVERED BY THE STRONG CLEANER SMELL....SO I go back down and see the same girl and wonder why after the entire conversation I got put in a room the obviously had a dog prior if not many dogs ??? WE GET MOVED TO ANOTHER ROOM that wasnt as strong with the pet smell....THEN COME TO FIND OUT THEY HAVE ROOMS THAT OPEN TO fresh air on GROUND LEVEL. THIS WAS A TUES WED RESERVATION? Those rooms were all mostly available, so I asked why we werent offered a room with a door when we called specifically asking using my husbands gold membership ...and that same girl with green hair and manager present acted aloof to my allergy. Was she testing me as an animal lover who gets offended when pet allergies become a concern? HOTELS with sealed windows cant guarantee allergy probs. ONCE THE PET DANDER GETS INTO SYSTEM Impossible TO REMOVE...THIS IS WHY OUTSIDE AIR IS CRITICAL FOR HEALTHY AIR... Only after reading this review did the manager call us while we were driving back home in the car. Even then she seemed irritated at my complaint. She did agree to refund my husbands Gold member acct. They should consider vinyl floors if pets are staying... If you have a pet allergy, I wouldn't...
Read moreHotel was kind of old not in a antique way more of a just out of date way. The room was large and the bed was very comfortable. Water pressure was terrible in the shower. The way the hotel is set up is also strange as well it's a very long walk from the front door to the elevators and then from the elevator to our rooms Seemed like a mile. We were there in the heat of July and after walking around downtown Charleston all day sweating profusely when we finally got back to the hotel and walked through the door we felt like we had another mile and a 1/2 to get to the room. The staff however was very Friendly. We ask about recommendations where to eat and they were very happy to give suggestions. In fact this hotel is in a great location because you are very close to a lot of great restaurants within walking distance. It was Saturday night there was a lot of activity out on the street a lot of young people out in a lot of cool places to go. We ate at a great French restaurant the 1st night and the 2nd night at a really good Southern cooking restaurant. We walked down to the market on Sunday that was neat and then down to the park by the water and watched the kids play in the fountain. We were approached by several homeless people however that were very aggressive. If you're not scared of that you'll be OK just be firm that you're not giving them money unless you want to. We have a lot of homeless people in Florida where we're from we were a little perplexed the homeless in Charleston ask for a specific I'm out like $2.25 rather than can you just spare some change. That was a little odd, But like I said if you didn't give to them they got a little aggressive and started cursing you. Overall I don't know if I would stay in the historic part of Charleston again, It is older and it felt a little dirty. I don't think I would stay in this hotel however, Unless they revamped it. Again it's not because of it being antuque it really was just...
Read moreThe property overall is a nice property.. convenient to many things and places to eat. The areas was pretty.
However, the parking situation was less than ideal. Charging 35.00 per day is a little bit excessive… I thought I selected the free parking as a filter on Booking app; however, after the cancellation window, we got a “welcome email” and that is where I found out about the parking costs. I’m sure this was on me, and should have looked closer.
Arriving at the property, check in was a breeze, and initially room was great. Then we settled in. The carpets felt as if they were coated in filth. The looked clean, but walking on them, socks or bare feet get dirty.
There was a large roach in the toilet… and that sometimes happens so we overlooked it. The second night, two small ones in the bathroom. I contemplated talking with the desk but it was after 1 am and we had a long day. The last night — around the same time of night a small one was in the bathroom again, and then a large roach came down the wall near the TV. We decided to discuss it with the staff at check out, thinking that would be the best time to speak, and late at night — there’s nothing you can do. The girl was nice, but said we should have told them when it happened. This really wouldn’t have helped, as roaches are probably throughout the entire building. And since they didn’t offer any monetary refund at checkout, clearly that wasn’t an option. For the cost per night, I’d have expected better.
The tub was very strange, with a center dip down from the sides.. so your feet couldn’t remain flat. Imagine standing in a bowl almost. There was a sandy substance on the floor, inside the tub coating .. not uncomfortable, but with the dip - the overall shower experience was not pleasant.
Overall the room was incredibly humid, and there was no fan to pull the humidity out, or any humidity from...
