Okay here we go! My wife's family was visiting from Chicago and we have other members that live in Charlotte and we decided to meet and have lunch at CBG..Online reviews were okay and it was very large and spacious to accommodate a party of ten. Well we arrived at around 3:00, 7 of us walked in to scope out a table and we just stood inside the door while 2 young ladies were busy on their cell phones, they looked up at us and quickly went back to their phones. The place was fairly deserted so it wasn't as if they were slammed. No Hi welcome to CBG, no acknowledgement at ALL! I have been in the food service business for years and this total lack of being ignored already soured whatever anticipation that I was looking forward to. We secured our own table and got our first round of drinks ourselves. Several wait staff ambled past our booth with not a single one asking if we had been helped. We finally caught the attention of "Zack" who apologized profusely for the situation. We moved into the larger part of CBG because the booth we were in needed to seat 4 more people. Everyone arrived and service was still spotty.. We even contemplated going somewhere else... Once Zack gradually took control the service got better. Food was decent, menu is limited... Pizza, corn dogs, salads and the biggest disappointment came in the form of their $12.00 cheeseburger. I am a retired chef and I am well versed in the FOH/BOH workings of a restaurant. I was elated that I could order it rare..Yay! When the burger hit the table, I was already bummed. It was not the thick slab of ground beef patty I had envisioned but rather 2 very very thin patties cooked just past medium. Add lettuce, tomatoes, pickles and onions and think Micky D's Just my opinion. All in all we had a great time catching up and drinking some of the MANY different beers that are on tap... So if you go ask for Zack, he did end up doing a great job. Probably will not go back as a couple but if and when family returns we may consider it, now that we know what to expect. (Oh and on a side note, not sure why but there was more than a few security guards...
Read moreMy wife and I were in town from an hour and a half away for my daughter's checkup at the children's hospital yesterday. This place looked like a excellent place to eat and have an astounding choice of beers afterwards. The food was really awesome! The beer choices were extremely vast.
The only thing that sort of ruined the experience was a certain bartender, white middle aged male, gray beard stubble, tall, black super skinny jeans. As soon as we walked up to the bar this guy look incredibly annoyed. Of course, we don't want to jump into a pint of a beer we've never had before.. so we ask for some samples. He was not very patient with us at all. His body language showing his frustration, made me want to just close the tab and take my family elsewhere. Mind you we live an hour and a half away and this is the experience we received. We were there for two hours. We tried to move away from mister angry pants by going upstairs. But he was up there bartending as well. The longer I stood at the bar browsing the menu, the more anxious he got. Like buddy, I didn't apply to work at this place, you did. Why would you want to apply somewhere to work there if you can't handle the job? He had absolutely no opinion or suggestions on beers, he would just ramble off some beers that are commonly found in the grocery store. Obviously I am looking something a little less common. I sampled some ipas while he got increasingly more overwhelmed. I'm sorry, but I am glad I sampled all 5 of those ipas before getting a whole $9 pint of one that tastes like butterscotch. Excuseeee me! It's almost like it was his job or something.
Probably won't be back, I'll just pick a decently rated brewery in town from now on. Maybe that bartender should go work at a smaller bar with a lot less taps so he isn't such a cry baby about having to bartend as a bartender. I guess it was too...
Read moreI probably understand better than anybody the stress of being understaffed and overwhelmed as a former server for a winery. However I also understand the importance of service and a good experience. This was a vacation for us. 6 of us total and we decided to come to the Charlotte beer garden for the experience shown on your reviews. I will say there is heavy snow today and due to the weather we know the establishment is understaffed. I never walk into an establishment and expect anything crazy. But what i will say is that my experience tonight is far from what I would have liked. I feel as though the manager on duty made my group feel as though we were a bother she seemed bothered that we were asking her for anything. At first it was to put the Steelers game on and then it was the beer. The bartender was not behind the bar and she was so my friend asked her for a beer and the attitude was clear and apparent. We literally came here specifically for beer and the game. We weren’t asking to order food. We weren’t being rude and if anything we changed our beer choices based on what was convenient for the staff and readily available on the first floor. I’m highly disappointed in this experience and would never have made my guests feel the way she made us feel tonight understaffed or not. My tab alone was almost $90 my friends tab was well over $150 I will say due to this the next time we vacation to Charlotte this will not be the place we go to for beer. It put a bad taste in everyone’s mouth and I simply cannot support any business that makes me feel like providing me with services that are offered...
