The place is in the center of the Airport atrium. They have bar stools like a sushi bar and the have tables. Insat down in a corner where inoticedbtywrebwas an electrical outlet so I can recharge. As i sat down, I was greeted warmly by Gemma who has such a nice personality. I only had about an hour to munch on something. They have a sake on tap. The Bushido, way of the warrior sake. It is filtered and suitable for what I was looking for. They do not have a nigori(unfiltered sake) which was no problem. I choose the salad with ginger dressing. It was a little bit different from the plain orange ginger dressing. It was more like ginger and soy sauce combo. It worked. I also ordered the sunset roll which contained spicy crab, avocado, cucumber with large pieces of tuna and salmon sashimi. It was perfect. It may have enough for 2 people but I managed to not leave anything. The warmth and friendliness of Gemma is what makes this place. She engages quite nicely with her customers and they react to her kindly. They also have quite a few wines and craft beers on tap. Its a good place to come during a layover or if you arrive early before your flight.

For airport sushi, Hissho Sushi at Charlotte Douglas International Airport does a decent job, but it’s nothing particularly memorable. The restaurant is conveniently located in a bright, open space between terminals B & C making it an easy stop for travelers with some time to kill. The menu offers a solid selection of rolls, nigiri, and sashimi, with some creative combinations. I went with a mixed plate featuring nigiri and one of their specialty rolls, Crown Town roll, which had a nice presentation with crispy toppings and drizzles of sauce. The fish was fresh enough for an airport setting, but the freshness didn’t particularly stand out—pretty standard sushi without anything that made it exceptional. The atmosphere is typical for an airport dining experience—functional but not particularly inviting. Service was efficient, which is a plus for travelers on a schedule. Prices are a bit high, but that’s to be expected in an airport setting. Overall, Hissho Sushi is a reasonable choice if you’re desperately craving sushi while passing through CLT, but it’s not a place I’d go out of my way to visit, unless stuck in CLT airport for a few hours.

There are very few words in the English language that offer such a sharp contrast between the ideal and the result: Romantic serenade. Guitarist roommate. Airport sushi. Yeah, usually any sushi outside a prim and proper sushi place is of questionable quality, and even more questionable health code. You ain't telling me those Walmart California rolls haven't been out since last Monday. This, surprisingly, is not the case. Hissho Sushi is a place with great ambience, great music, and even great sushi. Prepared in front of you (if you sit at the bar), it's reasonably fresh and quick to come out. If you're more of a takeout person, you can grab and go their rolls. Delicious, unfussy, and, most importantly, well-priced. Not only they are reasonably-priced for airport standards, they're reasonably-priced even for normal standards! If you like sushi, knowing you'll get a pretty good deal, and a chill environment, this is the place to go.

Ok, first the good stuff. Vanessa was an excellent server, very kind, attentive, and helpful. I ordered the sunset roll, which has 8 rolls topped by a pile of salmon and tuna on 4 each. It has a very nice presentation. And that's where the nice part ends. This was very likely the worst sushi I ever had, to the point, that I'm hoping I don't get sick from having eaten it. The presentation, while nice looking, made it hard to eat, as you could try to balance the fish on top of the roll while eating it, or just take it off to eat separately, although that would also get rid of the sauce and tobiko that were on top of the heap. The rolls on the bottom, were actually quite good on their own. The fish on top were a whole different story. I've never had to spit out so much sushi in my life. The tuna, while ok in quality, was stuck together with parts on the fish that any self-respecting sushi establishment would never serve to the customers. It was like going to one of those fast food poke-bowl establishments where all of the tuna is just thrown in a bowl, whether it should be eaten or not. As for the salmon, most of it was good, but then there was the one part that was tinged something between green, brown, and grey. Yeah, tasting that one did not go well. It was definitely bad, which is something that should never happen at a place that serves raw food, and passes food inspections. Along with the other issues, the pickled ginger was good in general, aside from the parts that weren't pickled enough and were just straight ginger. I love ginger, but everything has its place, and plain ginger should not have been on a plate with sushi.

Overall, I'd highly recommend against eating there until they put a lot more effort into their craft, or at least undergo another...

Horrible place. Do not waste your money with these RUDE people that work for this company.

If he worked as my employee at my company he would have been sent packing with no job.

July 11 at 5:15pm the tall black guy working wearing the all black uniform yelled at my wife. I mean YELLED. She bought a sushi from the counter and proceeded to sit down at their tables.

He then literally yelled with a loud voice to my 90lb Vietnamese wife that she needed to leave. The seats are for dine-in guests.

I walked up as he proceeded to yell at her and asked him why he is being rude and talking to my wife with such a loud voice.

He said in a rude tone yet again, these seats are for dine in guest only.”

I told him she is dining in. She just bought a sushi from you and is sitting down to eat. What’s the difference?

He said she needed to order from the menu.

I asked what’s the difference? Is the menu more expensive? Is there a charge to sit there?

He said no.

I asked them what’s the difference? She is a paying customer just like anyone else. And no one is even sitting there. The tables are completely empty and she is a paying customer who bought the same food for the same price from the same menu.

These people do not care about you or their customer base.

Yet they charge you $18 for a small sushi roll and don’t even allow you to sit.

And their employee is extremely rude! Little did he know we were going to buy some saki and I was going to buy food for me too.

This guy should be fired and not allowed to work in a customer service focused business. He does not have the people skills or behavior to act like a reasonable adult with the companies image and customers...

Worst sashimi I’ve ever eaten: giant-cut chunks of mushy, blanched fish. I shuddered when I saw additional plastic packs of tuna defrosting under tap water in a nearby sink, about to be rolled. No one wore gloves while food prepping. Didn’t see any cleaning spray used at the counters, just brown toilet style paper towels. The same knife that slices avocados was used to slice open food packaging. $23 was the cheapest 9oz (barely) glass of white wine. The menu had old food smeared on it. I was asked to “sit tighter” to my dining neighbors at the bar to allow “other pretty ladies to join us.” The waiter was offended when the person next to me left a small tip and spoke out loud in front of other customers about it. He also dropped a wine bottle on the floor and never washed his hands after picking it up and then continued to bring out plates. It was hopping, but not slammed.

Some of the regulars said the sushi is a modicum better than the sashimi. I’ll pass next time and opt for a different layover meal. Good people watching is about all I can give a plus on. They do have to-go cups you can bring to the gate. Overall: major “meh” experience for a $50 app and one...
