I don't recommend. I've came here since I was a kid but over the last year just haven't had the chance. As a kid and as a teen coming with my family it was great. The food was great and we loved to eat outside but last year it wasn't as good. It was good but wasn't as good. We came back recently and ordered again. The food tasted like it had been sitting. Like it was old. It wasn't hot. It also wasn't really warm. It lacked flavor and was honestly kind of plain. The tacos weren't awful but my husband's plate was bare. It was just chicken, lettuce and a giant tomato slice so his was basically just a plain salad. No sour cream, no cheese, no nothing really. One of his items for the combination were forgotten. And the Pico de Gallo was the worst. I love the stuff. It's my favorite part about a Mexican restaurant but I didn't even eat it after the first bite. The onions were translucent so I know it wasn't fresh and it overall tasted like what you'd get in a plastic container from Walmart that's passed the expiration date. It was a really off taste. It was gross. Sadly for me the rice and beans were the only good thing about my food and even they tasted like I got canned dollar store beans and lacked flavor and the rice was easily like boxed rice lacking flavor. Needless to say it's over priced and was something I could've made at home with dollar store items and boxed rice and a couple other things from the store only I'd have had more flavor. My family knows Miguel from before he had his restaurant and like I said when I was younger I loved it. We all loved it but it's so sad to see how down hill...
Read moreThis place used to be my favorite. This time around, though, things were really bad. Awful service; not a smile or greeting to be found and not prompt or assertive. Food was not prepared well. Drinks were not attended to quickly or even refilled at all for some. Details below for party of 4 experience.
Drinks: after sitting for awhile (probably 5 minutes) in clear view drink orders were taken; 2 beers and 2 Waters. Several minutes passed and chips came out. Drinks arrived several minutes later. When the beers were empty nobody came to see if refills were in order. I had to finally flag our waitress down and I requested a water. She never came back around to do refills. I had to request from a different person to get a refill, which only came once for the ENTIRE service. Empty glasses so we had to share water.
Food: Two of the four entrees and the 4th person's side of beans came out together. My order came out about 5 minutes after that and it was extremely overcooked and I didn't get my side. The fourth person's entree (just 3 tacos!) came out about 5 minutes after my food. The first two were already done eating by that time.
Summary: For years I recommended this place as a gem in Charlotte, but they've lost my business after the last few experiences dining there getting worse and worse. Came for my birthday, left with a lousy meal and nobody there working seemed to care to create an atmosphere worth coming back to. Sad.
The only thing good going for them was their chips and the one beer I did manage to get was...
Read moreRecommended by a friend so we tried it but won't be going back. The outside is very off-putting. There is a shack structure running perpendicular to a 1960s brick house and a sloping blacktop unkempt driveway. There are warning signs and old ads everywhere. I felt like getting back in the car.
The staff is the best part of coming here. Fast and friendly. The menu needs to be redone. They would do better to have just a solid "best of" menu of favorite dishes since it's more of a diner, not really a restaurant.
Got a good strawberry margarita, but it went downhill after that. Everything was okay...salsa, chips...meh. We ordered off the lunch menu and each got a Chimicanga and i ordered a side of guacamole. What came out could generously be called a flauta....a single flauta. A chimichaga is supposed to be a fried burrito. The actual flauta plate at least would have had 3 rolls on it.
The guacamole was blended guacamole with no texture. The beans were pretty runny. Hubby said the beef was good but my chicken was just shredded chicken and not much of it. It really makes me wonder if they really did just stick a flauta on the plate to push us through.
It was busy but I'm not sure why. Maybe because the prices are good? It's fast food? Cheaper drinks? Why does Charlotte have such a hard time with...
