Ordered the food for delivery to give it a try. Had a substantial order so I expected to pay a price $$$ which I did. The cook of the proteins and the seasoning were good. But the gumbo was as if someone made it last minute with only water and gumbo seasoning and one shrimp. But to order a side of hush puppies and have either old ones that were refried or ones that were just sitting there is crazy. You can tell when fried food especially when it’s just corn meal how the chewiness, un-toothsome feel, and overall inside appearance is just off. Its crazy since I was recommended this place my multiple people on different occasions. Being from south GA I know it’s not gonna be the same. But hush puppies and gumbo mess ups tell a lot about the care in the kitchen. Overall I got 2 poboys, fried oysters, fried shrimp, catfish, hush puppies, red beans, red beans and rice, and mac and cheese for $148. I’m starting to think that because it was a delivery order that no real effort or quality checking was done and for this to be the one time I order food for myself and others was a shame.
Now the last comment I have was about the mac and cheese. Coagulated small amount of cheese, dried and hard noodles because it was left over and not even made. Majority of the noodles had no cheese and oil from the cheese only. Reheated for sure. No care no effort. Cannot tell me different. The gumbo and hush puppies went directly into the trash after just tasting them. The mac and cheese I opened and tossed it right away. The rating here was a 2 out of 5 or more accurately a 4 out of 10 purely because of the fact that they packaged it all great, gave napkins and utensils, and the fried oysters, shrimp, and catfish weren’t over cooked and tasted good. I honestly think that because the order was a delivery efforts around quality were not done. But I have to assume that if I came and dined in the quality would be better. Quantity of food was good and the shrimp and...
Read moreManager Matt touched my cooked fish with dirty hands! I had scheduled an order for 14 pcs of whiting to be picked up that next corresponding day (Saturday 9/25). 45 minutes before my scheduled pick up time, the restaurant called me to confirm. I informed them that I would still be coming at 2:30 to pick up the order. I got to the restaurant at 2:40 (to allow time in case the order wasn't ready). I paid and then asked was my order ready. I was informed by the cashier that they would start cooking my fish now. I asked for a manager and got Matt. I asked him why was a time scheduled if the order wasn't going to be ready. He said "I didn't take the order". I told him that there was nothing communicated to me in person or via phone that the order would be cooked after payment, nor were there any signs in the building saying such. He was very nonchalant, showed no empathy or compassion to me, a customer. I asked was there an option to leave a review about his service and he said yes. I told him I would write a review and his response was "good". His demeanor is not one of a manager. He then starts doing things behind then counter and then migrates to the kitchen. I see a larger order being prepared by him and I asked the cashier was that my order; she replied "yes". I asked for Matt to come and talk to me. I told him that it was very unsanitary & unacceptable to touch prepared food without washing his hands and that I wanted my order re-done. His response was "do you want me to wash my hands" in a very dry, sarcastic tone. I told him I don't want him anywhere near my food. I waited for a new order. I wanted to take to the owner John before posting this but was hard to know what days he was at the restaurant. I have frequented this restaurant a lot, but because of Matt and my cooked food being handled with dirty hands, especially during this pandemic, I will not be returning...
Read moreWhat can I say?. I used to live on the West side, right down the street from Po Boy's whenever it first opened. Between the pandemic and me moving; it's been a good bit since I've eaten from there. After getting my booster shot on Tuckasseege, I was ready for a Po Boy. And I was and never have been...disappointed. Today was no exception. Everything was just as I remembered it. From the Po Boy's themselves, to the mac'n cheese, to the dirty rice and the gumbo soup. They were absolutely fantastic. Don't forget to get some Po Boy's sauce. Believe the hype, cause it's all true. Contrary to what some of the signs read. You can go in and order yourselves. It's best to do it beforehand; even if it's from the parking lot. The time is not going to speed up. Everything's made to order. And it's well worth the money and the 15 odd minutes that you might have to wait. A fair number of people waited, both inside and out. There was even someone eating inside. There were a number of picnic tables spread apart if you wanted to eat there. The interior of the restaurant and restrooms were all in pristine shape. All of the staff members were extremely courteous and friendly. The whole environment had a really nice vibe and atmosphere. Everything was handicap accessible and chairs for waiting for your order were spread appropriately apart. Enjoy yourselves.
